Chapter 2: Chapter 2

"Oh, shit."

Haeun managed to catch Lucas in her arms when he fell. The man was certainly heavier than she was and she struggled to maintain her position. Closing the door with her foot, she dragged the older man towards her sofa before laying him there. She took a moment to catch her breath as she locked her door. Now, what was she going to do with Lucas? He was soaking wet from the rain and if he stayed any longer in his clothes, surely he would develop a fever.

Haeun rolled up her sleeves and had a determined look in her eyes. Even though the man was her ex-boyfriend, no way in hell was she going to let him get sick unless she could help it. Quickly, she filled the bathtub with warm water. Next, she dragged the man into her bathroom and somehow managed to get him into the tub. Removing Lucas's clothes weren't difficult - hey, they dated in the past, there was nothing to be shy about! Haeun hoped Lucas would wake up soon, she was too tired to remove him from the tub and dress him.

She sat on the edge of the tub, wiping the sweat that was forming on her forehead. All you could hear was Haeun's panting and the sound of water filling the tub. She took the moment to think. What was she doing? This man was her ex-boyfriend, for heaven's sake! People don't usually help their boyfriends when they suddenly show up in front of their apartment, do they? Yet, the look in Lucas's eyes was all she needed to know that something was wrong. For 2 years, she tried so hard to forget about him and move on but just one look from his eyes was enough to make her heart beat fast. Who was she kidding? Haeun couldn't forget Lucas even if she wanted to and maybe a little part of her didn't want to let him go.

She turned to look at Lucas. He was still out cold but the water would wake him up in a bit, she believed. He hadn't changed much, he still looked like the same Lucas from 2 years ago. Haeun caught her hand slowly reaching out to cup his face but she immediately withdrew it - now wasn't the appropriate time. "What am I doing?" she muttered in disbelief as she folded her arms.

"Ugh...."

Lucas groaned, his head was spinning. What happened? "Right, I passed out," he lifted his hand when he noticed the warmth surrounding him. His eyes slowly opened and he found himself staring at his own body surrounded by water. He was about to panic when he saw the figure sitting at the edge of the tub. He could tell from a mile away who it was - Yoon Haeun. It finally clicked to him that he had passed out just as he arrived at Haeun's apartment. Haeun turned around and gave a soft smile when she saw Lucas had woken up.

"You're awake, good," she stood up. "Your wet clothes are being washed, new clothes and towel are over there by the sink. Just wash up and come out when you're ready." She turned off the tap before leaving Lucas alone in the bathroom.

Haeun made herself a small cup of coffee just to fight off her drowsiness. She made Lucas a cup of warm cocoa, he needed something to warm him up after the spending time in the rain. She sat down on the dining table and took short sips from her coffee, waiting for Lucas to come out. As much as Haeun wanted to ask him the hundreds of questions on her mind right now, it was getting late and she had work tomorrow - answers could wait until she had her beauty sleep.

Lucas found it a bit funny how he could still tell he was wearing his old clothes, his clothes that he left 2 years ago. They still fit like they used to and he noticed how the ink from the shirt had faded, indicating how old it was and how often it was worn. He wondered why Haeun hadn't gotten rid of everything that reminded her of him. Wasn't that like the first time in moving on from your partner? He smiled, he didn't know why but he kinda felt relieved. After getting dressed, he walked out of the bathroom while still drying his hair. He took a moment to look around her apartment. He saw her sitting down at the dining table, her chin resting on her palm. He saw the framed pictures on a nearby table, ones that he knew very well. It was pictures of him and her - well, now only one was left that is. The last picture they took and both of them looked so happy.

He turned around to ask Haeun why did she still keep this picture.

"Hae-"

Instead, he saw her head bobbing up and down. She was sleepy, it was obvious. He placed the frame back on the table, he could ask her at another time. Lucas headed to the dining table and lightly tapped her shoulder. She managed to be slightly alert but her need for sleep was catching up. Haeun finished her coffee in a single gulp before a yawn escaped her lips.

"I made you hot cocoa - make sure you finish it," she stood up and headed to her closet. Another yawn. "You can take the bed, we both know you won't fit the sofa. We'll talk in the morning, I have work in a couple of hours." With that, Haeun laid down on the sofa and wrapped herself in the blanket. "Get some sleep first, Lucas. Don't worry about it." Her last words came off in a slurred way and Lucas knew it didn't take long for her to doze off.

He found it amusing how Haeun felt safe enough to let him in her house, help him take a bath, made him a cup of cocoa and sleep on her bed despite not having contact with each other for the past 2 years. But that's just how they were in the past, they trusted each other a lot because before they were dating, they were already each others best friend despite how different they seemed. They were best friends since their childhood days and that naturally developed into romantic feelings. Their relationship never felt rushed, everything was just right to them. But all good things come to an end, Lucas knew that. So, as he sipped his cocoa - he slowly began to think how in the hell was he going to explain to Haeun about his situation.

He didn't want to be turned away again.
