Chapter 25: A Painful Wake-Up

"Lord, Lords Lambert! It's terrible, Professor Ebbon has just brought Guen back, she's still alive!"

"How could that be! These talents hunters are professionals! What incompetents! They couldn't even kill a little girl."

"My lords, she still came back in bad condition. They've already called in a light mage, but the girl remains in a coma."

"Hubby, we must take advantage of her coma. We have delayed the news of Drac's wake up. It must be announced tomorrow. Then you must convince Stepfather-in-law that we must leave without Guen!"

"I see, this way, Drac will be forced to choose one of our children. I will tell him as soon as the news of Drac's wake up comes."

The next day a messenger announced that Drac had wake up.

Lambert spent the next two days trying to convince Tiburce, to no avail. Tiburce was determined that Guen get the chance of being chosen.

On the third day, Lambert waited until Tiburce as finished visiting Guen, who was still in coma.

It was the perfect time to try to convince Tiburce. Guen hasn't shown any signs of improvement in her condition.

"Father, we can't wait any longer. Drac hasn't woken up in a good mood. If we take too long to visit him, he may leave."

"Let's wait a little longer."

"But Father, it has already been several days. She may not wake up for a long time. Even if you don't want to hear it, she may never wake up! We have to go if Drac decides he's tired of waiting and goes for a trip, who knows when he'll be back. He's slept for 100 years already. What if he goes on a trip for another 100 years? Our family will decline. We won't have enough power to fight with the other four great clans!"

"Fine, but you're only leaving early. Once you get there you should wait for Guen to arrive.

Leave tomorrow. It's already too late for today. The sun will be setting soon."

"Don't worry Father, we'll keep Drac waiting. Make sure he doesn't form any blood pacts before Guen arrives.

We'll leave tomorrow at sunrise."

Hmmm, my eyes are heavy. This is no time to relax. Where are the kidnappers?

I'm getting up suddenly. I was ready to hit them back, but all I could see was my room and Arlette looking surprised.

"Lady Guen, you shouldn't get up in a hurry! Lie back, please. I'll fetch Lady Eudeline." And she comes out of the room.

How did I end up here? How long have I been asleep? What happened to my attackers?

My body is light. I thought I'd have trouble moving, but all my wounds are gone.

A few moments later Arlette came back with Eudeline and Ebbon.

"Mom, what happened to me?"

"Don't you remember Guen? You were attacked by Espor mercenaries."

"Yes, but I remember I fainted in the middle of the fight." I think it's best if I avoid talking about the rage I felt, in front of them. I don't want to worry them.

"The young Roland Harcourt saw your distress signal. He said that when he arrived you had defeated all the mercenaries but collapsed from exhaustion. Thanks to him, Ebbon was able to bring you back quickly. As soon as you arrived, we called for a Lights mage.

Your wounds was superficial but you'd lost a lot of blood and your Datian was completely empty."

It's strange when I passed out my enemies were still standing and I had more than half my mana left.

"How long have I been sleeping, mommy?"

"It's been a week. Just now the light mage found it very strange that you didn't wake up after he cured you. No one knew when you were going to wake up. We were very worried. Don't walk alone anymore. Ebbon said he lost sight of you while you were shopping."

"I'm sorry, Mommy. I didn't think talent hunters would come after me."

"How this attack is strange, what you think about it, Ebbon?"

"It's a little early for a talent hunter attack. Normally it takes another month or two for the news to leak. Usually, they don't go after the great five clans. Either Guen's abilities were leaked or someone premeditated an attack. If Guen's abilities had leaked out, they would have sent much more capable people. I think someone leaked the results of your exam and the fact that you got your tattoos out. It would explain their eagerness to attack you and why they underestimated you."

"I see professor, this can only be a Lambert and Hermance move. Only family members and you, Professor, know of my awakening."

Eudeline is suddenly agitated.

"Ha! With the good news of your wake up, I almost forgot. Guen, you must prepare to leave quickly! Just after your attack, the news of Drac's awakening arrived. Two days ago your uncle managed to convince your grandfather that Drac will get impatient if they don't all leave right away. They said they'd wait for you before Drac made his choice but I'm sure he lied. In my opinion, they've all calculated to make sure that you can't be chosen! The news of Drac's awakening came at a time too opportune for them to be a coincidence!"

"Mother it's not so important, I could find myself another partner later."

"Monsters of rank S are not so common! But above all, you underestimate Drac's influence in the Amboise family. Casually everyone Drac chose became the head of the family later on. If Drac chose another person, grandfather could strip you of your title of heiress!"

"What! Then there's no time to lose. I must leave now!"
