Chapter 93: Never Change

Iemis stood with a pale faced expression as he observed the ruins of what had been his temple. It had been a beautiful place before. Now it was completely destroyed by the actions that Bredret had taken before. Sighing heavily he considered rebuilding it. It would only take the wave of his hand. Then again he felt like letting it remain demolished.

"Hmm?" He turned towards the shadows nearby to see the air rippling.

"Oh? To think someone would destroy a temple belonging to one of us gods.. but it is yours so I'm sure you don't care in the slightest since it was done by those mortals." Chynir snickered as he stepped out of the ripples and stood before him.

"Invalid." Iemis felt his personal feelings towards the temple was not important. Buildings could be rebuilt. People didn't get second chances at their life. When it came to the weight of the two he was simply happy their lives had managed to hold out through the events that had occurred.

"You never change.." Chynir glared sharply at Iemis acting as if he did not care in the least. "All these years and you still act just as you did back then."

Chynir felt a sudden heavy pressure from Iemis's aura. Instinctively releasing his own to defend himself. All the plants and trees near by were instantly flattened like pancakes into the ground. Both of them stood their ground while Chynir was the only one between the two of them that seemed to become exhausted from defending against the pressure.

"Do not try to test my patience, child." Iemis's voice was more violent then usual. "Just because I do not step forward does not mean I lack in ability. You know that very well."

"Maybe when this continent ends up the same as-" Chynir started to talk back when the pressure suddenly increased. It had been a long time since he had been scolded so harshly by Iemis. Whenever Iemis released his pressure to scold Chynir he rarely forced him to his knees. For a god to be forced to kneel was considerably humiliating. Being one of the strongest beings alive Chynir could not believe Iemis would force him to kneel down on his knees before him.

Chynir's face flushed with a disgusted sense of embarrassment as his body collapsed to its knees. Feeling utterly humiliated he could only grit his teeth together. His filthy pride would not allow his gaze to waver. Glaring sharply at each other, they both knew neither of them were willing to back down.

"Did I touch a sore topic for you?" Chynir laughed at the fact that Iemis was getting angry over the mention of it. It was laughable to him to see the eldest god so hung up over something Chynir had done so long ago that even the mortal history books rarely mentioned it. Most living mortals had already grown enough generations in their families that they weren't even aware of it. His long forgotten history.

"Invalid." Iemis released Chynir from his pressure and turned away from him. He was not interested in looking at the man when he was already causing his emotions to fluctuate in a dangerous direction.

"Truly.. the eldest among us never changes. Yet, I've come so far.. I wont yield to those pawns of yours.." Chynir stood up and turned around. "Any mortal that gets in my way will be taken care of just like last time."

With both of their backs facing each other they stood in silence. Iemis was not sure how long it was that they stood like that. It felt suffocating and made him recall the days of old. A lot of things had happened between them in those days. Chynir was the second eldest god. He was the first god that came to be right after Iemis.

"Chynir." Iemis could not stop himself from muttering out the name of the god behind him.

"What?" Chynir responded coldly. There was no warmth in his tone. No warmth in his cold heart was left for the eldest god. That was what he told himself in his head as he waited for him to speak.

Hesitating to open his mouth, Iemis closed his eyes. He did not want to control Chynir. It was simply that he wished the man would come to understand that there was more to life then he made it out to be. It was as if he over looked so much about the world around him that he warped it into something twisted to fit his own self satisfaction.

Where did I go wrong with you all those years ago? Iemis thought to himself regretfully.

"Your life is your own so you must live it how you feel the happiest in your life. If you want a good life, live a good life. That is equally true if you choose to live in other manners like you are right now.. but do not regret the consequences of whatever method of living you do." Iemis began to walk away before Chynir could respond.

A bright white light flashed before Chynir's eyes for a second. When he blinked Iemis was already gone. Glancing around to see if he was hiding somewhere in the distance keeping watch he found the area clean. The only thing left was the ruins of Iemis's temple.

Another exit without a word. He thought to himself as he was use to Iemis doing such a thing to him. Iemis was not one to bid fare well to others. When he was done talking he always tended to leave without a word. Chynir did not know how long Iemis was a gone by himself for. At the time he met him he had simply clung onto someone for entertainment since he was alone and homeless as a child. Iemis had raised him and eventually one day Chynir had become a god.

Both of them were like fire and ice. Chynir hated the humanity that had abandoned and abused him throughout his life. While Iemis loved everything about mortal life and cherished the thought of it. The purity that Chynir saw in Iemis when it came to mortality made him feel sick.

"Those filthy fragile things are nothing more then pests. When will you see that?" He thought out loud to himself as he took in the view of the destroyed temple. It was not his own temple. Yet it gave him a feeling as if his own existence had been mocked at. If it had been his own temple he would have slaughtered the mortals who acted in such a manner.

Flipping his body around in order to leave he stepped back through the portal he had opened earlier. The ripples in the air gracefully pulling him in as he stepped through.

"I have more important things to take care of then look at that fools trash." He said to himself in order to rid himself of his unease.

The moment he was gone the forest around the temple became still and quiet. Nothing was left behind but the ruins of a forgotten temple. A place that would never again be rebuilt.
