Chapter 12: Fiery moon
It was night time and Nwere expected Ugomma as usual. He waited for her, his eyes darting to the door when any noise was made, even if he recognized it and knew it wasn't hers. When the hut became too small for his anxiousness he stepped out.
The moon had come out fully, it glowed, something like fire shaped around. Maybe the gods are angry, he thought. His eyes studied the moon just like he did when he was little especially during moonlight tales. His grandmother told the other kids that Nwere preferred the moon to her story. Later he appeased her with songs.
Only once had he seen the moon like this and that night a whole family was killed by the gods.
