Chapter 5: Lordain
Forest, Near Lordain
Wurkus: Deus, we are close to the town, are you as excited as I am?
Deus:…
Wurkus: Ok, sorry for waking you up until you lazy snake.
As Wurkus was walking towards the town, he was followed by a group of ten men.
M1: Boss what should we do? If the Beastman arrives at the town we will lose our chance of getting some easy money.
Boss: Let's capture him and if he fights back we can kill him. Even dead a Beastman can be used.
M4: Allright boys let's get our prize.HAHAHA.
When the men were close enough for Wurkus to find them, Wurkus stop and looked back.
Wurkus: Now, why are you following me?
M1: Shut up and be a good pet for us. You'll come with us to be sold and that's it.
Wurkus and the rest of the man companions facepalmed when they heard him.
Wurkus could fell that something is wrong with the town. Why would these men want to capture him, but immediately he found why…slaves. These were slave traders or something close to this job.
Wurkus: No reason to negotiate right?
Boss: We can bring you warm, or we can bring you in cold. We are ten while you are alone plus the fact that we have three fighters among us.
Wurkus: I like those odds.
When the men heard Wurkus, the start rushing at him, but as one of them was three meters away from Wurkus a small thing shot from Wurkus arm.
That small thing was Deus. Deus bit the man's neck and his venom was the reason the man died immediately.
Wurkus himself didn't stand and wait for the attackers. He thrust his spear, piercing one man and with his free arm, he grabbed another one. He used his strength to snap the man's neck.
Deus wasn't idle either, he killed another man.
Seeing that four of his men were killed in just a minute, the boss was scared, but he ordered his fighters to attack Wurkus believing that they could kill the beastman.
When the fighters were in Wurkus reach he throw his spear towards one of the fighters, pinning the poor man in the ground with a hole in his chest.
The remaining fighters saw that his friend was killed that easy he tried to retreat, but how could Wurkus let him escape. He was caught by the neck by Wurkus and in the next second, he saw his whole life before he loses his life.
Wurkus looked at the surviving slavers and smiled.
His smile sent shivers to the men and all of them turned to run away from him, but they found that the couldn't move their bodies.
Wurkus and Deus released their aura which made the men unable to move.
Wurkus walked in front of the pinned man and picked his spear. He looked in the boss's eyes and with one thrust he killed the boss while Deus killed the remaining men.
The battle took only three minutes from the beginning to the end, but for Wurkus this was the first time, in both of his lives, killing a human being. He was just a normal man after all, but he knew that this wasn't his home life.
After a while, he began searching the dead bodies.
He found some silver coins and some copper ones. With his 100 gold coins, he had 100G 5S 60C. He was pretty rich for someone that lives in the forest.

Wurkus didn't let the weapons with the bodies, he picked ten iron swords. He wanted to sell them, but after seeing what these humans wanted to do with him, he decided to hide the swords, before he goes to the town.
Three hours later
Wurkus stood in front of a stone gate.
In front of him stood twenty guards that were ready to fight him.
When he arrived, one of the guards yelled at him and the rest of the guards arrived ready to fight him.
Wurkus didn't want to fight the guards, but he didn't want to be enslaved either. He decided to wait for the captain of these guards and ten minutes later a man in his thirties with iron armor arrived and start yelling at the guards. After he found the reason why his men were so ready to fight he walked in front of his men and spoke.
Captain: I'm Rafael, Captain of the Guards. What are you doing here Beastman?
Wurkus could see that Beastmen weren't welcomed by the humans, but he didn't become angry or anything.
Wurkus: Hello there sir Rafael. My name is Wurkus and as you can see I'm a beastman. I arrived here hoping to buy something, but it seems that Beastman isn't welcome here.
Hearing Wurkus words, Rafael finally understood why would a Warrior appear here and why would his men become so scared. He was proud of his men, but he didn't want to fight a warrior without at least 100 soldiers or fifty fighters.
Rafael: Well then, if you only come here for trading then you are welcomed in Lordain, but I hope you will not cause a scene or something in the town. It didn't matter that you are a warrior, if you cause trouble, I'll capture you myself. Understood?
Wurkus: Ok
When the guards heard Wurkus, they felt relieved.
But as Wurkus tried to walk inside the town he heard a voice.
??? : I don't approve. How could a dirty Beastman walk in this town? If you want to enter you will have to walk over my dead body.
Wurkus looked at the person who yelled at him. He saw a young man that was standing with a sword in his hand looking at Wurkus with hatred.
Wurkus was sure that he didn't fought or interact with any humans before. The only ones he speaks or fights were Elisa and her men and the slavers.
Wurkus: First things first, why are you looking at me with hatred? I don't know you or your family. Even these guards are the first humans that I saw and speak with. I didn't interact with humans until now so could you tell me why are you ready to fight me, boy?
???: I'm a knight and my name is Pano and as a knight of Sir Alexander.While you are a dirty Beastman that needs to be put down or will you be a slave for us?
Rafael could feel that something was wrong with Wurkus.
Wurkus released his aura and all of the guards felt it, some were so terrified that they start retreating even Rafael felt that death was waiting for him, but the most shocked person was Pano as the aura was directly aimed at him. He could see a figure with a scythe
near him. He knew that this figure meant dead and if he ends up doing something wrong he would die.
Pano ends up his brave display and kneels down.
Pano: I'm sorry. I was wrong please forgive me, sir. I was just blind with power.
Wurkus stop using his aura and looked at the guards: Anyone else?
Of course, none of the guards said something.
Rafael looked at Wurkus and he could swear that Wurkus was ready to kill Pano if not for that fool last revelation. Never in his life, he felt so close to death and from that day, Rafael decided to become a better person. The same thing could be said for Pano as well.
After this small encounter, Wurkus enter the town and he was shocked by what he saw. The town was really clean and looked really nice. Houses made of wood and stone, a big market in the center of the town and a church near it.
It wasn't like earth towns(Earth Medieval Towns were dirty places to live in. There was no sewage system as we would know it today. Many people threw toilet waste into the street along with other rubbish. Rats were very common in towns and cities and lead to the Black Death of 1348 to 1349. Towns might use pigs to eat what rubbish there was. Water was far from clean as a local river would have been polluted with toilet waste thrown into it from villages both upstream and downstream. Therefore, as people would have used this as a source of water (they had no other choice) and because people knew little about health and hygiene, the disease was common. Life expectancy could be short. Life for a poor person in a town or city was described as "nasty, brutal and short". )
After the small shocking encounter within the town, Wurkus decided to go to the market.
When he arrived there he could see many stalls selling anything even slaves.
He knew that slavery was legal in medieval times and this world wasn't an exception, but what shocked him the most was the fact most of the slaves were Beastman and only a small amount of them were humans.
Wurkus walked in front of one of the men that sold slaves.
Seeing a beastman approaching him the man sneered, but when he saw that Rafael was behind the Beastman he smiled.
Merchant: Sir Rafael, you brought me a slave?
Rafael: Chaz, this man here isn't a slave, his name is Wurkus and he's as strong as Alexander.
Chaz: Impossible, how can a Beastman become so strong?
Wurkus: You don't need to know that merchant. I only want to buy somethings here and there so shut up and do your job.
Chaz was shocked by Rafael's words and if want he heard was true, then this Beastman has the power to kill all of them if he wants and even Alexander can't fight him. Humans are weaker than beastman. A Beastman fighter can fight two human fighters and live and maybe even three.
Chaz: I'm sorry sir Wurkus for my words I was shocked and greed spoke for me. How can I help you?
Seeing the quick change in the merchant tone, Wurkus smiled.
Wurkus: I want to know what slaves do you have and how much they cost.
Chaz: Of course follow me. Would you like to look at men or female slaves?
Wurkus: Both. Men first.
Chaz guided Wurkus to a place where slaves were kept. Wurkus could see that most of the slaves were badly treated by these humans, but he didn't create a scene here.
Chaz: We have 50 beastman slaves from different tribes, but most of them are weak Rabbitkin with 32 members half males half females. Eight of the remaining slaves are Lizardmen all males as females are really hard to capture alive as they kill themselves when captured while the men just fight back. The last ten are Bearkin 6 males and 4 females none of these 50 beastman are children.
A rabbitkin cost 1S, Lizardmen 10S while the bearkin 5S.
For humans, we have only five of them all of them are ex adventurers that had some debt that could be paid. All of them are fighters so they are a little bit expensive as they cost 35S each. Now that you know how much all of these slave costs tell me how many do you intend to buy?
Wurkus: All of them.
Chaz was shocked when he heard Wurkus words, but his merchant side was so happy that he could die.
Chaz; Of course the total would be 3G 3S and 70C.
Wurkus took 3G and 4S which shocked Chaz again because even Alexander and his brother Carl wouldn't take much wealth immediately.
Ten minutes later all of the slaves were in front of Wurkus.
Looking at his people, Wurkus spoke.
Wurkus: I'm sorry that this was the only way you could regain your freedom. My name is Wurkus and as you could see I'm a beastman.
As Wurkus spoke, one of the human slaves raised his hand.
Wurkus: Yes?
???: I'm Carl. I want to know how can a beastman walk so freely around here? Didn't the guards or one of Alexander so-called knights capture you?
Wurkus smiled at Carl's words.
Wurkus: Of course they tried, but if you use your energy to sense my strength you'll get your answer.
Carl and the rest of the fighters were shocked when the sensed Wurkus strength and finally understood why would he walk in the open like that.
After some time, Wurkus spoke with all of his new group and found that among them the lizardmen were all fighters with the leader of the lizardmen Kaa being close to advancing to the warrior stage, two of the bearkin were also fighters and with Carl men, he had 15 fighters. The rest of his group were ordinary people but none of them was week by human standards. Even the rabbit kin can fight a normal human one on one and win.
