Chapter 3: 3: Apotheosis: Creating Something from Nothing

An epiphany hit me. It wouldn't be too far fetched to assume I'd been summoned here by the Prankster, as I'll call him, to serve him in some capacity. Why else would he rip a hole in the space time continuum to transport me here? Furthermore, this deity seemed to be a sissy, judging from the way he was so easily knocked out from where I was. Yet he lived in this tiny little place; presumably with his needs taken care of. If that moron could figure out how to shape reality in here, why can't I?

What would I start with? I doubted it would be so easy to just alter reality by focusing, or everyone could do it! I looked at nothing again, and remembered the Biblical Creation story. While I wasn't God with a capital, I do remember that the starting substances were Tohu and Vohu. Nothingness and chaos. I had nothing all around me, and what was chaos but two opposing things?

I reached out with my body and will, and tried to bend the border between nothing and something. It hurt! It hurt so bad! My arm started to disintegrate, and I desperately tried to stay calm and think of a better way. Don't think about the pain, don't think about the arm!

"My arm stays real!" I screamed at nothing, willing with all my being, feeling in my mind how it all needed to stay. My arm snapped back to reality, whole and unbroken. I stared in disbelief. That worked!?

Thinking about it some more, it made sense. In the Biblical creation, the Creator speaks the world into existence. Alternatively, it could be like the magic system in So You Want to be a Wizard, where the words and language spoken has

reality altering effects due to the resonance of speaking an object's or concept's true self.

The problem with this theory, though, was that I spoke in English. English, especially modern English, is a recent development, historically speaking, though it is a polyglot language. So perhaps it was spoken intent? There is a finality to a person's thoughts once verbally transmitted.

So I started talking deliberately at literally nothing. I spoke of the vast orchard before me, filled with nutritious soil, and with fruit trees forming orderly rows. There was a stream that flowed in on itself, springing from nothing and becoming nothing in the end. I spoke, and so it happened.

Reality was taking firm hold, and becoming more before me. It just was completely dark. I spoke again of a twelve hour cycle of sunshine and moonshine, shining from nothing at all, and always staying at a comfortable temperature and brightness. And there was light.

The air started to feel a little thin, so I spoke about breathable air for me filling up reality. And there was air.

I looked at my body, and once more stuck part of myself outside of reality. While my sense of self started to dissolve into nothing, I yelled and screamed about true immortality, everlasting youth, and a strong durable body. I was thinking of Clark Kent's superhuman physique. My body shifted, stretched, and compressed, and I stepped back, feeling the immense power barely restrained in my body.

I just sat there, tired out. There were other changes I wished to make, but sleep came first.
