Chapter 21: The other Me

"If X is positive, you have to put it up here." He sighed. "But if it is negative, you have to put it down there." He sighed. "And if X is equal zero, you..." He sighed again. This math lesson was boring as heck. They've had had this topic for over a month now but the teacher still kept going. He scribbled a tree in his folder. It looked ugly, so he erased it. Then he dropped his head onto his hands and tried not to daze off.

"What are we even doing here?" His body stiffened, his nails cut into his palm. "We could do other things..."

"Shut up", he said, his teeth gritted together.

"We could get out of this and have a bit fun...", the voice went on.

"Shut up."

"We could scare people..."

"Shut up."

"...or destroy some things..."

"Shut up."

"...or kill someone..."

"Shut up."

"...and eat him..."

"Miss?" He had pointed up. "May I go to the toilet?" The teacher rolled her eyes, nodded and waved her hand towards the door.

"Yes, but hurry up." He stood up, paced through the class and opened the door. As soon as it was closed behind him, he he blurted out: "What are you thinking, scaring the hell out of me during class?" He began walking down the stairs.

"I am just as bored as you", the voice answered. "Can't do anything about it. We're the same, after all."

"Yes, but that doesn't mean you can disturb me like that." He had reached the toilets and stood infront of a mirror. It was only him standing there, clutching the sink. Or was it?

"Oh, come on. You are not scared of ourself, right? You like me telling you our thoughts, right? Right?"

"No, I don't. You're a psychopath." The voice giggled.

"And so are you, my dear. We are one. I will always be with you, because I am you. And we are a psycho, that's absolutely true." It giggled again.

"Shut up", he said. "You are just a stupid voice in my head, nothing more."

"My dear, I am far more than just a voice." He heard it smiling.

"No, you are not!" He had grabbed his upper left arm and pierced it with his nails, as if pain could make the voice go away. "Go back to wherever you came from!"

"Well, that would be you darkest, most inner thoughts", it giggled. "You can't make me go away."

"Just shut up!", he yelled and smashed his fist into to mirror. It shattered into thousands of pieces which fell down onto him like rain. A few little ones cut his arm. A little drop of blood ran down his fingers.

"We need to go back to classes", he said more to himself than to the voice. The broken mirror pieces crushed beneath his shoes. They went back silently.

"Miss?", he said, as he opened the door. "Someone has broken one of the mirrors in the toilets." She sighed.

"Not again. I will notice the janitor later. Sit down."

"Yes, Miss", they said.
