Chapter 3: Morning!?

Chirp chirp chirp.

I shifted in the bed. I opened my eyes just a small slit before closing them again.

"Ugh! It's morning," I muttered, still not opening my eyes. "I seriously don't want to go to school today..."

The events from yesterday flooded back into my consciousness. I immediately forced my eyes open, squinting against the sudden exposure to bright light.

I sat up straight, shuddering. "It... It's morning." I blinked at the sunlight filtering through the window, waiting for my eyes to adjust.

Chirp chirp chirp.

"Was... Was that all a dream?" I asked, staring at the bird outside my window, still baffled. "Dreams can't be so vivid, can they? Can you actually feel pain in dreams?" I glanced around my room.

My school uniform, which I had changed out of, was still draped over the chair. My bag lay on the floor beside my bed, and all the books for yesterday's tests were scattered across my study table.

"So, it was not a dream?" I mused to myself, listening to the bird's song outside my window.

At this point, I didn't know what to believe.

"Let's just get this over with," I thought, even though I was hopeful that everything that happened yesterday was just a dream. However, I wasn't rushing to any conclusions. The sun was already up, which was unusual since we were usually ready and waiting for our school transport by this time.

"It's too early for a drama," I muttered to myself as I left my room.

The house was eerily quiet. As a member of a large family, I had never experienced such a quiet and peaceful environment. Living with a big family was always lively, and something was constantly happening.

Before doing anything else, I checked the entire house, but I found no one.

I was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday, which dashed my hopes. I headed up to the roof to get a better view of the surroundings. I was certain that I hadn't seen any stray animals on my way back home, nor had I heard any.

It was now 9:17 AM, and about fifteen minutes had passed since I'd woken up. During that time, I hadn't seen or heard a living soul.

The start of September brought the first signs of autumn, with leaves turning red and the weather growing pleasant.

I looked around one last time before a gentle breeze brushed past.

The street and the main road connected to it were completely empty. Cars were parked, but there was no sign of life.

I thought about the bird. I hadn't heard it since coming up to the roof, and technically, I should have been able to hear it at least faintly. Had it gone quiet after I left? I was sure it hadn't flown away. I felt a pang of sympathy for the bird; it must have been lonely.

I didn't know how long the world would stay like this. I could survive being a bit of an introvert, but birds couldn't live alone, could they?

I returned to my room, still unable to hear the bird. I slowly opened the door and glanced toward the window.

The bird was gone. Maybe it had flown away when I came down, or perhaps when I went up. However, I should have seen it, considering it didn't take long to get from the first floor to the second floor, where the roof was.

*Grrr grrr* My stomach growled.

"Wow, that's embarrassing," I mumbled before heading to the kitchen. "Not."

I made myself a sandwich with a glass of milk. I was just too lazy for anything else, and the combination of a sandwich and milk wasn't a bad one.

While eating, my mind kept returning to the time when my phone had seemingly appeared out of nowhere into my hand.

After satisfying my hunger, I returned to my room. Even though I didn't know what was going on and couldn't solve the mystery at the moment, I decided to check the available things in my room, hoping to find a clue.

I picked up my bag from the floor and placed it on the bed. Last night, I had checked it in the air, and my whole arm had gone inside. I still couldn't believe what had happened. Perhaps my bag had been torn, and the darkness was an illusion.

This time, I was sure there was a surface inside.

Like last night, the interior was pitch black. I turned on all the lights in the room, but the darkness remained.

I picked up a lamp and directed its light inside the bag. To some extent, it illuminated the interior, but the darkness seemed to grow more prominent.

Was I scared? Yes, but more than scared, I was excited.

I turned off all the lights.

I didn't know much about what was happening, so it was best to be cautious. It was kind of funny how the saying "you shouldn't disturb the dead" kept coming to mind.

With my arm inside the bag once more, the same thing happened as before. My entire arm slipped inside without any resistance.

It was strangely cold in there. It's hard to explain; it wasn't the typical cold we feel, but rather a lonely cold. One might say it was how a person might expect a void to be. Perhaps my mind was playing tricks on me.

I started pondering how I had retrieved my phone. Since it was mine, I didn't want to leave my hand inside the bag for too long, so I tried to come up with a solution.

I was thinking so hard about it that at one point, I just started thinking about my phone, repeatedly saying it in my mind.

As soon as I did that, my hand latched onto something. It was my phone, and I was ecstatic.

I made a guess about what was going on and to confirm it, I thought about the books I had placed in the bag.

As soon as I thought about the English book, my hand found something. When I examined it, it was indeed the English book.

I literally jumped a few times while exclaiming, "It's a pocket dimension!" I was trying hard not to shriek, "A freaking pocket dimension!"

"I can't believe it! I have a pocket dimension," I said to myself, taking out one book after another and putting them back in. I repeated this process for a few minutes.

"I'm not crazy," I assured myself as I realized what I had been doing. "I'm just new to it."

"Okay, maybe I am a little crazy," I admitted, as I found myself justifying my actions to thin air.

I calmed down by putting some distance between myself and the bag, placing it on my study table.

I lay back on the bed with a huge smile on my face, staring at my phone that lay beside me.

"I should charge it," I thought. However, I was too lazy to even move a hand.

I lay there, contemplating how I would lose my comfortable position if I moved. So, I began making a list of pros and cons.

I would definitely need my phone later to check the time and use maps.

"Wait, wait, wait, do I still get an internet connection on my phone?" I sat up, tightly gripping the phone. I opened Google and searched for

random things, and it worked. My 4G connection was working fine. I even tested some social media apps, and they were working too.

Would there be more people like me? Would every place be like this? Or was it targeted to a specific area? All these questions that had been lingering at the back of my mind rushed to the forefront.

It was 2:56 PM, and I decided to head up to the roof again to check the situation, particularly to see if the bird had returned.
