Chapter 25
Today was Monday, I'm at the school. Right now, I'm with Amanda and Leo at rooftop doing nothing but to stare at the sky. Amanda was at my right side while Leo was at my left side. We're leaning on the wall. I sighed.
"I'm bored." I said.
"Me too." Leo followed.
"Me three." Said Amanda.
The three of us sighed. It was almost the end of the year, few more days and then we'll on our vacation already.
"I want ice cream." Amanda mumbled.
"The weather is too cold for ice cream, Amanda." Leo complained.
"Then, let's boil the ice cream and eat it." Amanda said.
Leo and I looked at her with disgusted expression. "That's gross." We both said in unison.
Amanda rolled her eyes at us and leaned her head of my shoulder. "Whatever."
Silence.
No one's talking since there's nothing to talk about. We're all done with our research paper. There's no much work now since the end year break is coming near.
I closed my eyes when the wind blows. It was cold and fresh. I can't help but to squeezed my eyes close and just feel it. Later, I found myself fallen asleep.
I just open my eyes when I felt something touched my face. I slowly opened my eyes, I'm still here the rooftop.
"You're awake?" I heard someone said. Near my ears, I looked at that person and I saw Leo. My body's leaning onto his.
I moved a little. "Where's Amanda?" I asked my rubbing my eyes with my hands.
"She went down, she said she'll buy something for us." He said.
I sat properly. "Eh? What time is it?"
"Around 12 noon."
"Oh, it's lunch time." I said.
I was stretching my arms when my phone beeped. I get it inside my pocket. I received a message from Felix.
'Eat you lunch, okay?' The message contained.
I smiled and composed a reply. 'Yes, you too.'
After my sudden visit at the Laliola, he kept on texting me. He's always reminding me to eat my lunch or to take a rest after school. I know he's busy but he's still caring for me. And I so glad because of his efforts.
"You seem happy." Leo said suddenly. "Who's that?"
I looked at him and showed the message. "My brother."
"Oh, yeah. I remember, you told me about them before." He said. The wind blew and his curly hair dance in the air. "I'm jealous. "
I chuckled. "Why? You're not close with your brother?"
He stared at me then sighed. "Close but not same as your brother. Lincoln rather stay inside his room, playing games than to stay with us. He's just 10 years old but he act like he's older than me." He clicked his tongue aith irritation. "Sometimes I felt like he doesn't want to be with me."
I laughed at him. "HAHAHAHA! You're so sweet."
He slightlu smacked my arms. "I'm not." He defended. "I just thought, how would it be if I had brother like you."
I frowned. "Me? Why me?"
"You're caring and responsible. Your brothers lucky to have you."
I looked at him with affection. "Are you falling for me?" He threw me sharp gaze.
He showed his middle finger at me. "Shut up."
I laughed while tapping his shoulder. "Come on! Hahaha!" I can't finished my sentence because I'm laughing.
"Shut up." He said then held my hand to stop me from tapping his back. "As days goes by, you're adopting Amanda's personality." He hissed.
"You called me?" Out of a sudden, Amanda appeared.
"Amanda!" Leo and I looked at her, startled.
"What are you doing?" Amanda said. "Leo! Why are you holding Kyle?! Don't touch him! He's mine!"
Leo let go of my hand. "Whatever."
Amanda rolled her eyes and squeezed herself in between of Leo and I. "I bought sandwiches and juice, here." She gave Leo his part.
"Where's mine?" I asked.
"Here!" I was about to get it when she extended her arms away from me. "Say, please master first!"
"Please, fucker."
"Hmmp! Hidoi!" She squealed. Then she gave it to me.
"Whatever."
The three of us eat in peace while sitting at the rooftop. I broke the silence.
"What's your plan for the break?" I asked.
"Hmm..." Amanda mumbled. "Watch anime."
"Sleep." Said Leo.
I clicked my tongue. "Boring. Think of something that we can do."
"Let's watch anime! The three of us!"
"Let's sleep, the three of us."
My shoulders dropped. "Seriously?"
Leo chuckled. "Kidding." He said. "What about party?"
Amanda butted in. "Just us?"
Leo shooked his head. "No, let's invite all Grade 12 students. We'll just asked for teacher's permit."
"Yeah, then the location will be here at the academy." Amanda said.
"Then, you guys talk to them" I said. "That's not my cup of tea."
"So unsociable." Amanda said. "Let me fix that. They'll allow us, I swear."
"How sure are you that they'll allow us?" Asked Leo.
Amanda thumbs up. "Of course! We have our ace card here!"
I frowned. "And that is?"
She smirked. "My cuteness!"
Leo and I ignored her, we continued to eat our sandwiches. "Whatever." We both said in unison
"Hmmp!" Amanda squealed and eat her sandwich.
At 12:30 P.M., we went to our room. It's rainig outside and the wind was pretty heavy. I was looking outside, there's no teacher inside. My classmates also noisy, so irritating.
"I don't have umbrella." Andie said at one of our classmate. "Do you have umbrella?" She asked her friend.
"I have but only one."
"Shit! What about me?" Andie squealed. "My make up will be ruined!"
'Pfffft. Karma.'
The class still noisy until we heard a knock. Our stares drifted to the door. It was Mr. Augustus who knocked.
The class sat properly at their designated chair. Mr. Augustus went infront.
"12- B, " he called out our section's name. "The teachers will be having meeting today, so I'll just left you with some activities."
I heard displeased whispers.
"Eeeeeeh?"
"I want to sleep."
"Boriiiing."
Mr. Augustus sighed. "After you finish that activities, pass it to Anna. Then you can go home."
His statement made the class roared.
"YEAAAAAAH!"
Mr. Augustus started writing the activities on the board. The class went silent. After he's done writing he faced us again.
"Pass you papers to Anna. No paper, I'll mark you absent. Understand?" He said while fixing his glasses.
"Yes, Mr. Augutus!" The class said.
I was writing the activities at my paper when Mr. Augustus called my name.
"Kyle." I looked at him. "Can you help me arranging the papers at faculty room?"
"How about my paper, Mr. Augustus?"
"Finish writing it, no need to answer then pass it to Anna. " he said. "Also, have one classmate to help you."
"How about John, Mr. Augustus?" I asked.
He looked bothered when I said Leo's name. "Sure." There's a hint of hesitation in his voice. "I'll wait for you outside."
I nodded then I went to Leo's seat. "Leo."
"Yes?" He said while writing.
I squatted to leveled myself to him. "Mr. Augustus asked me to help him at the faculty room and he told me to ask one more classmates to help me. Want to come?"
"I help you, wait." He said the fixing his paper. "Should we finished this first?"
I shool my head. "Just, write the whole activities, no need to answer. Then let's pass it to Anna." He nodded.
I went back at my seat finish writing the activities. I waited for Leo to finish his then we passed it to Anna.
"Anna, Mr. Augustus asked to help him. He said it's okay not to finished answering it." I said.
Anna nodded. "Okay." She get the papers from my hand. Leo and I went outside. We saw Mr. Augustus waiting for us.
"Let's go." He said then walked fast.
I frowned and whispered to Leo. "He looked like he's in hurry."
He awkwardly chuckled. "Maybe he don't want to be with me."
I frowned. "Why?"
He hushed me. "Shh, I'll tell you later." He said.
'What was that?'
I shrugged and just followed them.
We arrived at the faculty room. When we entered, there's no teachers around. I thought they have meeting?
"I'll instruct you about what you guys should do then I'll go to the principal's office." Mr. Augustus said. "The meeting will be there."
I nodded. "Okay, Mr. Augustus."
He went infront a cabinet and opened a drawer. "Arrange the folders of the Grade 12 students by sections, alphabetically. Boys first then girls." I nodded. "And removed those students who left and changed schools." He said while looking at me.
I slowly nodded. I felt sad because of it. Those students who left and changed schools.
'He meant John.'
I felt Leo tapped my shoulder. "Okay, we got it, Mr. Augustus."
I saw Mr. Augustus drifted his eyes and spoke. "Then I'm going." He said then walked out from the room.
I heard Leo sighed. "Haaah, wow. He's still mad at me." What he said caught my attention.
"What do you mean? And you said you'll tell about something earlier, what is it?"
He scratched his nape. "Remember when I take you to the clinic?" I nodded. "Well... we had little misunderstanding."
I frowned. "You and Mr. Augustus?"
He awkwardly nodded. "Yeah, he insisted to call your parents but Amanda told us to wait for you to wake up before. So yeah..
"And? What happened?"
"He kept insisting and," hus words sounds bothered. "I told him to stop meddling and wait for you to wake up."
My my eyes widened. "You told him that? He's our adviser, Leo. That's rude."
"I know." He looked guilty about his actions. "I thought he'll hear me out for my explanation but he just walked out."
"Does Amanda know this?"
He shook his head. "Amanda's out when we're talking."
I face palm. "You're doomed, bro."
He softly chuckled. "I know. I thought it would be fine but yeah, he snapped."
I tapped his shoulders trying to comfort him. "Apologize to him."
"I did but I think he hasn't forgiven me yet."
"I figured."
He laughed because of it. "Cast that aside. Let's finish this shit." He said. "Shall we?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I agree."
We started fixing the papers. Leo took the files of 12- B and 12- D, while I took the files of 12- A and 12- C. I started the files of 12- A.
Each class composed of 35 students except Class A since they're the elite class. I was supposed to be part of that Class but I asked to change my class to Class B. I known no one there, so I insisted to shift. Also, my other reason was John was at Class B. I want to be with him. I have no friends but him before I had Leo and Amanda.
Based of the files that was presented here, they're 29 students at the Class A. I'm almost done with the Class A, just one more student file.
I opened it, it was Amanda's file.
"Amanda Celesrine S. Yaquero..." I stated and read more of file. "Amanda is consistent honor since Kinder? Wow." I said in awe.
I heard Leo, who's sitting behind me, chuckled. "She's smart, right? "
I nodded. "Yeah, but still simp."
He laughed. "Well..."
I chuckled and place Amanda's files at the bottom of Class A's files and put it in a portfolio. I was fixing it when Leo called.
"Kyle."
"Hmm?" I looked at him, he's reading a student's folder
"John was 21 years old already?" He asked. "I didn't know that."
'Huh?'
I frowned. "What? No, he's just 18 years old."
He looked at me. "Eh?" He pointed out something in the folder he's holding. "But looked at his birth certificate." I looked at it. "It's 21 years old."
'21...?'
I tool the folder from his hand. "This must be wrong, he told me he's 18. He even told me when was his birthday and where was his birthplace." I chuckled awkwardly. "He shares everything to me. That must be wrong."
The month and day written at the file was right, December 31, but the year was 3 years ahead from his birth year. I'm sure of my words. We even celebrated his birthdays when he turned 17 last year with his and my parents.
Leo clicked his tongue. "Then this must be an error. Should we ask Mr. Augustus about it?"
I sighed and bit my lower lip. "No need."
"Why?"
"He's not studying here anymore." I said and averted my gaze to the Class C's files. "Thats unneeded."
"Okay." Leo said. He looked unconvinced. "If you say so." He said then put John's file at the Mr. Augustus' desk.
While fixing the Class- C files, I can't help but to bit my nails. I'm bothered as fuck. I can't believe what I just found out.
'In 8 years we been friends, was he just lying to me?'
