Chapter 1: Different world
The world has undergone a profound transformation; I struggle to recall its former state. In the distance, a distant scream pierces the air, mingling with the mournful wails of sirens that gradually fade away. Following this eerie silence, a symphony of gunshots ensues, leaving an unsettling quiet that digs deep into your heart, urging you to flee.
Yet, here I am, perched on the precipice of a radio tower near the French borders. "This shall be my final stand," I mutter, a soft grunt escaping my lips as I ignite a cigarette, the thick smoke lingering briefly before raindrops disperse it. In the blink of an eye, it's just me and the pervasive silence.
My hands grasp a red flare, illuminating the tower, followed by a forceful strike of a metal rod against the tower's satellite. "Come for me, you damned monsters!" I don't have to wait long; soon, the sound of claws and their primal screams reverberates as they ascend the narrow staircase towards me. I had strategically placed traps—shrapnels, spikes, trap doors—to offer them a deadly welcome. The first one ascends, confronted by the barrel of my Bloodbath. My violet eyes lock with the inhuman creature, crawling on all fours, its dark, furless skin resembling charcoal. Complex eyes, reminiscent of flying insects, allow it a wide field of vision. No lips adorn its face, only a row of sharp fangs, followed by a smaller set for chewing.
Observing the creature, I inquire, "So, after all, there's a hint of humanity left in you, huh?" As it attempts to stand on two legs, an obvious deformation becomes apparent—a ribcage protruding through its skin on the sides, forming an external skeleton before sliding back beneath its black skin in the chest's center.
The only captivating aspect of these beasts lies in their reaction to fear; their blood begins to glow, akin to a golden firefly. That is my cue. As it starts to shine, I pull the trigger, painting the walls behind it, awaiting the onslaught of the remaining pack.
