Chapter 82: Meeting the Ghost

Ghost: "You know, there are easier ways to get into contact with me." The assassin aptly named Ghost, the same one who killed Amber, said as he held his revolver to Logan's head.

Ghost was of average built and just about an inch taller than normal for a Solitasian (Europian) man, yet had Animian (Asian) features. Currently, he was wearing simple blue overalls and a white long sleeve shirt with muck boots. And Logan just stared right at him with a deadpan look on his face as Ghost's revolver poked his nose. Currently, they were both inside Ghost humble house on a relatively unknown island called Tempest. An island that is known for its very high winds happening for 3/4ths of the year.

Logan: "One, rude." Logan said as he slowly pushed the gun back a bit. "Two, the CCTS out here is spotty at its best. Three, I made damn sure you could see me from a hundred meters out before I got here. And four, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't important."

Ghost: "Bold words from someone it bashing distance." Ghost replied as he lowered, but not dropping his gun from pointing at Logan. "And do you realized how many people come to me with that 'it's important' shite? You ain't the first, nor would you be the last."

Logan: "I'm here for information about one of the clients that hired you." Logan said as Ghost raised his gun to Logan's face again. "No, I'm not here for revenge or anything like that. I'm not petty." Logan snorted.

Ghost: "Again, you ain't the first to say that." Ghost shot back.

Logan sighed as he slowly took a set at Ghost's table, as they were both in his kitchen, and set the metal briefcase he got from Lil' Miss on the table. Ghost kept his gun trained on Logan's head all the while Logan moved. Ghost then watched as Logan opened it up and set out several photos. One of Amber in her capsule and one of Ghost as he shot her. the next few got his attention as they were of Ghost's deceased wife, him, and his daughter's face. Logan could feel the tension rise drastically as soon as he finished setting them out.

Logan: "I am not here to threaten you, Ghost." Logan said in a placating manner. "In return for the information on who paid you to kill this woman, Amber," Logan said as he pointed to Amber's photo. "I'll heal your daughter in return for that information."

Ghost: "If you're gonna lie, make sure it's a realistic one. Or even believable." Ghost spoke quietly as his finger slowly squeezed the trigger.

Logan didn't move as Ghost shot at him. To anyone else, they wouldn't be able to track the bullet; but to Logan, he could easily follow it and even catch it if it was necessary. But it wasn't as the bullet flew harmlessly past his head and into the wall behind Logan. Logan just looked at Ghost annoyed.

Logan: "Really?" Logan asked as he cleaned his ear out with his finger, mainly to stop the ringing in that ear. "Do you know how annoying it is to have your ears ringing? If I hadn't put my aura up to block the sound wave, I would be deaf in one ear."

Ghost: "I'm surprised you didn't try to dodge." Ghost spoke as he lowered his smoking gun. "Most would dodge left or right."

Logan just stared at him dead in the eyes as an uncomfortable silence descended upon them. Logan just continued to stare at Ghost as he quickly became uncomfortable and started squirming in his chair. It unnerved Ghost that a kid less than a third of his age could make him feel like this. Hell, he thought that he's killed more than the kid has met. IT would have been if it wasn't for that look Logan had in his eyes that told Ghost a different story.

To Ghost, Logan had a look in his eyes that he wasn't as innocent as he first thought. Ghost knew that look very well, the look of death didn't bother him anymore. Ghost didn't pry as to why Logan, a kid in his eyes, had that look. Finally, after a few minutes, Ghost spoke.

Ghost: "*Sigh* Fine, fine." Ghost said as he let a deep sigh out. "Let's get down to the nitty-gritty of what you're here for."

Logan: "Finally." Logan mumbled as he sat a little straighter. "Now, as I said before, in return for the information on the client that hired you, I will heal your daughter."

Ghost: "Kid, you have to understand. I've had the best doctors of Atlas try and fail to save her from when I still worked for them." Ghost spoke with mirth. "What can you do that they can't?"

Logan: "My semblance is very unique." Logan said as he held his hand up and ignited it in golden flames. "My semblance is called Phoenix Fire. I don't think I need to explain why I call it that." Logan finished as the golden flames in his hand started changing colors.

Ghost: "You don't." Ghost said as he rolled his eyes. "I can pretty much guess what it can do from the name alone. Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if you had a resurrection ability. Though, I imagine that the cost is dangerously high." Ghost concluded as he stared at Logan.

Logan: "You're not wrong." Logan said while sighing, hiding the truth about resurrection ability. "So, do we have a deal?"

Ghost: "Again kid, I'm not an idiot. I know some people sent you to find me who are rather important, and they probably want me dead too." Ghost replied as he could tell that Logan was sent to find him. "Who sent you and why is this important?"

Logan: "This is gonna be a nightmare later." Logan mumbled to himself. "I was sent by Ozpin as Amber was part of a ten-person group that was sent into the Grimmlands to hopefully scout out the terrain and Grimm habitats. Amber was one of the leading members and the only survivor." Logan said as he told Ghost the cover story. "Amber was the only survivor that made it back from the Grimmlands relatively unharmed. Yet, the reason why she was in that capsule was due to, what we believe, was a Grimm that has yet to be discovered or recorded."

Ghost: "I still can't see why she was so heavily guarded though." Ghost pointed out. "With all that was guarding her, I doubt even an Atlas Specialist could get two steps in."

Logan: "... The reason why... is due to the fact that her soul, was damaged." Logan said, acting like he shouldn't be talking about it. "Whatever it was that attacked her, damaged her soul enough to where even my semblance wasn't able to heal her. And with her damaged soul, Grimm were attracted to her like flies are to honey."

Ghost: "That still doesn't explain why she was so heavily guarded." Ghost pointed out.

Logan: "I'll be honest with you, I'm not even sure why she was so heavily guarded." Logan lied straight through his teeth. "I was brought into the fold after my semblance became big enough to get the notice of Vale's Council. Even with my current abilities now combined with my experience and Hunter rank, I still have no clue about what goes on behind certain things. This is one of them."

Ghost: "What's your take on it?" Ghost asked. "From what you're saying, rather what you're implying, you have an idea of what's going on." Ghost pointed out.

Logan: "This is just speculation, nothing more or less." Logan said. "But, from what I can tell, someone wants certain information from going public. My best guess is that Atlas was close to being able to retrieve Amber's memories and whoever it is wanted her dead before they could." Logan half guessed and mostly lied with a straight face.

Ghost just sighed as he heard Logan's lie, not that he could tell Logan was lying. He took a minute to process what Logan told him and to figure out how to go from there. After mentally debating the pros and cons of what Logan told him, Ghost spoke up.

Ghost: "I feel like I shouldn't have asked." Ghost said as he sighed and rubbed his temples. "Okay, for one thing, I can't just give you the details of my client. If you found me this easily, they could too if they ever find out. And I do not want to endanger my daughter any more than I already do by being an assassin. Two, even if I did, I need a way to run and hide. Once the underground finds out an assassin gave out client details, they get hunted down for fear of the assassin doing the same to them. Covering their a$$es and all."

Logan: "I see, you basically want you and your daughter to disappear before you give me the information." Logan concluded. "I understand. I can work something out with Ozpin for that easily. Though he might make me do a few things for it." Logan said as he shrugged. "Anything else?"

Ghost: "Other than finding transport for me and my daughter as well as faking our deaths, nothing comes to mind." Ghost replied.

Logan: "Okay then, I'll be right back. I just gotta make some calls." Logan said as he stood and walked to a corner of the kitchen and called Ozpin.

As Logan walked off to call Ozpin, Ghost waited until he got off from the call. Ghost didn't trust Logan enough to not be wary of him, after all, Logan could be just another assassin after his life. It wouldn't be unusual for an assassin to off another assassin. And with the number of assassinations he's done in his very long career, Ghost wouldn't be surprised if Logan was an assassin too.

Logan came back from calling Ozpin with good news for Ghost. Ozpin was willing to forge Ghost and his daughter's identities as Vale citizens as long as he agreed to live there. Ghost didn't mind as long as he and his daughter were safe. Logan and Ghost then shook hands sealing the deal between them and then left to go pack all that he would need while showing Logan to his daughter's room.

Once Logan was inside his daughter's room, what greeted him was a small-ish room with several different pieces of medical equipment hooked up to a girl about 13 years old. She had long, deep brown hair, a small and sharp face with a pointed nose. She was wearing a long, heavy nightgown and was covered by a blanket. She seemed to be peacefully asleep, but with a glance, Logan could tell she was in a medically induced coma.

From the look of things, she was in no current danger but she wasn't gonna wake up anytime soon. From what Lil' Miss could find, Ghost's daughter suffered from a disease that slowly weakened her immune system until her death. Ghost did his best to slow down the disease the best he could with what he could buy and learn on his own. Hell, from what Logan could tell, Ghost himself passed even the best of Atlas's brightest doctors as the disease his daughter had would usually kill those infected by it in a year. His daughter has already lasted for more than three years already with what he cobbled together.

Logan then checked over her condition as he slowly lit his hand in blue flames. Logan was shocked as he let his flames coat her skin. She was balancing between life and death long before Logan had got there and could have died at any minute while he and Ghost were talking. After a while of letting his flames lick at her, Ghost entered the room with two duffle bags filled, and if the sound that came from them when he dropped them was anything to go by. One was filled with clothes and the other sounded like it was filled with metal, most likely it was filled with his arms and ammo.

Logan and Ghost talked a bit while Logan continued to use his flames on her. Even with the cleansing power of his blue flames had difficultly destroying the disease that plagued her. Finally, after an hour of letting his blue flames clean her, Ghost's daughter started to stir. She awoke not long after and was greeted by the sight of her father crying. Ghost wanted to hug her but Logan intervened and stopped him as she was still very, very weak.

Logan figured the reason why it took so long for his flames to get rid of her disease was due to it being in her system so long. Even if he used his golden flames to heal her, it wouldn't undo the years of muscle atrophy she has throughout her entire body. Logan ended up telling him that she'll need months, if not years of therapy to be able to function properly. Once he was done with his spiel to Ghost, Logan left the two of them alone so that they could catch up.
