Chapter 3: A shocking Investigation.
It's been several hours since the group of guard villagers departed from their village. They have always guarded, but now they have a new objective for the sake of the village and that's investigating a mysterious green and black flying monster that appeared hovering in the sky near by their village.
It was so strange to the people living there, especially for Jesse and her team, that she was leading towards the Northeast direction. It was such a strange thing she ever saw in her lifetime, but never seen anything like it. She was beginning to think that it was possibly a new monster, or some sort. There was a total of 8 village guards, including herself, and it's been a while since they have heard any strange sounds.
"Hey, you guys think that weird monster stop making those loud sounds because its sleeping now?" One of the village guards whose name was Nicholson said meanwhile holding onto his spear a bit tighter in his grip, The group kept hearing dozens of times of those loud sounds for a while, but now it's been quiet after a few hours later, which was worrying to them.
"No, I don't think so, but now that we are close to the direction, I think we heard a few times, they are probably around here, somewhere." Another village guard said whose name was Raphael while holding up his bolt crossbow in his hands. That's until they all stopped after a loud sound was heard again, which was close by them and Jesse and Raphael notice the corpse of a huge monster on its back, it made some village guards, intense at the sight of it and thought that it was still alive, but the wounds on its body looked pretty gruesome in the pool of blood, indicating that it just died not too long ago.
"What that is impossible! That's a high level metal bear, what do you think killed it?" A village guard said among the group with shock and felt frightened at the sight of the monster, even though it's already been eliminated, Jesse was the one who got closer to the corpse and notice that it's wounds were small holes and also burn marks around the skin, assuming there was also a powerful explosion that someone or something probably cause and if she could recall only a high level person could do that, but they often serve the king at the Capital, so it has to be a very powerful monster that is capable to do this much damage.
"Whatever and whoever is responsible for this is possibly close by, so look sharp every one and be on your guard, we don't know who we are going up against but be prepared because the mysterious flying monster must have something to do with this too!" Jesse said to the group of fellow village guards, and afterwards started to scan their surrounding they were at, that monster must have something to do with this, and if not, then what was able to take down a metal bear, Raphael also did the same, since he had sharp eyes among the group and couldn't shake, the feeling that they were being watched by someone or something.
Whatever was going on here in this small forest was a mystery itself and in the group, a female, whose name was Ashley, held a small shield on her right arm and 2 daggers in both her hands. She thought that she spotted something in her naked eye. Ashley turned to see who it was, but saw that there was nothing there and had a confused expression on her face. Didn't she see a pair of red hued eyes in the shadows of the trees and bushes.
The group resume walking together towards northeast, where the last sound they heard was a group of popping noises. They didn't know what exactly it was, but they were going to eventually find out one way or another. There was more and more rare and common and uncommon monster's scattered around the area, there were some monsters that were even higher level, like the metal bear and would have been impossible for the group to continue their investigation if they weren't defeated by something.
It was strange, definitely, is happening in this small forest, and the smell of something burning around here, a few aftermaths of explosions here and there, and a few monster limps scattered in the area, it was quite a gruesome sight, it looked more like an intense battlefield, but it was in a small forest. Instead, the smell of gunpowder also was in the air. Jesse and Raphael were the ones that had more experience in the group and were shocked at the recognizable smell.
Gunpowder was a very rare material in this world that only nobles and the king of the capital were able to acquire and buy and sell. This investigation was becoming more and more serious. By the second, they didn't know if the ones responsible here was a nobleman, or the King army somehow knew about the mysterious flying monster and fought against it throughout the small forest, but if that was the case, why were there also other monsters eliminated too, unless they were in the crossfire?
But then again, there were also some high level monsters here, too, that was defeated and killed by unknown wounds, and not even the King army is able to defeat a few them without having some casualties, but there was not a single human spotted in this small, dense forest, Jesse halted and wave to everyone to duck down and pointed towards her direction. She spotted movement up ahead, but couldn't tell what it was due to the forest being pretty dense, Raphael scooted close by to get a view she was looking at.
A huge monster, which is the size of a metal bear, begin to roar loudly towards something that Jesse and Raphael couldn't tell and in return, there was those loud, rapid banging sounds again, and everyone had to cover up their ears. The village guards all got together closely to see what was happening and watch silently behind 2 trees and a couple of bushes, they saw the big monster stumble backwards while covering its face with its large paws. It looked like something injure, its face somehow.
That's when everyone's face fell and were scared by the sight of unknown humanoid figures holding up black objects in their hands. The soldiers begin to suppress the monster by firing their M16's, meanwhile, another soldier held up a M72 LAW and aim it at the injured monster. After getting into position, it fired the weapon and the rocket launch in a blink of an eye towards the monster and it collided against its paws. A loud explosion happens afterwards and the monster fell on its back as it howls in pain.
They started to surround the monster that was barely able to get back up due to its wounds. It's injured face looked at the strange humanoid figures with rage and hatred and that's when they took aim with their weapons and begin to unleash a barrage of bullets into the big creature, it started to howl very loudly, but it soon fell silently. Afterwards, the village guards were terrified at the display that happen and couldn't believe what they saw was real.
"This can't be happening... That was a rare high-level monster that only higher level people could defeat with ease!" One of the village guards said with the sound of his voice shaking as everyone couldn't move their eyes off of the humanoid figures that were carrying strange black objects in their hands, that was able to easily defeat the high level monster. Whatever those things were and the humanoid figures, the village guards could tell that they were very dangerous and capable of defeating them easily if they were spotted from their hiding spot.
"Everyone we have to get out of here as soon as possible and inform the elder and the capital on what we have found and discovered, this is more serious than we expected, and more than we can handle. And those strange looking creatures, in those green clothing's and equipment they have possibly has something to do with that mysterious flying monster that hovered near our village and possibly flew from here." Jesse explains and said to her, team quietly as possible in order not to alert the humanoid figures up ahead that seemed to be busy conversing with each other. Raphael and Ashley and the rest of the team nodded before they started to move away from the scene that took place nearby, trying to be quiet as well, until one of the village guards step on a stick that fell from one of the trees. They immediately stopped and cringe to themselves at how loud it was.
Jesse, hope that whatever those things were didn't hear that, and turn, her head around slowly to look over her shoulder to see if those humanoid figures were still there, but what surprise her was that they were gone, where did they go in such a short of time like that. Ashley was beginning to sweat nervously as the group resume moving again towards the opposite of Northeast that they came from. She really didn't want to encounter those scary humanoid figures that were clearly strong enough to defeat the rare high-level monster. The village guards knew their limits, and they were no match against those humanoid figures, if they attack them, then it wouldn't end well for them, especially that strange green object that they shot at the monster that resulted in an explosion. There was just no way, suddenly, the sounds of footsteps were heard as if rushing.
The village guards turn their attention to the source of the noise that was coming from behind them. What they saw made them afraid. At least 20 of those humanoid figures were rushing directly towards them. Raphael drew his bolt crossbow and shot it at them. One of the humanoid figures immediately shot it down with a strange black object in its hands. This caused the village guards to panic and immediately started to run away as fast as possible away.
"These guys are fast, this isn't good they're going to catch us, they must have noticed us when we step on that stick or already knew we were here, all along... Everyone split up and meet up towards the village. First, we have to get away from them! Go!" Jessie started to order her team before everyone ran their separate ways. They didn't refuse the idea after all, since being in a group together with have them be caught in one scoop. Jesse looked over her shoulder one last time and notice that the humanoid figures were splitting up as well in order to catch them. All these strange humanoid figures seem more intelligent than she thought and their manners were oddly, similar to an infantry soldier, but somehow more advanced.
"We have to inform the Elder and The Capital about this!"
