Chapter 1: Prologue
Run, hide, scream… these are the things a normal person would do when confronted by a 10-foot raging beast from another planet, so, when Bradley ran towards it everyone was shocked, or they would have been if they weren't running, hiding or otherwise engaged in trying not to die.
So, without witness and without hope, Bradley ran straight at the big black beast and screamed his loudest war cry, which, considering he was a 20-year-old introverted geek who hadn't had to shout for at least a year, would have sounded pitiful if there was anyone alive to hear it. And so, it came as no surprise when the beast simply swatted him aside like an errant fly, straight through a shop window where he came to rest between a lovely pair of pink laced knickers and a dead shopworker.
Picking himself back up with a groan and no shortage of curses, he slowly lumbered back towards the street where the beast still stood, though there was now something strange about it, it stood stock still and raised its head sniffing the air. Just as Brad reached the window and was attempting to climb back outside there was a flash, a bang and a force that slammed into him like a train and hurled him back again.
He lay there deaf, blind and numb until the pain started, a searing, burning pain, which he knew was nothing to do with the blast he had taken, it felt like someone had just poured molten lava onto him, he could feel it going deeper, burning throughout his body, though he couldn't see or hear, he could still feel and as he writhed and clutched his chest he felt a warm sticky substance, then his agony doubled and any thoughts he had were gone in a maelstrom of white hot pain and disturbing visions until he could take it no more and the inky blackness of unconsciousness took him.
