Chapter 5: Chapter Five
It's been four weeks since kids at ages 7 and up started showing up at the camp and it's been five years and four weeks since the last attack from the armored people is what we decided to call them. I was sitting under a tree making a stone sculpture with a blade for someone when I heard footsteps "Josh should I eat this bread or this bread?" Mike asked walking up to me. "Mike both of them are the same why are you asking?" I replied. "They're not the same one of them is 2 days old and the other is 1 day old so which one?" he asked again. I sighed and looked at him "The one that's one day old." I replied. "Jo!Jo!" I turned around to see a familiar little girl, with a smile spread across her face. She made me smile "Hey Lanea!" I shouted, I promised Lanea I'd find her brother with her when we escape, which I hope we have an escape plan soon.
"Listen up!" I looked up to see the new leader for the camp ever since Mr. Hunter left. "An attack from the armored people is expected to happen, for two scouts spotted airships headed our way, so be prepared." he shouted. "Well then we should evacuate!" I shouted back as I started walking towards him. "Stand down Irregular this isn't your fight." he replied calmly. "Isn't my fight!?! My life is the one in danger not yours! So I'm pretty sure this is very much my fight!" I shouted as I clenched my fists. "You're doing this to protect us." he said. "Protect who the standards who live normal lives and sit in their houses surrounded by a wall where they're safe while we're out here being killed!!!!" I replied. "Josh calm down." Mike said putting his hand on my shoulder. I jerked away "No, if we're about to be attacked and die I think it's best for Standards to know how we feel for a change!" I shouted. "Your eyes they're red you need to calm down." he stated calmly walking up to me. "Please calm down Jojo." Lanea said as she grabbed my hand. I sighed "Fine." I picked up Lanea and walked towards our cabin with anger flowing through me.
"Here Lanea I made this for you." I said as I handed her the stone sculpture I made. "What is it?" she asked, I smirked "I admit I'm not the best at sculpting but it's supposed to be a bird." she twirled the sculpture around in her hands to get a good look at it "I see it, it does look like a bird." she shouted happily. I nodded "I guess I do have skills." I said. "No you're just lucky." she replied with a laugh. "Ha. Ha." I picked her up and gave her a hug. Lanea reminds me so much of my little sister Lizbeth and it makes me so happy to have someone like her around, it makes me feel like part of Lizbeth is with me somehow. "Jojo?, You ok?" she asked, I nodded and started crying a little bit. I felt her hand rub my back, "I'm sorry you just remind me of my little sister." I mumbled. "That's ok you remind me of my big brother John." she replied. "I do?" I asked. She nodded in response "You're strong, brave and nice like him, I look up to you just like I look up to my brother." I patted her on the head "I promise we'll find your brother." I said.
"We're back!" Nora shouted when she walked in the cabin with sticks in her hands along with 3 smaller kids behind her. "Hey Nora, Ryan, Lucas, and Aaron." I said. The other 3 kids that were in our cabin were terrified but I told them I'd protect them and now they see me, Mike, Keith and Nora as their older siblings. I guess you could say we're all like a family. "Oh no guys, Josh zoned out again." Keith said as he walked in with sticks in his hands as well. "Shut up." I mumbled, I stood up and headed towards the door "Where are you going?" Nora asked with a worried tone in her voice. "Relax I'm just going for a walk I'll be back." I replied. "Yeah Nora relax we all know you love him but he's a big boy he can handle himself." Keith said with a smirk. Nora blushed and looked away from me "It's not like that…" she mumbled. "Bye guys." I walked out the cabin without a second thought and made my way down a trail.
As I walked, I thought of all the things I've been through. I told my sister I would come back and see them. But I never could, and never will because she's dead. And it's the Society's fault. I'm gonna find out why they're experimenting on Irregulars and then I remembered. Next Target for experiment - Josh Kent I was getting so worked up I didn't think about it, I didn't even tell Nora, Mike, or Keith. I heard a loud sound above me and looked up to see an airship. "They're coming." I mumbled. I started sprinting back to the cabin as fast as I could. We need to get away from here, far away, I'm not about to let anyone else die on my watch. I burst through the door "We gotta go now!" I shouted. Everyone looked at me with confused expressions. "They're coming!" at that comment Nora, Mike, and Keith got up off the floor and guided Ryan, Lucas, and Aaron out the cabin. "Come on Lanea we gotta go!" I shouted as I picked her up and walked out the door. We were running from cabin to cabin telling the other Irregulars the armored people were coming when we heard a huge explosion. "They're here." Nora mumbled. "It's been 5 years why are they attacking now?" Keith asked. "That doesn't matter right now what matters is we all need to get away from here!" Mike shouted. "Mike's right let's go!" I added.
We reached the woods when I noticed three of us were missing "Wait where are Ryan, Lucas and Aaron!?" I asked. Nora, Mike, and Keith looked around with worried expressions "Look they're over there!" Lanea shouted. I looked to where she was pointing and saw the 3 of them running with terrified expressions. "Come on guys you can make it!" Nora shouted signaling them to run faster. Two huge armored people jumped down from an airship and started making their way towards Ryan, Lucas, and Aaron. "Crap!" I gave Lanea to Keith and ran towards them getting ready to use my power, when I heard something hit the ground next to me, leaving a stinging feeling in my right arm, but I ignored it, my only goal right now was getting these kids to safety.
The two armored people attempted to grab Ryan and that's when I took action, I opened my mouth and a surge of heat hit one of them right in the face causing the head to fly off. There were wires sticking out of the place where the head used to be, and sparks of electricity were flying out "They're, robots?" I mumbled in confusement. This whole time, we were being attacked by robots? And then I saw it the Society symbol on the back of the robots neck, we're being attacked by The Society. "Josh!" Mike shouted, snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked to see the other robot I took out charging at me, I tried to move but my body wouldn't respond. I closed my eyes and prepared for impact, but it never came, I opened my eyes to see a shield around me.
"Keith has blue flames, Nora has sharpshooting skills, Josh got a explosive scream, and I GOT A FORCEFIELD!!" I heard Mike shout, not paying attention to the robot that is charging at him. "Yo Mike lookout bro!" Keith shouted, but it was to late, the robot tackled Mike and he was now fighting for his life. The Forcefield around me started to disappear, so I got ready to take it out. The robot swung at me, and I dodged, jumping into the air, and coming down as I punched it right in the head. I grabbed the 3 boys and ran back to Keith and Nora "Take them, and Lanea , while I help out Mike!" I shouted, running over to Mike who was struggling. I was about five feet away when Mike put a forcefield around the robot and made it shrink crushing the robot inside "Aye not to shabby!" he shouted proudly. "Lanea! Don't!" I turned around and saw Lanea running somewhere, and then 5 robots landed around her, "Lanea! No!" I got ready to blast them with my power. But then.......
