Chapter 6: Chapter 5
One Month Later
After Lunch~
All of the class's students were called to the school field by Teacher Zhou.
"Looks like everyone is here. Shen Yin, come to the front."
"Yes."
"Based on my observation, you are the strongest one here. So you will be class president. However this position is not permanent, anyone can challenge you for it. Understand."
"Teacher Zhou, can I turn down this position?"
"Oh, why?"
"I don't believe the role of class president suits me. Can you select another person to take up the role?"
"Then, Wang Dong being the second strongest can be class president."
"Yes!" Wang Dong replies.
"The afternoon class is to train your body. Everyone, see those? Everyone here must wear those and keep running until the end of the class."
I did as instructed and put on the weights. After feeling the weights for a but, I understood why these students panicked so much. They are certainly heavy but I can probably endure them.
"I see everyone in my class as the same. Do you guys believe in combat, the enemy will care if you are a girl, or a support unit? Will they ease up on you? No, they will target you first."
'These words are cruel but true. In this world, only the strong ones will succeed.'
"I'll say this again. In my class, someone can be kicked out at any moment. The person who comes last will be kicked out. Start Running."
I began to run along with the rest. I noticed that Yuhao, like in the story, was running considerably slower than the others.
'It's not like he's running so slow. The fact is that he's preserving stamina. Running fast doesn't mean you'll pass. Teacher Zhou specifically said that we have to run till the end of class so it doesn't matter how fast you are, you just have to keep running.'
I went up to run alongside Yuhao and whispered, "You're smart." It was soft and almost inaudible but enough for him to hear. He turned his head towards me but I just smiled slightly at him and nodded. He looked shocked for a moment but nevertheless smiled back.
Yuhao's Pov
Since I'm the weakest one here, I have to run slowly and save up my strength so that I can run longer. I was just focusing on myself when I felt someone running beside me. Then I heard a voice, "You're smart." I turned to see classmate Shen Yin looking at me with a small smile. He looked so cool and gentle. He kinda reminded me of Senior Bei. Come to think of it, this is the first time I've seen him make an expression ever since school first started. He usually has an emotionless blank face on, you can never know what he is thinking. Although he seems very mysterious and cold, I'm sure that he's not a bad person. I should try to get along with him as much as I can.
3rd pov
One and a half hours passed by, students have dropped out here and then, unable to take another step due to exhaustion. There were only 10 students left running.
Shen Yin ,too, was sweating quite a bit compared to this morning. He was still able to run in a constant pace.
After a little while longer, 8 more people dropped out and panted on the floor, trying to catch their breath. Only Yuhao and Shen Yin were able to keep going.
The other students were starting to mock and laugh at Yuhao for being so slow.
'They are probably finding excuses for Yuhao being able to keep running more than them.' Shen Yin thought.
With each lap Yuhao ran, the students began realizing that despite being weaker than all of them, they were the ones who gave up faster than him. One by one, the students picked themselves up and ran alongside Yuhao and Shen Yin who was beside him acting like a support of some sort.
After half an hour more, the bell finally rang. Every student besides Shen Yin collapsed onto the ground, covered in sweat. Shen Yin sas just standing among them, wiping away the little sweat drops on his face with a handkerchief he had bought during lunch since he knew this was gonna happen.
A golden light shone behind me and a leaf fell in front of me. In an instant, he could feel some of his spirit energy recovering. Just like in the manhua, Teacher Zhou found a spirit sage to heal all of us.
"Besides Yuhao and Shen Yin, everyone else here did not complete my instructions. I should punish everyone. But, I see how you all were inspired by Yuhao. There will be no punishment today. No one will be dropped out. Wang dong, come up. As class president, you only care about yourself. You did not set a good example for everyone else. From now on you are no longer class president. The new class president will be Huo Yuhao."
'Eh, me?' Yuhao thought
"If there's anyone who challenges him, it will be your responsibility to engage. Shen Yin, as the original class president, I expect you to help out."
"Yes." He answered back.
"Do you have a problem, Wang Dong?"
"No!"
"Dismissed."
Everyone surrounded Yuhao and cheered for him out of excitement and relief. It was all thanks to him that they weren't expelled after all. I was just about to head back when…
"Shen Yin!!"
"Huo Yuhao, what is it?"
"I feel like I should've done this a month ago but since things got busy I didn't have the chance. I'm Huo Yuhao, but you can call me Yuhao."
"I could say the same for myself. I'm Shen Yin. Since we are bound to get close someday, you can call me whatever you like."
"Then, I'll not hold back and call you brother Yin."
"Go ahead."
Shen Yin's pov
After taking a shower and changing into a spar set of clothes. I got into the lotus position and cultivated. In this one entire month, I managed to reach rank 37. Two weeks ago, Lei taught me a method to channel my Yin and Yang element. He told me I can actually make protective charms that defends the wearer's life once when threatened. The protection takes many different forms depending on the situation, it is basically adaptable. The downside is that I can only make one charm each month because my control and spirit energy is still insufficient. Making more than one would take a toll on my body. I had actually succeeded in making a charm after several failed attempts where the energy ended up returning to my body and I had to start over. After we became legitimate friends, I decided to give it to Yuhao as a sign of friendship. The charm actually took the form of a necklace with the Yin and Yang symbol.
Once I finished my daily cultivating, I went out of the dormitory to take a walk.
While walking, I submerge myself into my thoughts.
'I became friends with the protagonist. Initially, I did not plan on getting close to him and left him alone to grow on his own along with the plot. I wasn't going to steal his cheats, take away his events or disrupt his future. I wanted to search for my own path in this world. But since things have come down to this, I might as well let myself be swept away with the story. I had always respected him for his hard-working nature anyways.'
All of the sudden, I heard some people yelling from the side which brought me back to reality. I looked over and saw a crowd of people. I was about to walk away when I saw Yuhao being lifted up in the air. Not wanting my first friend to be bullied, I rushed over and attacked the person holding him.
3rd Pov
Things were escalating pretty quick as the red haired senior yanked the 1st year up in anger, ignoring the two voices demanding him to stop. He was about to continue threatening the boy when he detected a strong spirit attack aimed at him. Out of reflex, he jumped away letting the boy go.
Everyone saw the blue haired student fall, only to have a girl catch him with a senior beside her. Someone had jumped in to defend the boy. They all saw a cool looking black haired guy standing in between the boy and the senior.
"Brother Yin!"
"Yuhao, are you ok?" Shen Yin went and used his divine eyes to check him for injuries but found none which was a relief for him.
"Oi, who are you? You dare interfere!" The red haired guy launched himself at Shen Yin but was once again intercepted by another person. It was Senior Bei Bei.
"Heh! I was going to say who dares step in again. So it's you."
"That's right! Xu Sanshi!! How dare you harm my people!! You won't get away with this!!" The girl, Senior Tang Ya yells before using a spirit attack.
"Heh! You're really gonna fight me." Xu Sanshi dodged the first attack but wasn't so lucky on the second one. The second attack had hit his arm.
"Hey, Tang Ya!! I thought you wouldn't have the guts to attack?!"
"Come, you think I'm scared?"
"Xu Sanshi, you dare bully my junior? If you don't give me a good reason, we need to take it out in the spirit arena."
"Those two are your juniors?"
"The blue one is but since the black haired one defended my junior. He is also considered my junior."
Timeskip~
Somehow without Shen Yin's notice, things have progressed this far. The two seniors had decided to duel it out in this very arena they were in. It was only moments later that he realized that today was actually the first appearance of Jiang Nannan and Xu Sanshi, the supporting characters of the story. 'I feel like a hypocrite. Just a moment ago I said I wasn't going to disrupt the plot but here I am now doing the opposite.' Shen Yin mocked himself.
But he didn't regret his actions of interfering and protecting the ones he called friends. What he didn't know then was that his good looking face and confrontation with the famous senior had propelled his popularity, he was then called a 'Black Prince'.
"Yuhao, do you mind introducing your little savior from earlier?"
"Ah, this is my classmate, Shen Yin. We happened to become friends sometime ago."
He turned his head towards the source upon hearing his name being called out.
"I'm Yuhao's friend, nice to meet you."
"Brother Yin, this is Sister Ya. Tang Sect's leader."
"Hey, Hey, since you seem quite strong, why don't you come join the sect?" Tang Ya attempted to persuade the boy into joining. It was half-hearted, though.
"...I don't mind."
"Eh, really? You can't take it back, ok! Ok!"
"Mhm…" Shen Yin nodded his head awkwardly.
"What luck! To find such a good member to join. Now there's four of us."
Later, Wang Dong came. He and Yuhao had a little argument which ended up with him agreeing to join the sect as well. He lets out a sigh in relief that my interference had not disrupted the plot at all.
Just like how it was in the book, with the help of Yuhao's spirit skill, Bei Bei managed to pull through and win the match along with the Mysterious water pill as the prize. As a result, Yuhao used up all of his energy and fainted. Wang Dong, his roommate, had to carry him back to their room.
