Chapter 35: Pulling the Wool Across All

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

It was night again.

In the Sutra Pavilion of the Cold Fire Sect.

Since the incident at Celestial Palace Hall not long ago, there were now twice as many people patrolling here than usual.

In a dense forest thousands of feet away from the pavilion, a faint silvery figure slowly emerged and under the cover of the night, the figure's face could not be seen clearly as only the eyes could be vaguely made out.

The figure looked up to the octagonal pavilion, which looked rather mysterious in the night. After a while, he took out a lavender talisman and pasted it on his body.

The lavender talisman broke apart and turned into several fuzzy tadpole shaped talismans that flew up and down around the blurred figure and then went into his body.

A purple mist suddenly appeared around the blurred figure, which instantly covered it completely and made it disappear from sight.

The figure did not really disappear, it had just turned into nothingness as it floated towards Sutra Pavilion, not even bothering to avoid the patrols.

Although those on patrol were dedicatedly looking around, and sweeping their divine sense at every corner, they were unable to detect the figure that floated right past them.

After a while, the figure floated to the entrance of Sutra Pavilion.

It was already late in the night and Sutra Pavilion was closed. On the broad stone door, there were faint traces of light and it was obvious that there were restrictive seals on it.

The figure mumbled incoherently and made some hand seals before blowing out an almost invisible blue gas which hit the door.

If the blue gas was magnified a hundred times, it would be seen that the blue gas was composed of countless tiny runes. Once the gas touched the restriction seal on the door, these tiny runes integrated into it.

The restrictive shield seemed to have been corroded as a big hole appeared, the door without the restriction seal was no more useful than a training dummy. The figure then quickly shot through the newly opened hole.

The light of the seal on the door flashed and was restored immediately.

All of this happened very quickly and the patrols outside did not detect any abnormalities.

That figure entered Sutra Pavilion and a circular hall appeared in front of him.

The hall was huge, about two to three hundred feet and more than ten paths extended out of the hall. The figure had no clue where any of the paths led to.

However, right beside him was a flight of black stairs that wound up to the top of the pavilion.

The figure looked around and then flew silently towards a passageway.

The passageway was not long and he soon reached the end and in front of him was a closed stone chamber.

The stone chamber door, like outside, was covered with a layer of white restriction seals.

There was a white jade slab on top of the door, where the words 'Cultivation Techniques' were engraved.

A trace of joy flashed past the figure's eyes and he blew out a blue gas. Like before, the white seal was corroded by the blue gas and a small hole appeared. The figure then quickly flew through it.

Behind the stone door was a large room with hundreds of bookshelves, all covered by a layer of protective red light.

Each bookshelf was divided into several grids and there was a jade slip in each square.

There were signs beside the grids to introduce what kind of skills were recorded in those jade slips.

The figure walked to a random bookshelf and blew out a blue gas which corroded the red light around the shelf and a big hole appeared. The figure waved his hand and used suction magic as several jade slips were sucked into his hand and his divine sense penetrated into it.

After a while, he threw the jade slips back onto the shelf with a slight frown.

The skills in the jade slips were for those of Core Formation or even Nascent Soul stage and were of no use to him.

The figure walked around the room and before long, he had checked all the jade slips on the bookshelves and he shook his head in disappointment.

He turned around and flew outside without hesitation. He quickly went through the stone door and returned to the hall.

He immediately entered another passageway and at the end of it was another stone chamber.

There was also a white stone slab on the top of the door with the words 'Magic Skills'.

The figure did the same thing and broke the seal on the door before entering it.

Before long, the figure returned and entered the third passageway.

Two hours passed in the blink of an eye and the over ten passageways had been fully explored by the figure. He was frowning and it seemed like he had not found what he was looking for.

That figure slowly floated to the black staircase that was located the furthest from the entrance and he looked up at it before carefully flying up.

The staircase was not long and there was a huge stone door that was several feet wide at the end of the staircase.

There were two men sitting cross-legged at each side of the door.

The man on the left was fair and fat, he wore a purple kasaya and looked like a monk. The man on the right was tall and thin, his complexion was yellow and he looked quite ill.

However, there was a faint light above their heads and the aura they gave out was like a deep sea. They were two very strong people of the Spatial Tempering stage!

They had their eyes closed and were cultivating, feeling nothing about the things below them.

The figure looked at them and quickly moved his gaze away as his eyes landed on the stone door behind the two men.

Wave-like light appeared on the stone gate, reflecting colorful dense light. It could be seen that the restriction seal here was much more powerful than the ones in the stone rooms below.

If he guessed correctly, the inner pavilion of the Cold Fire Sect's Sutra Pavilion was most probably behind this stone door, where the most exquisite scriptures of the Cold Fire Sect were stored. It seemed like it would not be easy to break through the seal here.

The figure narrowed his eyes slightly and paused for a moment before he moved forward again. He landed lightly in front of the door and was less than ten feet away from the Spatial Tempering stage cultivators.

At this moment, the fair, fat monk on the left raised his eyebrows slightly and opened his eyes as he looked to his left and right.

"What's the matter, Brother Lingxi?" The tall and thin man on the right also opened his eyes and asked with curiosity.

"Nothing," the fair and fat monk mumbled as he looked back at the inner pavilion door.

He did not find anything, but there was a faint feeling that a secret skill he had practiced for many years picked up. However, the success rate of this skill was not very high. In addition, when he thought of the layers of restriction seals around the pavilion and how the two of them were on guard here both day and night, not only fusion stage cultivators, even if mighty figures from the Great Ascension stage wanted to cast their covetous eyes here, they could never do it without leaving a single trace.

With this thought, the monk slowly closed his eyes again.

When the tall and thin man saw this, he also closed his eyes and continued his cultivation.

The figure remained motionless on the spot, and moved his eyebrows slightly only after the two cultivators closed their eyes. A strong divine sense spread out and completely covered the door and formed a protective shield between the door and the two cultivators.

He then opened his mouth and a blue gas came out before it landed on the restriction seal on the door.

The wave-like seal immediately lit up as if it was resisting the invasion of the blue gas and sent out waves of magic, but the two cultivators who were separated by the divine sense barrier were unaware of it.

The figure changed his hand seals and the blue gas rose and shrank as it fought against the wave-like seal. It made the area in the center become a little brighter as a small hole appeared.

The figure shook and disappeared into the door.

All this seemed complicated, but breaking the seal on the door and going through the door took just two breaths. As soon as the figure disappeared, the divine sense barrier also silently dissipated.

"Eh?"

The fat monk raised his eyebrows and opened his eyes again as he looked back at the big door behind him.

The wave restriction seal on the surface of the door sparkled and emitted a dense light without any abnormality.

But a bad feeling lingered in his heart. Although it was just a flash, he was still full of doubts.

"Did Brother Lingxi find something?"

The tall and thin man seemed to feel that something was wrong. He stood up in a hurry and looked back at the door first, then closed his eyes again and swept his divine sense around.

"Brother Qingtao, did you find anything wrong just now?" The fat monk went to the door of the inner pavilion and looked at it carefully.

"Unless… someone can fly hundreds of miles from Sutra Pavilion in two to three breaths, or break the Glass Water array that was set up by the Patriarch and enter the inner pavilion," the tall and thin man opened his eyes and he shook his head before saying slowly.

It was obvious that he got nothing from his search just now.

"How could it be? It must be an illusion." When the fat monk heard this, he shook his head with a wry smile.

If one wanted to break the Glass Water array silently within two or three breaths as well as restoring it on the way in, then even the Great Ascension Grand Elder of the sect might not be able to do it so efficiently.
