Chapter 3: THE FALLEN

Chapter III

"Orionne, I can't help but notice how well you seem to know Ameriel. You speak as if you both grew up together."

Penelope said.

"That's 'cause we did.... There was a time and place, we grew up together." Orionne replied.

"Forgive me young man, but I can't quite digest everything that's happening right now, and everything you are telling us."

Commented Zach as he placed more wood into the fire.

Orionne nodded in agreement.

"This wouldn't be easy, but I'll try the best I can to tell you everything." Orionne said.

Zach and Penelope, sat around the fire to listen to Orionne.

"The world you see, and you know right now, isn't everything it is. There was a time when everyone lived in harmony. The people, the trees....the spirits...., and everything you see around it."

Orionne gestured his hands in such a manner as of sprinkling something, and sparkly, glittery lights, came out of his fingers, and just like that, Zach and Penelope can see everything Orionne was telling them about.

"The world, was beautiful, abundant, and safe. Nothing harms anything, or anyone."

"Then one day, the sun did not come out. The seas and skies above it, grew angry. The earth shook as if something was wanting to come out beneath it."

"Fire, filled the air. You would think it's totally the end of everything."

"But there somehow was what seemed like an invisible shield which covered the creatures of this world."

"Then the sky opened up and creatures of light, ones so bright your eyes could burn just by looking at it, started falling."

"The next morning, the sun showed up revealing what now seemed, a wasteland."

"People somehow survived, though they weren't really as they were."

Orionne slowly took-off his cloak, revealing his true self. Pointy ears, bluish-white light leaking from behind them.

Penelope and Zach's eyes were fixed, staring in awe of what was unfolding before their eyes.

"They only light-up when I'm using what you might know as something like magic."

- Orionne said as he noticed how Zach and Penelope were taken aback from all they've seen and known so far; Fear, settling in their eyes.

"I think that's all for now." Orionne said.

"Go get some sleep and I'll keep watch for the night."

Zach and Penelope still couldn't believe their eyes.

"You would have died if you stayed." said Orionne.

"What?" - Zach said.

"You were wondering, what would have happened if you'd stayed in the village."

Orionne answered.

"What,? How....?" Zach said in his surprise.

"I read minds." said Orionne.

"Well, Isn't that great!" - Zach said.

"You read minds and you look like that."

"That village is nothing but piles of ash and rubbles now."

Tears filled Zach's eyes and tightly hugged his wife.

"It all happened after we left." Orionne said.

"That is why we keep moving. We always have to be on the road."

Orionne then took a thin branch, and stuck pieces of it around them; From the tent where Ameriel is, and the entire place they're currently at, each piece glowing, when Orionne sticks it in the earth, as if glowing, hot, melted gold was flowing from his hands, down the stick, and into the earth. Then glowing thin smoke started to rise from where the sticks stood, and slowly formed a dome above them.

"These will keep us hidden and protected." Orionne said.

"Ameriel is at her weakest, yet in some creatures' eyes, she's a beacon. And they would want to come near her. Unwanted visitors could come our way every now and then, including ones beyond my strength. We have to be able to protect ourselves and stay on alert. To the creatures I told you about, this shield could only do so much, to buy us some time. We all are now in great danger." Orionne added.

Orionne kept watch the entire evening and haven't got much of a shut-eye by dawn, when suddenly, they all woke up to Ameriel shrieking, cries of immense pain filled the air.

They all rushed to the tent, and found Ameriel floating in her bed, covered in deep wounds, claw marks, but a lot bigger, deep as her muscles could go, her blood dripping on the floor.

Orionne whispered what was somewhat an incantation, and Ameriel started to calm down, and slowly descended to her bed.

Then Orionne moved closer and placed his hands on Ameriel's wounds, and they slowly closed and were completely healed, without a trace in no time. He then placed his palm on Ameriel's forehead, and she seemed peaceful.

Penelope then came near her as well, and placed something beside Ameriel to make her feel safe. Teddy.

"This seemed important for her, so I tried to put it back together. I hope this makes her feel safe." Penelope said.

"Thank you, she will surely be pleased  when she wakes up and see it." Orionne said.

"Is she gonna be okay?" asked Penelope.

"I hope she will be." answered Orionne.

"For now, all I could do is to make her body stronger, to give what her body needs, something a simple spell can do, to sustain everything that's to come. It might take days for her to wake up."

"She's really been through a lot, hasn't she?" said Penelope.

Orionne nodded.

"In this timeline and the others as well, yes." Orionne said.

"Poor child, why does she have to go through all these horrible things?"

said Penelope.

"She had to, every single time, every single lifetime she lives. That's the only way she could get all her memories back and be her true self again." Orionne said.

"What is she?" Penelope asked.

"Remember what I told you, about our past, and the creatures of light that fell on earth?" said Orionne.

"Yes." Penelope answered.

"She's one of them." Orionne said.
