Chapter 3: We have a problem

Lucifer Knight

New York

Knight Head Office

"We have a problem sir!" The words left his mouth the moment he closed the door of my office. Already bored with his presence.

"Yes, Malakai?" I said not overly concerned.

"Sire, as instructed I have been watching Miss. Sophia?" Now that pecked my interest. Since the 'breakup' everyone has been too afraid to say her name around me. Like the very sound of it will set me off or something. Fools.

"And?" I question, signing off on a contract months in the making.

"Well, she-" Nervousness crept into his voice. What now?

"Well? Well, what?" I say calmly putting the contract back in its folder. What can this idiot possibly be on about? Is she, seeing someone else? Already!

"Has something happened to her?" I ask, my tone colder than ice. Picturing in depth, the many different ways in which to maim and kill who every touched her.

"No, no not yet." He spoke quietly.

"Not yet?" Finally meeting his eyes on only to watch fear bleed into his features.

"When then, Malakai. Do tell?" He shivered, the fear rolling off of him was passively delicious.

"I... I was ff-ol," he stuttered. "From the beginning Malakai! I don't have all day!" I growled I don't have time for this not if she was really in danger. The fool takes a deep breath and starts again.

"I did as you order Sire. I was following Miss Sophia home from the doc...Doctors office when I noticed a tracker following her too." The temperature in the office plummeted.

"Angel?" I probe. Nodded his head, he's whole body trembling now, I could hear his erratic heartbeat, small beads of sweat began to form on his brow. My gaze harden, those asshole never quit always watching. Lurking around every corner trying to gain insight into my life.

"Anything else?" I pressed for more information. Malakai bobs his head rapidly.

"Speak then!" My voice cuts through the air like a sharpened blade. "On...once she went into the building. I..." I raised a brow, with a sigh Malakai continued.

"He left, so I followed him, I made sure to stay out of sight and once he was down the street he called, uh, he called Gabriel. I was too far away to hear everything but," Malakai was sweating a lot more now. Idiot could keep it together long enough to report on his damn job. Though the fight or flight response his having right now is normal. On a subconscious level he is completely aware that he will not leave this room alive.

"And what is it that you did managed to hear Malakai?" He flinced when I said his name. Malakai now had my full attention which is defiantly not a good thing.

"I...I heard him tell Gabriel that sh...she's the one they've been . . . looking for." He gulped as I slowly rose from my seat, buttoning my blaze.

"He also said something about 19:15 tonight and Gabriel is personally coming to collect a package." He said in a rush as I continued to take deadly slow predatory steps in his direction.

"And you believe Sophia is this package?" I questioned coming to a stop in front of him. "Yes sir!" he replied immediately.

"Thank you Malakai, you've actually been useful for a change." With a soft sigh and a thoughtful expression, I proceeded to rip his throat out.

Fresh hot blood splattered all over the door and walls along with my clothes. Dammit! Anger seeped into my blood.

"Did you have to kill him?" An amused voice sounded behind me. "Yes," I said dropping what was left off Malakai's throat on the floor.

"I have no further need of him." Turning around to find a familiar figure cloaked in darkness sitting in my chair. "Great! "

"Now, please tell me we're going to hunt Gabriel down and skin him." I could hear the smirk in his voice.

"What time is it?" I asked opening the buttons of the cuff links of my grey shirt. "18:50," He answered.

"If you planning to making a move, now would be the time." He said putting his feet up on my desk. Rolling my eyes as I removed my blazer and tossed it on a nearby couch. Stepping forward I pressed a button on the phone.

"Sir?" Immediately a soft feminine voice answered. "Have my car brought around."

"You're taking the car?" He stated the obvious but I shook my head.

"No, you're taking the car." I said point at the door. Dee rolled his otherworldly emerald green eyes before vanishing into thin air.

Stepping into the private elevator hidden behind a false wall, I made my way to the rooftop. The doors opened to a red sky and the sun was just about to leave for the evening.

Rolling my shoulders back and unveiling my powerful black wings, I waited for the sun to fully set and for my shadows to come out and play. Before I took off into the night...

To find out the hell Heavens Healer wanted with my woman.
