Chapter 11: The Gladstone Guild

When Leo woke up he couldn't help but stare at the strange markings and crystal embedded in the head of the wolf that was snoring away on the floor of his room. He wanted to say something to the wolf, but debated on whether or not he should. Should I just mind my own business? Or should I ask? He thought to himself as he stared curiously. In the end he decided against mentioning it at all.

"Why are you staring at me?" Vorbuk growled lowly as he opened his eyes and glanced up at Leo.

"Oh! Nothing!" He smiled wryly.

The wolf stretched its massive body out before standing up and glaring at him. Leo scratched the back of his head as he tried to figure out what to say. He felt awkward for having been caught staring at the strange new crystal.

"Where are we going?"

"Oh, well I figured I would go to the adventurers guild today and see if there is anything local we could do. Gotta earn money to live! This room wasn't free!" Leo smirked and went to leave the room.

"Earn money... but your a prince!" The wolf scoffed at the idea of the crown prince actually doing work. Something about the idea of him actually working a job made him want to laugh. The last thing he felt someone would think of when they thought Royal Prince would be 'hard at work'. The idea was just humor-some.

"Hey! I pay for my own adventuring like any other adventurer! Do you really see the king himself paying for me to enjoy life like this?" Leo shook his head in annoyance that even the wolf would expect him to be cooped up like a spoiled child.

"Alright, alright... Let's go then." Vorbuk did not feel like arguing over something so ridiculous so he just accepted the idea and wanted to move on.

They traveled down the street until a large building came into view. Outside the building was a sign that read Gladstone Guild. There was adventurers coming and going from the door. Some of them would glance at Leo and shake their heads as if they saw him as a joke. The image of how they treated Leo made Vorbuk slightly feel bad for his response earlier. He had reacted practically the same way so he felt some shame in it now that he saw the people doing the same thing he had.

As they entered there was a half elf women standing behind the counter. She glanced at Leo and Vorbuk before gasping slightly. The sight of the massive wolf by Leo's side was enough to shock her for a moment. She quickly regained her composure, however, and smiled sweetly. She had seen many strange things over the years of her work so she was use to pushing away any shock.

"How may I help you?" She asked as she smiled sweetly at Leo. Every now and then she would take glances at the massive wolf at his side, however, while trying to not make it obvious. The other adventurers in the guild who were chatting when they entered were also taking curious glances as well. The sight of the blond haired, blue eyed, man dressed in a way where it was obvious he was from a well off family traveling with a massive Shadow Wolf with strange fur markings and a crystal embedded in its forehead was enough to garner a load of stares and whispers from anyone who saw it.

"This is awkward.." Vorbuk sighed. His sigh was so heavily exhaled that a faint growl escaped making a few of the adventurers shudder and inch further away as if they wanted to avoid being eaten alive.

"Just deal with it... I'm use to it anyways." Leo whispered and sighed as he took a job from the board and handed it over to half elf that was waiting for him to respond. "I'd like to do this one, thanks."

"Alright, may I have your badge to verify?" She smiled nervously from the wolf's previous growl.

Leo took out his adventurer's badge and handed it to the lady so she could enter the information into his badge that he had accepted the job from the guild. She gasped slightly when she realized who he was from the badge ID nearly dropping it for a second, but cautiously kept herself calm quickly so that nobody would notice. When she was finished she handed it back and smiled as they left the building. After they left the room filled with clatter and noise again.

"Did you see that massive wolf?!"

"Was that a shadow wolf? I thought those were extinct!"

"Those markings were beautiful!"

"Not many people take a wolf as their companion because they are so weak and useless I thought, but that beast's aura felt like it could slaughter everyone in here if it enraged!"

The chatter in the Gladstone Guild filled with words towards the massive wolf that had been traveling with the well off adventurer. No one had realized other then the half elf behind the counter that the well off adventurer was the Crown Prince himself! They were all just focused on the fact that a wolf had gained a form of power that had never been seen before in it's species.

Some of them couldn't help but praise the magnificence of the beast and thought he was amazing and powerful. Though, some of them felt the beast was scary and that anyone who went up against it would be lucky to keep their life on the battle field against the beast.

The conversations were enough to make the half elf sigh in thought as she pondered over the beast that was traveling with the crown prince, Leo. There was something about the beast that she felt almost seemed elegant and as though he could see into everyone in the room. To her it was something that seemed like he had come from a fairy tale itself.

"I wonder if that's truly his companion.. How did the crown prince, Leo, acquire such a powerful companion? This moment could almost be historical for the Kingdom of Cadirade..." she whispered to herself as she thought about it. The thought of the prince gaining such a powerful beast almost felt like a sign that things for the kingdom could see a bright future, after all.

Though little did she know that the two were not even thinking of where their future could land them. They were simply walking their own path; where ever that path would lead them neither of them knew. They did not even want to know. Would it be a bright future? or would their days be something else entirely? It was not something they cared to worry about. They both had something else they wanted out of their life and that was just to go day by day enjoying what ever came their way as it was. The future was something they would figure out as it came to them neither of them wanted to decide it in that exact moment in time.
