Chapter 5: The Hidden Garden

She can hear some of the priestesses sterling and starting their day. Breakfast will be served soon. Stretching feeling her body slowly wake. Her mind drifted to the seed that she took from the library the night before. She walked over to her table across her small room and picked up the small light brown seed. It did not look special but deep in that seed she could feel something.

She put the seed down and went to put her day clothes on. She pulled her hair up and in to a knot. She poured some water in a basin and washed her face and hands. She grabbed the seed again but this time put it in a front pocket on her dress and headed to the door. Today she was going to go to her garden.

Downstairs in the dinning hall the priestesses we're setting the table for breakfast. She walked over to help she grabbed the napkins and spoons. She slowly walked around the table and places a napkin first then the spoon on top. When she was done with this job the cook came and told everyone breakfast was ready. Bowls of portage were passed around till every person had one. The high priestess blesses their foods in the name of the moon and earth. There was some extras that you could add in that sat on the table there was dried fruit like plums, persimmons, figs, nuts and some salted meat. Shandra likes the figs and nuts. She liked the salty and sweet. When she was done she took her bowl to the kitchen and placed it in the basin for the girl who was on dish duty. On a full warm stomach she set off to the forest. The weather was starting to get colder. She can feel the breeze bringing winter to the castle. She can smell the far off places on the wind. She had to walk through a thicket. But when she was through it thinned into a clearing her hidden garden. She had apple, plum, fig trees when they bloomed the sent was so pleasant, floral, and sweet. It could take any bad day and make it good. Her veggies were at the end of their season. This made her kind of sad. She watered some of the plants that were still producing. She then turned to her herbs. This area was her pride and joy. She grow the herbs for the high priestess. But she also had herbs that she was growing to make her own book of plants. Some herbs were for healing and some for cooking. She pulled the seed out of her pocket and looked for the perfect place. Somewhere not too sunny and would get enough water. She walked over to their trees and planted it near them. The dirt was moist and cool to the touch. She pressed her index finger in to the ground yielding a hole for this new seed. Dropping it in and pushing some dirt to cover the hole. She stood and grabbed a small bucket from the a tree and went to the stream close by. This creek was much smaller but the water was just as cool and just as calming as the bigger stream.

Slowly pouring the water on the newly planted seed. She made sure not to drown the seed by over saturating the ground. After watering the new plant she made some more trips to the creek to make sure all her other plants we well watered as well. As she placed the bucket back she walked back into the center of the clearing. Turning slowly taking in the sights, sounds, and smells she stopped and sat on a flat rock. She shifted her dress so she could sit with her legs crossed. With a deep breath she rested her hands on her knees. She cleared her mind more with each breath. Breath in, air feels cool coming in her nose, down her throat filling her lungs. She can feel the energy of each plant that she has cared for. Breath out, all the tension that filled every fiber of her being left with the breath.

Breath in. Breath out. Breath in. Breath out.

She slowly opened her eyes and rose her hands and started to concentrate. She felt her energy grow hot in her chest. It was like a small fire she coaxed it to life. She felt it grow. The warmth spread through her body. Growing hotter with every breath. Then with all her focus she sent it out in ripples, just like the ripples in a pond after you throw a stone into the pond. Her warmth spread to each plant that she personally planted and watched grow. She willed them to grow to nourish the beloved plants and to nourish the new addition. That plant was different she could feel it pull her attention. This made her curious. As she thought that her warmth was cooling. The garden was watered and nourish. Lowering her arms she just sat and rested. The sky was beautiful, bright blue, warm sun, and the sun to warm on a cool day. It always brings a smile to Shandra's face. 'Well I guess I should head back.'
