Chapter 2: Chapter 1 : A Knights awakening

The portal shimmered silver as a brilliant red stone floated through the air. As the portal closes, the stone falls into my outstretched hand.

Brandon wakes up with a gasp, subconsciously turning off his alarm as he stares at his ceiling.

"What was that?" he murmurs to himself.

30 minutes later he's walking towards the bus stop, his board tucked under his arm. A slight breeze ruffles his messy, black hair and his light, brown eyes look down, unfocused as he steps up onto the bus and takes his seat. He stares out the window at buildings flying by, lost in thought.

What was that weird dream?

His mind drifts back to the glowing stone. He had never seen, let alone heard of anything like it. The stone was round and smooth, seemingly silky to the touch. The heart of the stone seemed to burn, like a flame trying to break out of the red and orange glass like exterior. He's jostled out of his thoughts as the bus comes to a sudden stop.

Well I guess this is where I get off.

He stoops down to grab his belongings, looking at his reflection with a smile as he stands. Thinking about the stone reminded him of something his mom always said. She always commented that his brown eyes looked more like a flame, ready to burst at any moment. His eyes turned sad at the thought of his mother who he lost years ago to cancer. He missed hearing her laugh as she ruffled his hair, causing it to look unkept and messy. That's why he wore it the way he did, as a reminder of her.

He sighs as he steps off the bus, shaking his head to get rid of the sad thoughts. He looks up as he sets his board down, suddenly freezing in his tracks.

Where am I?!

His eyes widen as he looks around. The bus has suddenly disappeared and in its place is a market. As if that wasn't weird enough it's almost as if he was transported back in time. He gapes at everything as he turns slowly, taking in the outdated, medieval clothing and horses. The buildings look like they came straight out of Dragon Heart, a story of a boy in medieval times and a dragon, dust covers everything and everyone, and children run around in the streets.

A sudden noise causes him to turn around, coming face to face with a tall, dark horse with a knight, in shining black armor, sitting on top. As he stares at the muscular horse, he hears the knight speak to him.

"Who are you?" the deep voice inquires gruffly.

Brandon stammers, searching for an answer as he tries to grasp the situation he's in.   The Knight huffs in aggravation, jumping off the horse and storming to the stammering boy.

"I said, who are you?" the knight growls fiercely.

He grabs Brandon by the arm, apparently not happy with the time it's taking him to answer. He turns to the horse, grabbing a rope as he speaks.

"No matter, the sorceress will be able to get an answer out of you." He snarls, motioning towards the large, dark, gloomy castle in the background.

Brandon looked at the castle and then at the knight. He may not know what was going on, but something told him he didn't want to go with him. As the knight is occupied with the rope, Brandon looked around frantically. He notices a dark pathway with stairs that seem to be going down below ground. Seeing no other way, he suddenly jerks his hands out of the knight's grip and runs toward the corridor.

He hears the knight yell for him to stop as people dodge out of his way, but he runs faster. He reaches the corridor and takes the stairs two at a time. He picks up the pace as he hears the knight chasing after him as he continues down the winding corridor. He lost track of how many stairs he ran down as sweat beads run down his face. He hears the knight slowly, but surely, gaining on him from behind.

Just as he thinks he's done for, he bursts into a large, circular room. His eyes widen as he looks as the lush flowers growing in the sun, looking up he notices there's no ceiling. Instead, trees grow over the opening and birds chirp.

He lowers his eyes to look at the statue in the middle of the room. A young-looking woman stands, staff in hand her. Her free hand up in front of her face, as if warning off an invisible foe as her body leans ever so slightly back. Her long hair billows out behind her, along with her long cape.

Too late he remembers the knight. He turns as the knight comes into the room. Backing up he looks around, panicking as he sees no other door. The knight smirks as he raises his sword, causing Brando to stumble back, falling against the statue. The knight swings down at Brandon as Brandon covers his body and closes his eyes, waiting for the blow. He suddenly looks up as he hears the knight fall to the ground, his sword clattering as it hits the ground in front of Brandon.

The statue that had once stood lifeless now stands in front of Brandon, protecting him. The bright opal colored gem, on top of the woman's now silver staff, glowed with a brilliant light. Her silver eyes, full of wisdom looks back at him.

"Who are you?" He gasps in shock.
