Chapter 7: Clashes of the Titans

That had never happened before. Not in the years that Jonathan had made himself a little home here, and he wondered if something had happened to the white dragon.

It was a little strange to worry about a dragon, considering that they were the cause of everything that were happening around the world, but since the white dragon did provide some sort of protection by simply being around, Jonathan preferred it to still be around.

At least then, no other dragons would fly by and claim the forest as its territory. All kind of bad things would happen if that were to be the case.

Certainly, Jonathan never wanted to come face to face with another dragon ever again, especially the black dragon that had killed his mother and stalked him. It still stalked him every night, and he wished that he knew a sure way to kill it, just to stop the nightmare.

Taking revenge for killing his mother too.

The horrendous scars all over his body begun to burn, causing Jonathan to groan in anguish. The pain was never this extreme before, not since he was little. Not since the day that his mother died.

Not since the black dragon was close by.

Jonathan hastily exited the room and rushed towards the blast door down the faintly lid corridor, and once he was there, he raised his hand quickly and flipped open a small slit window built into the blast door itself.

It was the only mean of keeping in contact with the outside world.

Of course, it had been covered up by all the snows, and Jonathan used his hand to push the snow out of the way and looked outside.

He waited and waited, ignoring the burning sensation all over his body. It was still very painful, like he was on fire, but it was not as painful as the one within his memory.

Nothing could be more painful than that.

After a few more minutes, snows began to descend again, allowing Jonathan to exhale a short breath of relief. He was relief that the white dragon was still around, and that scared him a little.

The howling winds blasted through the forest, rattling every tree nearby. It came and went and came again, causing Jonathan to try to look upwards and at the milky white sky.

From his understandings, dragons usually stayed airborne unless there was something or more likely someone drawled their interest.

However, as Jonathan watched the part of the sky that was visible to him, nothing could be seen other than whiteness. But he knew something was up there. High above the clouds itself.

It was simply his intuition, and it was rarely wrong.

A loud roar echoed throughout the area, following by another and another, louder every time. It was deafening, tearing through the trees and leaves and snows, causing the winds to screech in escape.

Then something colossal plummeted into the earth, driving up massive amount of snows and dirt. The resulting mist blocked everything from view as Johnathan pulled his eyes from the opening and licked his dried lips and swallowed hard.

Jonathan knew what had fallen straight from the sky. He also had a good idea why it had fell from the sky. There was only one thing in the sky that could…

The resulting mist was blasted away seconds later by a pair of vast black wings, belonging to that of a jet-black dragon. The same dragon from his memory. Only it was bigger and surely far more deadlier.

Jonathan gulped as he watched the black dragon rolled and quickly reoriented itself upright and then roared skywards. The very air rippled under its voice, forcing Jonathan to cover both of his ears.

He felt his brain was being pulverized.

The roar eventually stopped, and the black dragon flapped its massive wings, igniting the surroundings in a whirlpool of flames, leaving only the ashen earth behind along with burning trees.

The dragon then shot straight into the sky and disappeared out of view.

Jonathan could not follow due to the limited angle of the slit. However, he could listen and listen very carefully.

Roars resumed echoing throughout the area, and there were two distinct roars. He knew both of them, one more clearly than the other as he had listened to it many times for years. That roar soon weakened and faded away, leaving only one roar behind.

The ground shook heavily once more, and more snows and dusts fill the area. Jonathan shifted around to see what was happening, but whatever was happening was currently outside of view.

Jonathan pondered a moment and went to grab a small mirror from his storage. While it was a risk, it was a necessary risk. He needed to know what was happening, and how to prepare for the future.

With the mirror, Jonathan built a little contraption that allowed him to see around the corner. He soon returned to the slit and passed the mirror through and checked the surroundings.

There it was, the white dragon. Majestic as ever despite being stained in red. It was bleeding heavily, and it was being pinned down by the much bigger and much heavier black dragon. That black dragon was also injured, but not as much as the white dragon.

The white dragon tried to break from the hold, and when that failed, it tried to muster a dragon breath to blast the black dragon.

Seeing that, the black dragon clamped down the white dragon's neck with its massive jaw. It then used its powerful jaw to lift the white dragon upwards and threw it across the forest.

The white dragon flattened trees and the earths when it crashed into the ground, uncontrollably. The white dragon let out a faint growl and tried to put itself up. When it did, one of its wings was bended at an awkward angle.

That limb was obviously broken.

The white dragon growled weakly at the black one, seemingly pleading for its life. It was defeated, and it had no strength left to fight.

Jonathan could not believe his eyes. He was unable to fathom how a massive dragon could be reduced to such a state, but then again, the only thing that could kill a dragon was another dragon.

The black one returned with a mighty roar, shaking the very foundation. Its body then glowed brightly, but before it could launch a fiery blast that could melt solid steels like they were made of puddings, it was blasted with a white beam of light.

The light instantly encased its entire upper body to solid ice.

Yet, in spite of that, the burning red flames manifesting in its belly continued to rise. Once that reached the upper frozen body, the ice exploded violently, freeing the black dragon.

The creature shook its head and looked towards the new comer. The white dragon did the same, and it was as shocked as the black dragon, at least from what could be seen within its draconic eyes.

Jonathan was as shocked as well, for he never imagined the attack came from a person. A person who draped in some kind of dark robe. His face was covered completely, leaving only his eyes visible. There was also strange light illuminating outwards from within.

"Foolish human," the black dragon growled, and Jonathan was double shocked at what his ears were hearing.
