Chapter 20: Date?

I couldn't answer him. I felt like crying and breaking down in front of him.

"Nice earrings. I can see you are wearing the necklace I gave you. They matched and complemented each other." he smiled at me looking pleased.

Still, I couldn't react. The news she dropped was too much for me to handle. I wasn't ready for that.

"Summer?"

"—Hmm? What is it?"

"I said you look beautiful." He has a big smile on his face. "Did you dress up because of our dinner?" he continued.

I cannot tell him that I dressed up like this because of him. If he was taken it means I don't have a chance at all. Why will I give myself false hope?

"No, I'm actually seeing Joey after dinner." I secretly typed a message to James, "SOS. Msg me asap!."

His phone beeped and he took his phone and read the message, he frowned after reading it. 'It's probably from his devil girlfriend.'

"So, what do you want to eat?" he asked.

"I'm okay, I'll just have juice, I'm eating with Joey later." I forced a smile on my face.

He looked pissed off. However, he ordered steak and grape juice for both of us and salted caramel ice cream for dessert.

"I'm not hungry yet." I protested.

"I won't let you leave until you finish your food!" he argued firmly.

I took my phone and messaged James again. "Pls I'll explain l8r. Just send me a msg."

Liam's phone beeped again, he read it and smirked. "Wait here, I'll be back."

I waited there and this time I sent a message to Liza, "Liz txt me. Come home ASAP."

Liam came back and our food arrived. My phone beeped. I smiled, I'm saved. I took my phone and opened it. As expected, Liza texted me with the message I told her to say. Of course, I deleted my text message to her.

"I'm sorry, I have to go home. Liza sent me a message it's urgent." I stood up and I walked a few steps, he held my hand and I stopped walking.

"I'm not buying it. Do you really want to see that Joey at this time? Should we ask your parents first?"

My heart nearly stopped beating. He stood up and led me back to my chair. "My mum is in your house right now, telling your parents that I took you out for a date. They are expecting me to send you home. Can we just have dinner without mentioning Joey? Please?" He whispered in my ear.

I sat there and I ate quietly. It's really awkward between us. As if there's a big iceberg between us.

"Are you with Joey now?" He asked while he eats. "Aren't you still young to have a boyfriend?"

"I thought you don't talk much." I laughed with a fake laugh.

"How's Angel?"

He looked at me, "She's okay. Kind and thoughtful."

"She's pretty hmm… and she's tall. Nice body too." I complimented her.

"Yeah," he agreed and continued with his food.

We finished our food and dessert. He called for a taxi and we waited outside. "You asked me if I like y—"

I cut him off. I don't want to hear his answer, I don't want to hear his rejection. If I do, I might really cry in front of him. "I was just messing with you. Don't take it seriously."

"Can we talk about the k—"

"Taxis here. We should hurry home." I interrupted him.

We got on and he spoke again. "Summer, I really want to talk about it."

"It was already given. You had mine and I had yours. It's okay. I'm not gonna tell anyone if that is what you're worried about."

"It's not that. I want to—"

"No need to apologise. It's okay. I'm okay with it."

"Please, Summer, hear me out."

"Liam, please. I don't want to talk about it anymore." I timidly smiled at him.

Shortly, we arrived home. When we got into the house, I told my parents I don't feel good and I want to rest. I went upstairs quickly.

As I shut my bedroom door, I leaned on it and cried quietly. Liza rushed to me. "What happened? Why are you like this?"

She tried to comfort me. "Liza, Liam… Liam has a girlfriend already." I continued to sob.

"Shh… it's okay. That's okay." She hugged me and patted my back like a child.

The next day my eyes were puffed. Lucky it's sunny. I wore my sunglasses when Liza and I went out for a walk. We passed the field, we saw Liam and his friends playing footy, I didn't stop to cheer for him this time.

Liam followed us. "Can we talk?"

He was sweaty and looked so— 'HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND!!!' I told myself. I ignored him and continued to walk.
