Chapter 17: Powerful mind

Arthur frowned hearing the students around. Wizards were so dumb sometimes. They just listened to what the purebloods says, that is werewolves and vampires are beneath even mudblood.

And that despite the fact that they themselves are getting persecuted against by the same people, though on a lower scale.

After a few seconds the sorting hat said loudly "Slytherin!"

What a surprise and unfortunate fate. To be placed in Slytherin, where lays all the venomous snakes who speak the harshest words, is quite the unfortunate fate.

This time none of the students clapped, thus Elena made her way to her table under a loud silence. She may be beautiful, for Slytherins the fact she is a vampire made her beauty even more scary.

The girl was obviously disheartened as she went to sit at an empty corner of the table. She expected something like this to happen, but not on this scale. She didn't expect to be put here either.

But she kept a cold face and waited in her corner, alone, looking toward the rest of the students who still didn't get sorted, especially Arthur.

She was intrigued by him because he had never shown the usual disgust wizards had for vampires. No, he was aloof, arrogant and cold, but toward anyone, as if he believed everyone was inferior compared to him.

This was something Arthur didn't even know himself. He always thought he acted normally in front of others, but he never imagined he was so disdainful toward others, and he wouldn't discover it today.

Five minutes later, everyone had been sorted except for one blond boy, Arthur.

McGonagall looked at her list as usual but froze when she saw the name. She had forgotten about this boy due to the other two special students, Harry and Elena.

McGonagall suddenly felt uncomfortable but she still said aloud "Arthur… Grindelwald!"

As she said that, the students around the tables, as well as the professors, exploded into chatting. Be it the Slytherin, the Ravenclaw, the Hufflepuff or the Gryffindor, everyone born in the wizarding world were talking about the boy.

The thing Merlin had asked Arthur to do a couple of nights ago, was to change his name to Grindelwald and face the challenges that would come to him.

At first Arthur refused because of his family as people wouldn't take long to make the links, but Merlin had persuaded him by saying that his parents were stronger than he thought, at least according to Arthur's description of the event that happened in the Vampire castle.

That's why the following day Arthur went with his reluctant mother to change his name from Arthur Holly to Arthur Grindelwald.

The newspapers, especially the Daily Prophet, who had spread the news. Unfortunately they didn't have a picture and thus only those who knew Arthur personally, as the Weasley and Diggory family, knew what the descendant of Grindelwald looked like.

Moreover his age hadn't been given because of the lack of time to publish the edition. But now, in front of everyone, appeared the infamous Arthur Grindelwald.

It may have only been a day since the news were out, almost all wizards in magical Britain read the Daily Prophet, so everyone knew about him. His reputation could be said to be equal to Harry's.

If Harry was seen as the savior, the boy-who-lived and the next Light lord, then Arthur was seen as the next Dark Lord, the one who would plunge the world into another war.

Harry, who didn't know anything about the wizarding world, was confused about the situation. His childhood friend, Arthur Holly, suddenly had his name changed to Grindelwald, and this seemed to have brought something bad.

The day earlier, when Harry had been shopping in Diagon Alley with the half giant, Hagrid, the latter had said "Bad times are coming" while reading the newspaper.

Seeing the reaction of his fellow students, it seems Hagrid had been talking about Arthur. But it still didn't explain why.

Harry looked at his friend Ron and asked "Hey, why are you all so jumpy about him?"

Ron looked at him with wide eyes at first but then said "Ah, right, you don't know about the magical world…"

Fred, one of the Weasley twins, said "It's because of his name. A bad name." George continued "The name of a Dark wizard."

Harry looked at him in horror and asked "Is that the real name of Voldemort?!" George flinched at the mention of the name but still shook his head and said "No, it is the name of another dark wizard."

Fred said "It's a dark wizard from even before you-know-who, he acted when Dumbledore was in his prime. Back then, the only wizard capable of defeating him was Dumbledore himself, and that was a hard victory."

George finished "Grindelwald was the one who started the 2nd world war in the muggle world, but he even started the only wizard world war there ever existed."

Harry looked at Arthur and said "But that doesn't mean he is a bad person…" But Percy, another Weasley, interrupted him "He is not some distant family of Gellert Grindelwald, he is his great grandson. As for whether he is bad or not, would you trust the son of you-know-who?"

Harry shut up hearing this as he would indeed be wary of him if he existed.

But that didn't change the fact he believed Arthur was a good person. After all, he was the one who stopped the bullies.

Harry still didn't talk about his relationship with Arthur as he was afraid he would be rejected, again. Either way, it didn't really matter, did it? Harry would still go talk to Arthur when he sees him, it doesn't mean he has to tell everyone right from the beginning they are friends. He will go talk to him… probably.

Arthur ignored the annoying chatter and walked toward the sorting hat under the nervous eyes of everyone. No one wanted him in their house.

Not even the Slytherin as even though there are many descendant of dark wizards in it, their parents were loyal to Voldemort, not Grindelwald.

Even the professors were looking at Arthur nervously. After all, almost all of them had family that had been killed because of Gellert.

Dumbledore already knew the boy had the blood of his old friend in his body, but it never worried him. However, the fact the boy deliberately changed his me to his current one alerted him.

The old man decided to check on the boy's mind to see whether he had some bad intentions, and locked eyes with him.

Dumbledore was shocked the next moment. Impenetrable. Invincible. Endless. That's how the boys mental shields felt like. This made Dumbledore go on high alert, he had already predicted the boy would be a genius because of the amount of magic he would have, but for him to learn Oclumency on his own, that is another level.

Arthur sneered when he felt the headmaster try to pry open his mind shields. Arthur decided he would not let it go like that and made an attack of his own.

Arthur attacked with everything he had the old man shields. Dumbledore looked away in a hurry as he felt this force bang on his mind. The boy wouldn't have been able to see anything, but a mental duel can be painful at their level.

Arthur then looked at the rest of the teachers and as he was about to do the same to Quirrel, he realized he had arrived in front of the stool.

Arthur looked at McGonagall in the eyes but didn't do anything and simply nodded out of respect for the old woman. McGonagall felt this was strange but ignored it and put the hat on the boy's head.

Arthur suddenly heard "Interesting, you have a very powerful mind. Not enough to block me but still great. Though there's a part of your mind I can't seem to reach… strange."

Arthur replied with his mind "Where should I be?" The hat replied "Hum, you possess many qualities, but also some flaws. Where to put you…"

After a couple of second the hat cried out loud one of the four houses.
