Chapter 21: Rale's Journal: Entry 1

While the battle between the vampires and the demon army was forged in the path to the great Celestial Bridge, the other nobles of the 13 demon families were forced to bunker down behind the lines of safety in the city of Illumious.

Prince Rale Gravestone was plotting against his own brother to take the crown away from him. Rale wasn't an extremely powerful warrior like Goliath, but he did have the trust of the nobles on his side.

He stood to shed light on their situation, he was about to drop a bombshell of truth on the Dukes of the royal demon families. There were 11 of them seated at a huge round table. The Demon General who was not accounted for was already on a secret mission of his own at this time.

"We are in a state of war, this emergency was caused by the King's own foolish crusade. He lead his men threw the country of Vlad for reasons that did not benefit this Kingdom one bit.

I've sworn to keep his majesty's secrets but under these circumstances his personal affairs threaten to be the downfall of the Kingdom of Flames. That is why I have gathered you all here tonight, to lift the veil of lies of our King. I will expose the true reason why we are under attack now.

50 years ago our nation had a conflict with the country of Vlad as you all know. You've been lead to believe that the horrible Vampire war was started by Vlad, that they had limited food supply due to human blood running scarce in Jigoku.

That was a lie.

What really happened is that the Vampires had found a mysterious object that held some ancient secrets. It was a key in which no one knew what was meant for or who created it. That was until the Grim Reaper Kayako Yamagaya had entered the royal castle claiming to have found something of great interest.

What was found was an especially mind boggling place, ruins of some long vanquished civilization. It seemed interesting enough, but the site became quite dull and admittedly I thought it was a waste of time on first arrival.

However, In those ruins there was a peculiar room with intricate designs carved into stone, it was a marvel to look at. Towards the back of this room was a grand design that all came together to a single spot and in the center of it was a single keyhole.

Due to the rumors of the ancient key floating about, Goliath suddenly became obsessed with getting his hands on it. I had never seen my brother in such a frightening state before, he seemed to become a completely different person.

To be honest, I wish that woman Kayako had never set foot in the kingdom of Flames.

After some time, Goliath had formed an alliance with the Hollow Forest and quickly grown smitten with the Grim Reaper. Their combined forces had infiltrated the country of Vlad after the vampires out right denied them access to the key. The skirmish had broken out into a full blown war as you may recall.

Goliath fabricated the entire story, he told his people a false tale in his speech when we went to war with them.

After countless battles while chasing down the secret of where the Vampires were hiding the key, of course, Goliath finally took it from them by force. He had made sure to slay their Vampire Lord at the time and anyone who knew about the key's existence.

This was the start of a long road however and it left a bad taste in my mouth so I opted out of learning the mystery of what it unlocked. I wanted nothing to do with it.

Goliath had entered a close relationship with lady Kayako and eventually conceived two daughters. It was his intention to have a boy that would serve as his heir, though his relationship with Kayako soon fell apart before getting to that point.

It seems the two had different opinions on what to do with the key, Kayako believed it was too dangerous for any one person to possess for some reason. She desperately wanted to destroy it, unfortunately our King was not so fond of that idea.

He wanted to keep it for himself, apparently whatever that key unlocked had driven Goliath to a deluded state of mind. He would take the key and vanish for long periods of time. The weirdest thing was that every time he came home from those trips he was stronger than he'd ever been.

Goliath managed to even become the first demon to gain his dragon form in centuries at such a young age. Whatever he was doing with the key I did not know, although it was clear that he was becoming one of the strongest demons to ever live because of it.
