Chapter 22: Chapter 22
"No it's fine. I miss it actually. After he died, Jake stopped calling me that since I guess it was a painful reminder to him of our father." I said. I reached up and took the crown from my head since when I looked up into his face to get a better view of him, the heavy weight of it, coated in water with dried blood in the crevices, reminded me that I was still wearing it. I took it off and tried to clean it under the water but Jasper stopped me. He covered my hands with his and took the crown from me. He took off his as I said with a new wave of tears, "I am so s-sorry. I did not m-mean to get blood in-in it."
He shocked me by opening the shower door and tossing the crowns into my closet, out of my sight. He shut the shower door then said, "It is perfectly fine. I will get it cleaned when we return to Braxton."
I looked up at him as he said 'we' which made me ask, "What do you mean 'we'?"
"After you get done with your shower, get dressed. It is no longer safe here for you. I am taking you back to Braxton to discuss some thing with my father and mother. Do not worry about bringing anything, except for the trip. I will get you all new clothes and shoes when we get there. Until then, pack for a few days on the ocean. It is the quickest route to Failan." he said as he held my hands and stared into my eyes. I nodded in agreement then he left the shower.
Once he closed the bathroom door, I stripped of my stained clothes like they were burning me and threw them in the trash. I made sure to wash my hair, face, and body multiple times so that there would be no left over blood. After my shower was done, I quickly got dressed in an outfit I designed for the sea and then packed a few of my other favorites. I pulled my hair into a high pony tail then exited my closet.
Jasper took my bag from me then quickly ushered me into the carriage that was surrounded by Braxton soldiers. Ash was waiting inside the carriage. He gave me a hug as I sat down across from him. Once Jasper was in, Jake joined us. Then we started our way toward the docks an hour away.
As the carriage started to move, I said, "Ok I am ready for your questions. But first, I will tell you what happened." So for the next twenty minuets I recounted everything from the fight to the point where Jasper and Ash found me. I no longer had any tears to cry by that point.
Jasper was the first person to ask me a question. "That was the first time you have had to kill someone you know." he tried to ask, but it was a statement, with concern in his voice.
"That obvious?" I asked with a laugh. I know that this is nothing to laugh over but I decided to use my grief and anger when I get back at whoever order them to arrest me. "Where is my sword by the way?" I asked Jasper.
"Oh its in it's case. I will have it cleaned before I return it to you." he said with a smile as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and drew me into his side. "Don't worry until then I will protect you."
We all laughed at that but it I had to admit that I felt extremely safe with him, even if I have only known him for a few days. Ash was the one to state the obvious as he said, "You are taking this very well. Better than I took it the first time I had to take a life. Even better than Jasper, who I thought was inhuman when he had his first kill. He didn't talk to anyone for a few hours, much less laugh like you."
I sat up, looked at him, and smiled an unsettling smile, which made him and Jake shift in their seats. "I was raised to bury my emotions down deep. Lock them in a coffin. Let it build up pressure for years. Then at the right time, pull the nails out. Turn it into unbridled rage and kill whoever is in my way."
I watched as the two men across from me looked at me in fear for a split second before Ash looked at me with respect and Jake looked at me with pride. I looked over at Jasper to see him smiling widely at me as if I was the truest form of happiness. Ash was the one who broke the silence as he said, "That is truly scary. You will make one hell of a queen someday."
