Chapter 22: Change of plans
"Oh no, Kaname. You will not run away."
Kaname tried to discreetly leave the command tent after the discussion started on planning the next move. But she was stopped by a hand put on her shoulder and the sweet voice of her mother.
"Sorry, gentlemen. I have to exchange some words with my little daughter, excuse us…" Sachi said, leaving the tent and dragging Kaname away by her collar.
"Aniki! SAVE! ME!"

"For how long were you on this battlefield?! Why didn't you try to find me?" her mother yelled at her.
"I'm sorry mommy, I got here one and a half days ago and you know how yesterday looked like."
"Why are you even here? You should still be in the academy for gods' sake! And why, have I heard you landed in the hospital after your first mission?"
"Konoha required more troops on the frontline, for this, the four-year academy teaching plan was thrown out of the window and replaced with a more compressed two-year plan. As for why I landed in the hospital, I was ambushed and had to fight against a Chūnin and his team." Kaname replied calmly.
"*Sigh*" Sachi scratched her head, "Are you okay now? Does anything hurt?"
"Well, except that I got almost cooked this morning, but other than that, I am okayish."
Her mother dropped on her knees and gently hugged her daughter.
"I missed you my Litlle Butterfly, let me hug you for a minute. I need to recharge my Kanahium batteries, it's the only source of power more important than chakra."
"Hehe, I missed you too."
"Okay, thanks, Little Butterfly. I won't be able to go with you, but I will pull some strings to send Ryuichi with you. After you return I will train you in iryōjutsu, do you want to stay in my tent?"
"Thanks, mommy, but I think I should stay with my new friends."
"Fufufu, It'ss nice to see the bonding of a mother with her daughter. I'm ssorry~ Sachi-san, can I talk privately with little Kaname?" Orochimaru interrupted the duo.
Sachi stood in front of Kaname protecting her with her body, "I will allow you to talk alone, but if you do something to my Little Treasure I promise, you will think that the brain tumor is a birthday gift when I'm done with you, Snake."
"Fufufu dully noted. I jusst~ want to talk." After Sachi left them, the Sannin faced Kaname.
"So Kana-chan, do you know why Hokage ordered me to take you away from your platoon?" he asked. With Kaname shaking her head, he explained.
"You're making a name for yourself, we, as the elite ninjas, think you are ready for a promotion. This expedition will be your test, we move out in 3 days, if you want to, I can help you with your kenjutsu training - I'm one of the best Konoha has to offer."
"Eh? Me a chūnin? Why?"
"Fufufu, from what I read in reports you pretty much lead your platoon while they were charging at the frontlines, what's more, you saved our army from an artillery barrage. Maybe you're young, but you are already chūnin material. Meet me in six hours, if you want to survive the following days, I may need to show you a few moves."
"I will, thank you Orochimaru-san, and see you later."
"Go little Uchiha-chan, your brother wanted to talk with you"
Kaname found her brother waiting for her around the corner.
"Morning Aniki, can you teach me how you did those things from before, with this flaming ribcage, and with stopping the projectiles? It was pretty cool."
"*Sigh* It's the clan's secret Little Squirt, we need to talk somewhere private, follow me, I know the best place"
The siblings left the camp side-by-side and headed towards the closest hill, they sat on the broken tree bough.
"As you know the Sharingan has stages of evolution. All of the Uchiha clan members think that it finishes its evolution on third-tomoe. But there is a stage above it, it's called Mangekyō Sharingan." Ryuichi explained, activating his Mangekyō Sharingan showing his eyes to his little sister.
"They look beautiful Aniki, when will I get them?"
"*Sigh* I hope you will never activate your own Mangekyō Sharingan, with their use you slowly turn blind…"
"WAIT! WHAT?! You are getting blind?! Is there a cure?! Does mom know?" shouted Kaname.
"*Shh* It's still a clan secret, don't shout. Yes, mom knows. She had her own eyes activated decades ago, but with her staying at the hospital she didn't have to use them too much. There is no cure, but it's a slow process, don't worry about me, we will figure it out after the war. There is more to those eyes, first, to activate them you need to lose someone close to your heart. Our clan is cursed, many of our ancestors killed their close ones just to attain this power, only for it to turn them blind in the end. Every Mangekyō Sharingan has a different appearance and powers, but they are original space-time jutsus, I don't understand all of my powers, but... With my left eye, I can control every chakra projectile my eye saw, with my other eye things are a little tricky, it needs a set of conditions that, when met, turn every genjutsu into reality just for the victim." Ryuichi explained. [AN: Here you go - this will be Kaname's powers soonish :-)]
"That's a little overpowered." she pointed out.
"Every use of those eyes requires a massive amount of chakra. The flaming ribcage you saw was a special technique for those with a set of Mangekyō Sharingan, it acts as an additional shield and weapon for the user."
"Okay, I decided, I promise I will not let you become blind."
"Little Squirt, don't worry about me. Now, what do you know about your Sharingan powers? Did you notice that you can copy all jutsus your enemy does?"
"Yeah, but it feels like cheating, I don't like to do it."
*Flick*
"Ouch! What was that for Baka-Aniki?"
"There is no cheating in war, you do everything you can to survive. Using your enemy techniques against them is an important part of survival. What's more, if your ally wants you to copy their technique, then you should activate your eyes and memorize everything they showed you, you show them some respect that way. Never copy a technique if your ally doesn't allow you to."
"Does it work for taijutsu and kenjutsu as well? What about clan specific jutsus?"
"Yes, but your technique will be weaker and slower than its creator. You need to train your body to use their technique. Clan jutsus are hard to copy and control, it's not impossible, but extremely hard. The only thing you can't copy are Kekkei Genkai's, like Byakugan or Chakra chains."
"Aniki, can you show me some jutsus?" Kaname pleaded.
"Heh, okay. But first, let's get something to eat."
After three days of having fun with her family and friends, and brutal training under Orochimaru, Kaname stood ready in the middle of the camp with her brother on her right.
"I'm commanding officer of thiss~ twenty man cell, we're tassked~ with capturing enemy's jinchūriki and desstroying~ their camp. Follow me."
After wandering one hour away from the camp, they stopped near the edge of the canyon. Orochimaru quickly summoned a big snake, and the team easily got across the ravine.
"Fufufu, that wass~ an excellent idea Kana-chan. Sso~ easy and ssimple~, yet no-one thought of it before, good job." Orochimaru praised her, jumping from one tree branch to the other.
"Thank you Orochimaru-san" Kaname nodded her head.
"Here iss~ the plan, I have got a sseal~ from Jiraya-kun, it will not allow Hachibi to transsform~ into his full form. I want the best five of you with me, the resst~ will obliterate the camp. We move quickly and quietly. Sstart~ on my ssignal~." Orochimaru instructed the team when they saw the enemy camp.
"Little Squirt," her brother whispered next to her, "I'm sorry, I am ordered to go with Orochimaru-san, I will try to get to you as soon as possible, please be careful."
"Begin!" Orochimaru ordered.
As she ran, Kaname saw her first victim, an unsuspecting patrol guard with a chūnin vest, she put him under genjutsu and silently eliminated him. The next victim was killed standing in a patrol tower by a jōnin from Konoha. The back entrance was now unprotected, Kaname quickly took care of at least another ten genins and chūnins, everything went perfectly silent without much opposition from the enemy. Then the entire camp was jolted by a massive explosion of smoke.
"Change of planss~, jinchūriki isn't~ here!" Orochimaru yelled out, standing on top of a gigantic three-headed snake. [AN: Naruto ch. 115]
'Oh, come on! Now the entire camp is on woah-' Kaname couldn't finish her thought, because she had to dodge a dozen flying kunais heading her way.
"One of them is here!" someone close to her screamed his lungs out.
Kaname swiftly dealt with this young Kumo genin. The next fight with two chūnins slowed her down, but with Orochimaru's teaching, she killed them in below a minute. Then she was pummeled by a chakra powered hit to her head, launching her into three enemy tents crashing and tumbling through them. It took her another minute to regain her bearings and releasing herself from the labyrinth of cloth and ropes. Kaname stood back up only to see an angry Kumo ninja with a jōnin vest, glaring at her and looking like he found his next victim for torture.
Kaname looked around, trying to swiftly locate her brother, only to notice him occupied by at least three enemy jōnins. Orochimaru had half the camp fighting him, Kaname was a little astonished - Orochimaru was winning, snickering at his enemies. There won't be any help from his side either.
'Well... fuck.' She thought, readying herself for combat.

dahnik What do you think about these powers - I imagined that later Kaname could gain "mongrel-slaying" powers and use her redirecting powers like gates of Babylon from Fate universe (such control of her powers will come much much later) :-) About genjutsu to reality power, I'm still thinking about requirements for it to work.
To all of you that are saying she is not op enough, and that the first thing she thought of is to look for help. Please remember she is only a fresh genin - think of it like this, would Sasuke win a fight against Asuma or Gai or Kakashi just a month after Emo left the academy?
Next chapter the fight, recuperation, training and time skip at the end :-)
