Chapter 3: The Scroll of Nightmares

"No longer be a loser, you say...?"

The temptation enveloped me, it felt like a snake was preying on me. I gripped my hands tight, attempting to resist it. Then, the trauma started pinning me down like thousands of arrows striking down from the sky. I started pondering if rejecting it was the correct choice. I don't want to be hated again, it's not my fault that I have no magical affiliation. Why do I deserve all this hate? Everyone who hated on me should just die. Being used to it doesn't mean I like being hated, not at all. In fact, it hurts me whenever I listen to their gossips about me.

"I... I want to be stronger, I hunger for power, I don't want to be despised by this toxic society!"

My looks were similar to a carnivore thirsting for meat, a really desperate one in fact.

"Very well young one, that's the answer I love to hear. Now, please open up the scroll and relish the thought of incredible power about to enter your body."

Yes.. Yes! The power that I've always wanted is all in this scroll, now opening it up—

Time stopped, but I still could move.

I looked around myself to make sure what I was seeing was accurate. What I saw was the whole world, literally stopped in motion. I returned my attention on the scroll when it suddenly started glowing brighter than just now, and vanishing gradually.

Time resumed, and suddenly, I felt a sharp increase in my magical energy, it was almost like a miracle. But that bliss was short-lived when the power started accumulating to the point that my body basically started overflowing in magical energy.

My body was burning up, the energy enveloped my body in flames and I was groaning in immense pain. I felt like a vampire revealing itself to the sun, it was beyond anything a regular human could handle. Despite being able to use my magical powers as I was still in the library, the heat resistance I was able to generate was no where near close to how hot the flames were. I eventually turned victim to the flames and passed out, prepared to die anytime soon. This was definitely the end of me, there was seemingly no way to put out the flames, it was over for me.

"Are you sure you are just going to give up like this young one?"

The reaper's voice crept into me once again, I strained my eyes open as I glanced at the reaper for one last time, and stopped breathing.

Another cliffhanger?! Well, yes. This is definitely not going to be the end of Vainvalent, or is it? I'll try to publish the next chapter within the next 2 days so stay tuned to see how does this turn out!
