Chapter 4: Mom's teachings

`It's been a week since I've been reincarnated as a Nargacuga and it's shockingly not that bad. My mother isn't that different then my human one well the important things that is. As long as you forget the fact that she's a monster and so am I we look like a happy family. No father but I rather not ask about it.

Mom always feels comfortable around and it's reassuring that my Mom is a very capable women, err monster?

But it's not like I can relax all the time. I've learned quite a bit about the changes my body went through. The best one being that raw meat doesn't taste disgusting, in fact it's delicious.

Second, monsters aren't actually mindless beasts. My mother is proof of that. She can talk, reason, and think. Third, even though monsters are intelligent very there are the bunch that are also stupid. The best example being when a pack of Jaggi attacked our nest. Even though they saw each other becoming Mom's dinner they didn't ever retreat to save their own lives.

And most importantly my Mom's name is Lucy. Why is it important? Because she's my Mom!"

Completely accepting the fact that Lucy was his Mom and that he was a monster Lucius's life was a lot less stressful. But what Lucius doesn't realize is that his mind is adapting to the ways of a monster. He is becoming more in tune with his Nargacuga's instincts. His rationale is changing, when he was a hunter each fight was one where one risked death, but now he views fights as cool and a means to become strong. His once Adult mind was adapting to the child's body he was in.

-Lick-

Lucy licks the back of Lucius' head to grab his attention because on his mental tangent Lucy has called his name repeatedly.

Lucy "Lucius pay attention. It's time to practice your hunting."

" Mom how come I can only practice when I'm hunting my breakfast? I could improve faster if I hunted more often."

"That's a good question Lucius. Even though your only hunting mosswines and you may believe they're just pigs, every creature plays a role in our forest. The plants feed the Kelbi and the Kelbi feed us. And one day when we die our bodies will return to the earth to nurture the plants creating balance within the forest. But if you were to hunt the mosswines till you could no longer find them what would everyone else eat?"

Lucius looked at his mom with a deep sense of respect and amazement. Even though his mom was likely the strongest in the forest she had profound wisdom and foresight. She didn't abuse her strength and lived a life of moderation and peacefulness.

'Wait. If monsters thought this way, why do humans hunt monsters? If monsters are intelligent why hasn't there ever been communication?!'

Lucy "But not all creatures listen to my ideals. They become obsessed with power and lose themselves in pursuit of it. Monsters like these are the ones that started the conflict with the humans. And humans are the ones that stimulated the hatred in monsters. In a cycle of fear and hatred monsters fought a pointless war with the humans.

That's why son don't ever kill a human. Once a target is put on you they will stop at nothing to hunt you down.

Well that's enough for today."

Mom lead me out of the nest to oversee my hunt.

Now that I have the chance to live within the forest I see it differently than I did before. Before the forest was a dark and scary place where you risked your life to hunt the beasts within.

Now the forest seems to glitter as the sun's rays act like spotlights through the canopy. The once desolate forest floor was teeming with bugs and vegetation. Truly breathtaking just to walk through it all.

Lucy "Okay son. Now it's up to you to track, find, and kill a mosswine. I will watch you from afar and I will only step in should an emergency happen."

"Don't worry mom, I've got this."

And with that Mom practically vanished from where she was standing. It's amazing no matter how many times she does it. Even when focusing everything I got on tracking where she went I can't. All I can see is a blur like after image and the subtle rustle of leaves.

'Hopefully Mom will teach me how to do that one day.'

With training officially beginning it was time to head out and catch myself some breakfast.
