Chapter 11: Part 1 : Stubborn June
This was becoming to much for her. She could imagine being lured to sign a contract with the most arrogant man on earth and still cook for him while being yelled at.
As she thought of how stupid she was to be in Adams' house , she cut herself with a knife while chopping the vegetables.
" Owwwh!" June yelled in pain. Her finger was bleeding , her blood dripped on the floor. Adam rushed out of his room at her cry.
" Is there a problem ?" He asked. June ignored him and kept blowing air unto her cut finger.
" So you can't chop vegetables safely . What can you ever do? I don't why i chose to sign this contract with you !"
" I never asked you to do so!" She replied .
" Did you say something ?" Adam asked as he took the first aid kit from the cabinet.
" I didn't say anything, infact i was talking to my finger!" June felt disgusted.
Adam moved to where she was . With a cotton wool dipped in metylated spirit, he pressed it on the bleeding finger.
" Owwwh! Be careful!"
" Just stay still !"
" I didn't ask you to help me with this , infact, i can do it myself!" June said .
"This is my house, i hate blood anywhere in my house ! So am not doing this for you... infact , Just do it yourself and make sure you clean the blood stain on the floor !" Adam said , leaving June to attend to her injury.
Adam put on the apron and began cooking. From slicing vegetables, to frying meat. June just sat by the dining and watched him cook their meal.
She felt so uncomfortable with him cooking when she was around and could cook.
" Are you sure you don't need my help !" June asked.
Adam continued cooking, ignoring June's question. June felt restless and went to the kitchen .
Just as she was about to lay her hands on the vegetables, Adam withheld her hands.
" Go back to dining !" He ordered.
" I want to help ..!" June said .
" You have helped enough ! Leave, i don't want to repeat myself!" Feeling disappointed, June left the kitchen .
Some minutes later, dinner was served.
Adam served a plate of salad and fried meat. June stared at the food, fiddling with it. She cast a glance at Adam .
When she was caught staring , she would stare back at her food .
June wasn't this stubborn as far as he could remember or was she doing this to quit the contract ? He didn't understand.
Soon, they were done eating , Adam packed the plates and was about to wash them.
" At least, I can help you wash the dishes as a thank you for this lovely meal !" June said .
" Originally, for you being a woman , i thought you can handle things here but so far, it seems that you need to undergo lessons in order to handle my things in my house !"
" Prrr! , what things?"
" What was that ?"
" You said ' my things', but i don't see any thing here . All i can see is a pair of sofa,the dining set, a plasma Tv and an Ancient vase . Seriously, for a man of such standing, you are bad when it comes to decorating your house ." June spilled out.
Adam hit the table to stop her from talking further. This was his resting place and he hadn't come here since he got married but now that his wife is not with him, he decided to lead a bachelor's life.
" Do the dishes !" Adam commanded .
" Does that mean you accept my gratitude!" June asked. Adam stare at her without saying a word as he went to his room.
"I'll take that as a yes !" She yelled .
June smiled as she washed the dishes. It seems that taunting him gives her more way in his house.
June was now done with the dishes as she goes upstairs ,into the guest room . The room was cool but painted with dull colours . The bedspread was gray and white in colour.
" He sure doesn't know how to decorate a house ! Maybe , everything is just grey and white in his life but not me ,because am filled with colours. I don't care whatever he says, tomorrow , i will decorate this room the way i want it!" She said as she entered the bathroom.
June removed her clothes and turned on the shower . She was scared of bathing in the bath tub as she was not used to it. With every water pouring down her body comes a loud humming sound.
It was so loud that it disturbed Adam's sleep. June loved humming anytime she had a bathe . Adam turned from side to side trying to get some sleep , blocking his ears but to no avail.
The noise only grew louder. Enough! he had heard enough of that destructive sound that disturbed his sleep.
He got up from his bed and went to the guest room where June was staying. He knocked at the door .
"June ! June!" he called out but there was no reply.
He turned the door handle to check if it was locked but it wasn't. He opened the door slowly to check if she was asleep but she wasn't in the bed.
Just then,he realized that she was bathing.
" June! June!" He called out again but no reply.
She kept humming and singing. He knocked at the washroom door . June heard a noise at the door and rushed to check it .She tied a towel and opened the door, It was Adam !
Immediately, she crossed her arms over her chest .
" Ahhhh! What are you doing here ?" She asked.
" Are you silly? Am trying to sleep, and you are making a hell of noise. I don't want hear this sound again". Adam warned.
"Sorry !" She said softly . Adam turned to leave .
" She actually has a good skin !" he thought to himself.
