Chapter 3: First steps in the new world

"Welcome to the Free City of Adalas. If you're not a member of the guilds, entrance will cost you 30 copper coins." The feline beast guard said.

I nodded and took out 30 coppers and handed it over. Then I asked him "Could you tell me where I can find a somewhat cheap inn?"

The guard smiled and said "Yeah, just follow the main road and you'll see an Inn with a signpost of a rabbit. It's a good cheap inn for travelers."

Thanking the guard I left and entered the city through the massive gate. Entering what looked like a medieval city I enjoyed the sight of something new. There were many people walking to and fro and all of them seemed to be some kind of beastman, dwarf or elf. I think I even saw a Demon! It was a fantastical sight. Many different stalls lining the streets selling either food or other things could be seen everywhere. Buying some kind of meat on a skewer I enjoyed the strange new taste while making my way forward. The shops, inns, and restaurants all had a wooden sign hanging over the entrance showing what you could find inside.

Just when I finished the meat skewer I saw a sign with a rabbit and a bed on it. This must be the Inn the guard told me about. It looked like the other houses around but was three stories high. Walking in through the wooden door it looked like some kind of tavern with tables throughout the place and a bar were a big man with bunny ears was cleaning some mugs.

Fuck! Why was it a bunny man? Where is the erotic bunny milf with large jugs and fluffy ears? This is not how it is supposed to be! Grumbling to myself I walked up to the bar and the man greeted me in a gruff voice "Welcome to the Resting Bunny. I'm the Innkeeper Gin. Do you want to eat and drink or are you looking for a room?"

"I'm looking for a single room and some food." I said to him.

"A single room will cost you 50 coppers a day. Breakfast and dinner are included. There is a separate bathroom you can use which will cost you 5 copper each time." He told me the rates.

Smiling I said "Then I would like to rent a room for the next seven nights. At what times is the food served?"

He took out a bronze key and said "That will be 3 silver and 50 coppers. Breakfast is from six to eight and dinner from six to ten. Just show the key to the server and they will know you already paid for food and one drink."

I gave him the money and took the key it had a room number pressed into it. "Thanks for the patronage, your room is number 205. So on the second floor. Enjoy your stay."

With that, he got back to cleaning mugs. I decided to first check out the room and then come back down for food. Ascending the wooden stairs I looked around the second floor and found the room with the number 205 on it. It was a small room. There were only a single bed and a small table with one chair. Yeah, I need to check out how to make more money fast. No way am I staying in such a small room for long.

After locking the door of my room I went back down and sat on a free table to get some food. Since it was lunchtime I would have to pay for it but I still got enough money left for the moment. I got some kind of vegetable and meat stew with a mug of beer. Both were OK but nothing to write home about. With that and the skewer I had on my way, I felt positively full so it was time to find out about work. There should be something like an adventurer guild or something right? It was a staple in these kinds of worlds.

I decided it would be easiest to just ask Gin about it and get some directions so I walked up to him and said "Hey Gin, can you tell me where I can find work around here?"

Gin smiled and said "Not from nearby, are you? The easiest way would be to join a guild and work from there. If you are able to craft there are different Crafting guilds you could join. If you are more of a fighter there is the adventurers guild. And if you want to get money quickly but at a higher risk there is the Dungeon Divers Guild."

I nodded and said "Yeah I traveled her from far away. So crafting is not something I can do but what is the difference between the adventurers guild and the dungeon divers?"

Gin laughed and said "Where did you live if you don't even know that? The adventurers guild is mainly for local quests. Like going out and do stuff for people or help guard a merchant caravan. Stuff like that. While the Dungeon Divers go into the dungeons and fight against the monsters and harvest monster cores or special materials like herbs and minerals found only in dungeons. It is lucrative but monsters in dungeons are also much stronger than the ones found outside. Especially on the lower floors."

Did he just fucking call me a hillbilly? Just you wait, old bastard! Coughing I tried not to show my irritation and said "Then can you tell me where the dungeon divers guild is? I'm not going to be someone's errand boy."

Smirking at me, as if he knew what I was thinking he said "Yeah the Dungeon Divers Guild is right at the west gate. It's the biggest building there. Can't miss it."

I thanked him for the information and made my way outside and towards the western side of the city. I took my time looking around while walking to the guild. It was a good idea to get a feel for the land and see what shops there were. It was all basic stuff like restaurants, Inns, General Stores, Weapon and Armor Shops, Alchemy stores, and Tailors, etc. The one I found the most interesting was what looked like a Slave Merchant.

Yeah, I'm going to check that one out more deeply once I have money. I need a team for myself sooner or later and having slaves seems to be a better idea then to be backstabbed for profit. Plus having a slave harem of beautiful girls at my beck and call is a mans romance after all.

Just thinking about having a beautiful busty elf serving me made my big brother react. What? I'm a man and have my needs too! And I wouldn't need to deal with bitchy women because they have to obey my orders. Hehe.
