Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Runes class
With the time turner in his had Edwin put it around his neck and hid it under his robes, Edwin took out one of the wedding invitations and handed it to Professor Snape before leaving for his first class, Edwin first class.
Edwin was tempted to use the time-turner to see how it would work but he waited until he actually had to use the time-turner as he could only stay 3 hours in the past the first subject that Edwin had was Arithmancy which uses the magic of numbers to predict things with would be the same as Divination but with numbers.
Hermione who was also taking Arithmancy sat in front of the class Edwin who saw her went to the front and sat near her throughout the class they did not speak but just focus on what was being taught.
As Edwin was walking to the next class he saw the twin in the corridor he knew that they were up to something as it was the first official school day so they might be looking for a target for a prank " Fred, George " Edwin called out "
" Edwin," George said
" What can we do for you " Fred added
Edwin told the twin about the wedding and give them an invitation they both agreed to go with Edwin if their mother wasn't still upset with them, before Edwin could walk forward he was the twin had a smile on their face he stepped back and deiced to talk some more with them.
Hermione who had the same classes with Edwin walked was headed to runes class when she saw the twin and Edwin she stopped and said " Don't you have classes to go to "
" Of course we have classes " Fred replied with a smile
" But we're not going " George added
" It's the first day and you two are already skipping " Hermione hissed " What about you Edwin are you also skipping "
Edwin was surprised that Hermione called him out about being in the corridor " guess she isn't mad " Edwin taught remember it was his fault that she was a main target for Tom " Nah I have Runes now "
" Well Runes classes are about to start we should get going, " Hermione said and walked forward " Fred, George go to your class "
" Okay " the twin replied and started to walk back Hermione took another step and there was a color explosion under from the floor and the ceiling the twin had rigged the corridor to turn the next person who walked through into a Blue person.
" FRED, GEORGE !" Hermione screamed
" Welcome back Hermione " The twins shout and went their way " oh and by the way the color will change every hour and it won't come off till tomorrow " Fed shout at Hermione from a good distance away.
" New product ?" Edwin shout
" Yeah mum didn't find it " George replied
" time for class, I wouldn't do that if I were you when it comes down to pranks the twin are serious so a color-changing charm won't help, " Edwin said trying to warn Hermione but she Didn't listen and used a color chaining charm on her clothes but it turned from blue to purple.
Hermione and Edwin walked to the Runes class when they entered the class was about to start and everyone's attention was drawn to Hermione who had on purple clothes and her skin and hair was light blue there were a few giggles from the girls in the class.
" Take your seats... My name is Bathsheda Babbling and I will be teaching you about Ancient runes and some common runes used today "
Bathsheda Babbling was an average height woman that was fair skin she has brown hair and eye Bathsheda looked as she was getting on in age as she had some wrinkles on her face that could vanish with a simple potion and no one would know it was ever there.
" Runes was a form writing and casting protection in Ancient times but was outdated as time moved on it was replaced by charms and the normal mean of writing but there are people out there that still use runes you may find them in newspaper or old texts even the ministry still uses runes "
Edwin who had listen to the introduction of runes put his hands in the air and said " Excuse me Professor Bathsheda I have a question "
" We haven't started and someone already has a question... what a wonderful class, " Professor Bathsheda said " What are you question Dear "
" why are Runes outdated in the area of enchantment," Edwin asked
" ah, good question " Bathsheba said with a smile " I was hoping someone would ask that... you would normally learn about that in History of magic but I'm glad you asked you see crafting and engraving runes take time and a lot of energy but if you used Charms to enchant an object it takes less time and efforts and could offer more enchantment than runes "
" Take the Sorting Hat, for example, you couldn't achieve something like that with runes as charms could give a sort of life while runes are instructions and commands, I have to admit runes fall short in some areas that charms can excel in "
" So what you're saying Professor is that Runes are a set of instruction and commands they have no freedom? " Edwin asked
" Yes right on the mark " Professor Bathsheba with an upbeat voice
When Professor Bathsheba said that a smile grew on Edwin's face he had just gotten a brilliant idea
" Can anyone else tell me a reason why Runes might be outdated in enchantment ?" Professor Bathsheba asked
Hermione was the first to put up her hands followed by a Ravenclaw girl, Professor Bathsheba pointed at Hermione since she was the first person to raise her hand " it requires a lot of runes to enchant something "
Professor Bathsheba Point to the Ravenclaw girl and asked her what her name is " it's Padma Patil and there are lots of Runes with the same or different meaning as some people may use the same symbol for a rune "
" that's right also we have a spell that can help decode runes, " Professor Bathsheba said " anyone else "
Susan Bones put her hands up and said " it might be difficult to enchant on metal or small objects "
" It seems we have a great class this year, " Professor Bathsheba said and asked everyone to say their names and the class continue.
