Chapter 3: To break a stubborn prince

Jason had left the office to go to his favorite spot in the entire school, the rooftop. It allowed him to look over the entire grounds and find some peace. How dare his mother try to tell him what to do. She was never there when he needed them and yet they thought they had the power to decide everything for him. It wasn't enough that they forced him to come to this school, but they even handpicked his classmates to be all the children of their business partners or people whose connection they desired.

As he was thinking about this he looked at the words on the school gates "Nihil nec munera, nihil rei publicae, aequos deos" translating to "no bribes, no politics and equal chances". Just like the French coin the words were etched around the school symbol. What a joke. These words were just a farce. His classroom proved that politics were involved. Very much so. Probably even some bribes. The lack of care in the past and the forceful interference now that he no longer needed it, made him more angry than anything else. He refused to take over the family business and refused to interact with any of the students in his classroom. The only friends he had were his childhood friends. Sure, they too were from powerful families, but at least he picked them before his parents gave him the light of day.

Susan Westwood made haste to leave her office and join him on his trip to the Netherlands. He agreed that drastic times, called for drastic measures. After much deliberation they decided on what drastic measure would benefit Jason most. They were going to meet up in his hotel room to figure out their plan of action. As soon as she entered their home she told their butler to help her book a flight to the Netherlands as soon as possible, while she went to pack her bags. Garry Jefferson had been with the family for many years and had become the families most trusted person. In some ways he was even considered a member of the family, which allowed him to move to the pool-house along with his family.

As soon as Susan landed at Schiphol airport, she looked for a sign holding up her name and hurried along to find her husband in one of the most expensive hotels of this small county, the Krasnapolsky. As she took the elevator to his penthouse suite and knocked on his door, she was relieved to see the face of the man who had loved her for over 20 years. She jumped in his arms to find comfort from this frustrating and helpless situation. Stephen Westwood, a man in his early fourties, was shocked to see his strong wife in this state. From her earlier actions one might not expect this, but Susan Westwood was by no means a weak nor emotional woman. In fact she was the one who tamed her generation's mr. Westwood and made him into the man he was today. Stephen feared no person more than his own wife, but she could not bear to show her ruthless ways to her own son. The guilt she felt towards him did not help the situation. She knew a part of his behavior came because of his lack of trust towards them, his parents. They were busy growing the family business in his younger years, causing them to break many promises and letting Jason grow up in a lonely home. And now, when she was trying to make amends, he assumed the worst with everything that she did.

As Susan regained her strength she showed her husband her determined glare, revealing her beautiful deep blue eyes. At this moment Stephan was reminded of her younger days, the day of their first encounter. Back then, she stared at him with this determination as well. That day it was the determination to break a stubborn king, now the time had come for her to find a way to break a stubborn prince. Stephen's path in his late teens and early twenties inspired the solution to the troubles they were having with their own offspring, to find their son a wife!
