Chapter 68: Chapter 67 - Not yours

Haruto looked over towards Gin who held a stick in his hand as he played in the campfire. Haruto did not know what Gin was thinking, but it had him lost in thought.

Looking around, they were in the middle of the woods with the stars shining down on them. Karin was asleep as she had her mouth partially cracked open while Chibi was leaning against a tree with his eyes closed.

The only two awake were Gin and Haruto.

"You know, for my first mission I expected us to capture an exile, or escort some high ranking person. For a delivery, things have been pretty boring."

Haruto sighed as he spoke his thoughts.

"Not everything is what you think it is. Every mission while not seeming valuable to you, has its own worth in the bigger picture. The hidden rain is right next door to us and our two villages have had a decent relationship in the past. Our relations broke during the third great shinobi war, but you can consider this a way of recovering what we lost."

Gin replied to Haruto.

"Still, feels like we are only delivering something anyone can do. What's with the scroll anyways?"

Haruto asked Gin as he turned to look in his direction.

Gin finally gazed in Haruto's direction.

"You ask a lot of questions, it's annoying at times."

Haruto rolled his eyes.

"You ever think about our family? I mean… who we lost?"

Haruto asked as he changed the subject. He brought his knees close to his chest as he wrapped his arms around them.

"No."

Gin coldly replied.

Everytime he thought about the past, he wouldn't be able to sleep.

Haruto clicked his tongue.

"Go to sleep, you need your energy."

Gin told Haruto as he continued to play in the fire.

'What's gotten under your skin?'

Haruto asked himself as he stared at Gin. There was a lot he wanted to know, but little people told him. Haruto wasn't a kid anymore, he wanted to be included.

Still, as Haruto laid down and closed his eyes he soon fell asleep.

Gin looked at the three of them sleeping and sighed to himself. Shaking his head, he tried to get rid of the image in his head.

Listening to Haruto brought back memories he wanted to forget.

The next morning, Haruto woke up early. Gazing around the area he noticed Chibi was also waking up while Karin was still sleep. As for Gin, he was still in the same spot as he was when Haruto went to sleep.

"Wake her up."

Gin said as he looked at Chibi.

Chibi yawned but did as he was told. Karin had drool on the side of her mouth but quickly fixed herself after she realized she was the last one to wake up.

"Once we cross the border, you all need to be more vigilant."

"Why sensei? I thought this was easy?"

Karin asked Gin.

"The hidden rain village as its own problems, there are some outside the village who wish to see the village's downfall. Therefore, it is best that we don't help the hidden rain village."

Gin replied.

"And they'll do anything to see that we don't start up relations with them again."

Haruto added seeming to figure something out.

Gin himself did not reply to Haruto's comment, but Karin and Chibi both realized that the mission wasn't as simple as they thought.

As Haruto went to sleep last night, he thought over Gin's words and came to the conclusion that there was a reason a normal shinobi wasn't sent to deliver the scroll and pendant.

On the road to the hidden rain village, it began to pour down raining heavily. Gin wasn't too bothered by the rain, but the other three were slowly down a little.

"It isn't called the village hidden by rain for nothing."

Karin commented as she tried to keep her eyes open from the constant rain drops that continuously hit her face.

Haruto stopped moving as Gin raised his hand, signalling them to stop.

Reaching into his pocket, Gin threw a shuriken off towards the right. The shuriken rotated in the air as it curved before going behind a tree in the distance.

Haruto heard a metal clang ring out.

"Come out."

Gin said coldly as he looked towards the tree.

A man wearing an anbu mask appeared from behind the tree. His black spiky hair hung down over his shoulders.

"I didn't think they'd send you."

The man wearing the anbu mask spoke before his body flashed.

Gin's eyes followed the mans movements while Haruto and the other three stayed alert.

Four clones appeared in front of Gin, but from his facial expression he wasn't impressed.

"Stay close."

Gin said softly enough for the tree genin to hear him.

Chibi's eyes turned reddish as he activated his Ketsuryugan, hoping to be of some help.

The man stopped moving for a second, before his eyes changed and a flower pattern were shown in them.

Gin's eyes grew wide as he clenched his fist.

"Those eyes…"

Haruto started to speak.

Karin and Chibi didn't understand, but seeing the looks on both Gin and Haruto's faces they knew something was going on.

A faint memory passed through Gin's head as he calmed himself down.

"Give them back!"

Haruto shouted, his left hand was bleeding as he squeezed his kunai tightly.

The anbu man tilted his head slightly.

"Give them back!"

Haruto yelled again as his body moved.

Gin grabbed him by his jacket and tossed him back.

"Calm down, you're not his match. Focus on the other one."

Gin said to Haruto as he turned his head slightly in another direction.

Another figure appeared wielding two long swords in his hand.

Haruto heard Gin, but his blood was boiling. He knew about the second shinobi war, and what happened to a few members of the Asagao clan. The two youngest siblings of the Third Kōrikage had awakened the Reitgan. Shinobi who knew what the Reitgan was capable of wanted to have it for themselves, thus not only did they kill the two youngest siblings they also took their eyes.

It was one of the saddest moments for the Asagao clan as not only did they lose clansmen, they also lost something that reminded them of the First Kōrikage

"Seeing as you're blatantly using those eyes, you must be Blue-Dragon Ren."

"Haruto, what's with him? You know that ninja?"

Karin asked Haruto.

"No. But those eyes belong to someone in my clan."

Chibi placed his hand on Haruto's shoulder.

"I know how you feel, my clan went through the same thing."
