Chapter 2: Denial ~ 2

CHAPTER TWO

Confused, I rubbed my head... This must all be a bad dream? I thought...

I waddled slowly to a bench outside of a closed fish - and - chip shop and sat down with a slump.

It was pitch black and the only light I had to guide me around was an oddly placed street lamp, flickering above me.

My stomach growled.

I had obviously slept on the beach all day and haven't eaten. I searched around me to see if any more shops were open, none.

The closest thing to food was a set of four slush puppy machines all under a wooden bus stop - like shelter, they had been left on with spare cups at the side. I grabbed a large cup and pulled the machine handle.

The cold, icy beverage was fruity and bright blue.

I gulped it down, I didn't realise until then how dry my throat was and how burnt I really was.

The pain of my burns, as a slither of slush puppie trailed down my stomach, showed me that this can't be a dream.

I decided to start thinking like a rational person in this situation. The man must've had earplugs in, I told myself to help me feel reassured. I needed to find a local resident.

Painfully, I turned my head, rubbing my burns, to the left to see if there were any houses along the winding highstreet. I scanned along the long line of shops and buildings, nothing but closed shops and empty windows.

Although, there was a turning further up, leading down through what looked like a quaint little village. It was quite a walk but I needed to find someone to help me. So, I began walking.

The path was very dimly lit with only few jittery lamp posts to help me see where I was going.

It seemed to go on forever, past all the closed kebab shops and souvenir sellers, my burnt thighs rubbed together making me feel sore and achy.

I followed the side walk with my weary eyes as I stumbled towards some buildings, which looked like a hotel. Many of the lights where off but a few of the rooms on level 2 were bright and full of life.

I waltzed inside of the hotel and walked to door leading to the stairs, you needed a key card.

All of the employees had gone home for the night and so there was no way I was ever going to make it up to level 2. I'd have to keep walking.

As I stepped back outside the air seemed thinner and cooler than it was before and it was a beautiful night, all the stars were out and the moon glistened perfectly over the horizon. It was only then when I really took in all the beauty and excitement of the night sky.

But my train of thought and wonder was crashed into by something distracting my nose.

It was a clean, crisp smell, like that of an old baker lady's kitchen. I swivelled around on the spot. Then I saw it.

A light!

It was a small, quaint little cottage house with a warm, inviting glow of light leaking through all the gaps it could squeeze into.

I ran over.
