Chapter 65: A Meeting With The Hokage

As Mizuki and his team arrived at the tower, they immediatly noticed that there were several different doors which lead to different rooms that they could enter.

After noticing that they all lead to similar looking rooms, the team decided to just enter the one closest to them, which lead to a small hall with the chunin poem.

The poem, which, after quickly skimming, Mizuki simply ignored.

As with the chunin exam in the anime, as the group entered the hall, smoke started to pour off their scroll of heaven and one of their scrolls of earth.

The group chucked the two scrolls to the other side of the room before the smoke screen increased in intensity before vanishing, revealing a chunin which Mizuki did not know.

The chunin then went on to congratulate them on their passing of the exam before explaining the meaning behind the chunin poem, to which, Mizuki nearly fell asleep to.

However, Mizuki's delusions were quickly interupted by the chunin once more.

Chunin: "I understand you have more scrolls? you are to give them up now."

The group nodded in acknowledgment as they pulled out an extra two earth scrolls which they handed to the chunin, which clearly surprised him, as it was incredibly rare for a group to be this fast, let alone to do so and take out an additional two teams.

Chunin: "Thank you, oh, and one more thing!"

Hearing him say this, Mizuki's ears perked up in interest.

Chunin: "You"

The chunin pointed to Mizuki.

Chunin: "You are to report yourself to lord hokage's immediatly. That is all."

And with that, the chunin vanished in a cloud of smoke as quickly as he came.

Idate looked towards Mizuki with a strange look, whereas Anko gave him one of understanding.

Anko: "See you in a few hours"

Mizuki: "Yup"

He gave her a sly smirk as he then vanished as he used the body flicker jutsu in order to rush towards the hokage's office.

. . . . .

Mizuki used his body flicker to quickly get to the hokage's office, as he traveled over all sorts of terrain.

First leaping from branch to branch in the Forest of Feath.

Too then rushing across the empty fields dividing the training ground from the rest of Konoha.

Too then leaping from roof to roof of the buildings as he approached the Hokage's Office.

Finally, fourty five minutes and half of his chakra reserves later, Mizuki made it to the Hokage's Office, where he walked towards the Secretary before giving them all of his information.

Secretary: "Ah yes, Mizuki. Lord Hokage is waiting for you in his office."

Mizuki nodded in acknowledgement and thanked the Secretary before walking towards the door of the Hokage's Office and lightly tapping it.

Hiruzen: "It is unlocked"

The Sandaime's voice could be heard, sounding lacking in vitality and tired. No doubt the impending war was certainly doing no favour's to the man's health.

Hearing the permission, Mizuki opened the door only to see the Hokage sitting at his desk, flanked by two jonin on his right and left hand sides, namely Shikaku Nara and Inoichi Yamanaka.

Since he had last seen the Hokage just shy of a month ago, the man appeared to have aged ten times that amount in that time.

New wrinkles could be seen decorating his skin and his hair had already begun to grey, making him look years older than his actual age.

Hiruzen: "Sit down Mizuki"

Hiruzen gestured to the seat in front of his desk with an amiable smile decorating his face.

However, this smile did little to Disarm Mizuki as he remembered to be cautious, but not suspicious of the Hokage.

Although he believed that he was well intentioned, that does not change the fact that he was, in the best case scenerio, somewhat misguided, and in the worst case scenerio, downright malicious.

With his case and point being Danzo, and how Naruto was treated as a Child.

Even after being in this world for years now, he could still not get a grasp on the man's character.

He was a sort of Dumbledore to Mizuki, with the "Kind Old Man" being one of many layers to him, with what was beneath the mask being an unkown.

MIzuki sat down in the chair before carefully heading the Hokage's Instructions.

Hiruzen: "As you can tell by the Yamanaka here, we will be taking measures to verify your claims."

Hiruzen: "However, as it has been deemed too cruel to dive into the memories of our own shinobi, he will simply be scanning your surface thoughts to determine if you are lying when we are asking questions."

Mizuki nodded in acknowledgmenet, before getting ready to awnser the questions.

Hiruzen: "Question 1: Are you conspiring against Konoha alongside the Assasin"

Mizuki internally sighed at the question, as if it had been worded slightly differently, he would have been exposed as helping the Assasin Escape.

However, by virtue of a techniquality, he had done nothing to harm Konoha, therefore allowing him to pass effortlessly.

Mizuki: "No"

Hiruzen glanced towards Inoichi who nodded at him.

Hiruzen let loose a deep, relieved sigh, clearly happy knowing that the real Mizuki was safe, and that he did not betray Konoha.

Hiruzen: "Alright, now give us a briefing of what occured"

Mizuki nodded in acknowledgement, before detailing the events of the first exam to the Hokage and his two assistants, being sure to manipulate his language where necessary.

Saying things such as saying "they were under a transformation jutsu" to questions surrounding the assailents appearence.

As he was techniquily telling the truth to the them, he was able to complete the interogation with flying colours.

Hiruzen: "Alright, that is all Mizuki. We have gotten all the information we need from you. You are free to go now. As a reward for forcing the assasin to flee, you are free to choose one jutsu from the chunin section of the shinobi library once the exam officialy ends."

Mizuki nodded before thanking the Hokage.

Seeing as he was free to go, he then simply bowed before using the body flicker jutsu to vanish as he returned to the tower in the Forest of Death.

. . . . .

As soon as Mizuki left the office, Hiruzen turned to the Yamanaka to his left.

Hiruzen: "Inoichi, report"

Inoichi: "Sir! Whilst Mizuki was telling the truth about the assailent, he appears to have been evasive about the means used to defeat the spy."

Inoichi: "Evidence gathered by our Anbu reveals that Mizuki is much stronger than he lets on, amd developed a jutsu that they had never seen before"

Hiruzen nodded in understanding, as it was fair for a shiobi to hide a trump card or two, however, he decidied to play things on the safe side.

Hiruzen: "very well then. Appoint Anbu to track his movements for the next month and report any suspicios activity directly to me."

Inoichi and Shikaku: "Yes Lord Hokage."

And, with that, they vanished using the body flicker, leaving the Sandaime in his office alone.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
IWANTMYDINNER IWANTMYDINNER

I big sorry, we had an exam review day yesterday via zoom and i nearly died lol.

Luckily, I didn't do too badly, so I am able to survive to write another day.

There won't be to much Hiruzen Bashing in this fic, as I feel that everybody has seen that sort of thing a million times, and doing it here would just be boring (at least in my opinion).

There wil be some Danzo bashing tho, as even if everybody does that one, its just so saisfying. But that probably won't come for a whilst.

Next chapter will be back to the action with the prelims starting (prelims will be 5 chapters absolute max, more likely 3.)

also, completely unrelated, but i just did my rewatch of Your Lie in April and its just so damn sad. The note still gets me lol.
