Chapter 3: The Hermit Doctor
"Mom!" Yi Ling yelled as she entered in their courtyard. Bringing the laundry with her.
"I'm in the back!" Yi Feng answered.
Yi Ling saw her mother helping out an old woman get up.
"You are all set, This is the prescription that I got for you. Boil all the herbs and drink it. Do this 3 times a day for 1 week." Yi Feng handed the paper to the old woman.
"Thank you doctor. Here are the fees." The old woman handed 10 silver coins. She never felt this relaxed for over 10 years. She was so happy. She left after nodding at Yi Ling as she came in.
Yi Feng was called the Hermit Doctor. She lives in a remote mountain behind the small town called Rock Valley.
Most people that lived here are normal people, but some are cultivators. Qi cultivators are treated as Gods in this valley. They are stronger than regular people. Although this valley only consists of 10 Qi cultivators, they were only at the starting rank. The valley was lacking spiritual energy, so they weren't able to breakthrough.
Due to this circumstance, not a lot of cultivators stay in this valley. They only have the Hermit Doctor to help them in times of need. The town folks wanted Yi Feng to moved into town, But she refused. She never wanted to live in a town nor a village after the accident happened. They didn't know that though. What they did know is that Yi Feng has a daughter. Some says she is very beautiful. But no one believes this rumor. For they seldom see her during treatment. Yi Feng tries to hide Yi Ling from anyone who gets interested with her. Ever since she found out some clues that lead to that massacre.
"Mom, I've seen some herbs near the river. I brought it along." Yi Ling handed the herbs to her mother.
"Ling'er, you really got good eyes. Thanks !" Yi Feng rubbed Yi Ling's head as they went inside the house.
"Oh mom! I heard there's a festival in town tonight! My birthday is almost here, can we go down there and celebrate it in advance?" Yi Ling showed her big rounded eyes to her mother, acting pitifully.
Yi Feng's brows crossed. She seldom let her daughter go down to town. Fearing that she will attract those who hunted them in the past. Its been 3 years since they've moved in the Rock Valley. The past 2 years before that was spent running and hiding in the forest. They accumulated a lot of herbs during these time, hence they were able set up her clinic.
"Hmm. Fine. I'll let you go but you must obey me at all times when we head there! Also, lets tie up your hair and change your clothes." She handed her some boy clothing.
"Must I really wear these?" Yi Ling never knew why her mother always make her dress up like a boy, whenever they head to town. Even her mother changes her look by putting some dirt and make up on her delicate face.
"Yes, you must or we will not go there!" Yi Feng was hesitant on this decision. She feels like something ain't right but she can't put her finger on it.
Yi Ling sighed and did as her mother told, but she can't help but make a face while doing it.
Yi Feng saw it. She shakes her head as she finish up placing the herbs on the cabinet.
