Chapter 3: Time Traveling System
"What the hell just happened?" Jerry opened his eyes to find himself in bed, with his blanket draped over him. A series of text appeared in his mind.
[Installation Complete]
[Welcome to the Time Traveling System!]
[Analyzing speech patterns... ]
[Speech patterns analyzed. Personality selected to improve comprehension. Reginald selected.]
"Greetings master, You might be a little confused on who I am. Just call me Reginald. You'll find out more someday in the far future. All you need to know is that yes, this voice talking inside your head is real. And I'll help you out with any questions or concerns about using the Time Traveling System."
"...Oh..kay.."
"Let me go a little more in depth about the program first. You've been the one chosen to obtain the Time Traveling System. The system offers quests based on real life events. Completing those quests will give you points and rewards. Points will allow you to buy items from the store and also upgrade the system. Other rewards will be based around your interests and your goals. Ultimately, the system will allow you to reach the pinnacle."
Jerry had a pretty good idea of what was going on now… He had read a bit on systems in chinese light novels. If this system was like it described, thing just got very interesting…
"Why me? Why was I chosen to have the system?" Jerry asked Reginald using their mental connection.
"That's classified information. Knowledge is not just for anyone. You have to be strong enough first, otherwise that knowledge will end up killing you instead."
"Okay… what about the time traveling part?"
"Along with objectives and quests, you'll be given a set time and day. When the time and day arrives, you'll be transferred to a certain location in the past. You'll be asked to complete a mission. Once you complete the mission, or time runs out, you'll be transported back to the present."
"So I'm able to do anything in the past as long as I complete the mission?"
"Yep. It's your own separate timeline. Whatever you do in it will not have any effect on our timeline."
"Wait that's awesome! Hehehe."
"I'm glad you're excited. Let's have a good cooperation!"
"Agreed!"
"So to start out with, what is your goal?"
"My goal?"
"Yes, to fully take advantage of the system store, you have to select a goal of some sorts. Your own approach to reaching the pinnacle. For example, if someone chose the peak of swordsmanship as their aim, the store would generate sword technique manuals and swords, things that would assist in growing the user's strength but in their own methodology. This tailoring of strength will encourage the user to follow their own path and nurture the passions that they've chosen. Have you thought of a passion you'd like to pursue?"
Jerry's lips curled upwards. " Well…. There is one thing."
"What is it?"
"I want to tie up girls. Oh yeah, and I like art too. Something along those lines."
"Wtf?!?"
"Are you judging me? Aren't you supposed to be an AI?"
"O-Of course I'm an AI! But… is that really what you want to do?"
"Absolutely."
"You're not going to reconsider this at all? After you make your decision, there's no going back."
Jerry sighed. He looked out of his window, and into the sky. "You're just an AI… you wouldn't understand."
He paused for a second before continuing, "This was my deepest regret for the longest time: not being able to truly be myself. I spent so long trying to hide this part of me, in order to fit in with what society deems proper. Now that I have an opportunity to change that, to be my true self. I owe it to myself to do what is right for me. Maybe if I opened up earlier, I wouldn't have lost my two best friends."
Reginald was silent. He knew at that moment that there was no amount of convincing that would shake his master's resolve. His impression of the master silently improved.
"Very well. Let's begin."
[A new item has appeared in your inventory]
"Open your inventory"
"How do I do that?"
"Focus in your mind and think 'Open Interface'. A menu will pop up in front of you. Go to the 'inventory' tab and imagine the item being pulled out of the inventory or just grab it with your hands."
Jerry easily opened the inventory and found a light blue stone there.
[Stone of Desires: Absorbs the true desires of whomever first touches it. One time use.]
He grabbed it out of the inventory interface in front of him and found it materializing in his hand. He felt a slight suction force coming from the rock. Within a few moments, the light blue stone turned a deep, pure, pure bright red.
Reginald was inwardly shocked. The deeper the color, the higher the potential is with his desires! The color red correlates with romance which is a rare sight within the ranks of those with high potentials. This level of brightness also means that he is extremely compatible with his goal!
"Alright it's done. Place it back in your inventory and I will send it to the system. That way, your true desires will be able to be communicated accurately with the system without the hassle of finding the right words or whatnot."
Jerry did as he was told. A few moments later, he got a notification in his mind.
[Congratulations! Your style of choice has been accurately synced up with the system.]
[The shop is now open!]
[You are now eligible to take on missions!]
Jerry was curious about what was unlocked for him in the store. He opened up the interface and tapped on the newly created shop tab.
His eyes lit up.
[Smoke Hogtie Grenade (20): A smoke grenade that also hogties and gags the target.]
[Strong Duct Tape (25): A roll of duct tape only able to be torn by the user. It's strength is 4 times stronger than the average duct tape. Leaves no marks.]
[Restrictive Scarf (30): A 3 ft long scarf specifically created for restriction. It can support a fully grown rhinoceros's weight without stretching or tearing, leaves no marks and causes no chafing. High friction to the same material.]
[Restrictive Rope (30): A 3 ft long rope specifically created for restriction. It can support a fully grown rhinoceros's weight without stretching of tearing, leaves no marks and causes no chafing. High friction to the same material.]
[Anti-Theft Handcuffs (50): A pair of handcuffs that leave no marks. It has a fake keyhole to mislead lock pickers. Fingerprint and voice activated. Activatable neurotoxin injection to relax limbs.]
[Toe-Cuffs (25): Same as the Anti-Theft Handcuffs except smaller.]
[Relations Levels Analyzer (50): (passive) Reveals friendship and trust levels. Highest is 100]
[Mortal Ballgag (100): Anyone wearing the ballgag can be knocked unconscious at will. Has a neurotoxin setting to weaken the bodies of wearers indefinitely lasting until 30 minutes after removal.]
[Hojojutsu Technique lv. 1 (100): Master level one Hojojutsu.]
[Massage Therapy Skill (100): Gains knowledge on all acupoints and beginner's level massage skills.]
[Art of Connections lv. 1 (100): Art created will connect to girls on a deeper level. Girls will trust you more as they appreciate your art.]
[Aura of the Dominator (200): (passive) (can toggle on/off) Releases a subtle aura that slowly makes anyone within its range subconsciously want to submit to the user. The effects are irreversible. The longer someone is exposed to the aura, the stronger the effects become.
Jerry couldn't help but wipe his drool after reading the descriptions for the items in the shop. So many cool items… What should I get first?
Reginald also took a look at the shop. So this is what master's strength looks like… He was still unsure whether the master was just a pervert or crazy. He had never seen a candidate with such selective talents before.
"Alright get out of my head, I'm going to have a victory jack-off. I'll look at the missions later."
"..."
There was no questioning it, his master was a shameless pervert.
Reginald groaned inwardly. He disappeared from Jerry's mind before he was forced to witness something truly indecent.
Half an hour later a satisfied Jerry left his room. There seemed to be more tissues in the wastebasket than before.
Reginald got a notification from Jerry saying he was finished with his Jerry time and returned to Jerry's consciousness. Jerry put on his shoes and his black hoodie, took his keys, and then left the house.
[Daily Task 1: Run 4 laps around the school track, do 100 pushups, 100 sit ups, and 50 burpees. Reward: 50 points. If failed to complete, make up mission will be given. Time Limit: 8 PM]
[Daily Task 2: Hit the ball in the center of the tennis racket 1000 times while hitting on the wall. Reward: 50 points. If failed to complete, make up mission will be given. Time Limit: 8 PM]
[Daily Task 3: Draw 100 near perfect circles. 0/100 Reward: 50 points. If failed to complete, make up mission will be given. Time Limit: 8 PM]
[Objective: Draw 30 variations of female elves. Ink and Colored. Reward 250 points. Time Limit 5 days.]
[Time Until Next Time Warp: 12 Days and 2 hours.]
"What kind of weird quests are these?" Jerry was confused as he read the missions.
"The system gives you those quests for a reason. Often, they're aren't aligned with your desires but instead the strings of fate." Reginald explained. "Also, if I were you, I would not want to end up completing the make-up mission."
"I guess I should get started then." Jerry got out of his car and jogged towards the track.
