Chapter 80: Teammates

After Mizuki walked away and returned to the Infirmary, the Chunin Exams resumed their pace as normal, with the medics quickly rushing in to pick up Idate and whisk him off to the infirmary.

Although this time, there was no Mizuki there to assist them, for obvious reasons.

Some jonin also helped repair the arena, mainly by casting water style jutsu to clear away the blood, and a variety of jutsu to collapse the earth walls created by Mizuki, although the craters previously created were just left be.

At last, after five minutes passed, the final match of the semifinals could begin.

Doto: "May the participants of our second and last, match of the semifinals please approach the arena"

Kakashi: "Give up kido, we both know I am going to win"

Even if Kakashi was mainly known for his strict abiding of the rules, that does not change the fact that him and Obito also had a sort of rivalry going on, with Obito trying to catch up, even if he knew that Kakashi was stronger.

Truth be told, even Kakashi was not as devoted to his original ideology as he claimed.

Rather than doing so as he originally did, because of resentment towards his father, it was now only because he was arrogant and had become complacent, and as a result opposed any change.

Doto: "You both ready?"

Kakashi: "Yes"

Obito: "All good"

Doto: "Ok then, you may now begin!"

At first, Obito wanted to back away and harass Kakashi at a range with some ninjutsu, although was quickly forced to change his plans as his silver haired teammate quickly drew his blade and approached him rapidly.

Realizing that if he backed away, he would just be a sitting duck, Obito was forced to also respond in melee, which he complied to as he drew two of his kunai from his belt before engaging the boy.

As soon as they both made contact with one another, the two boys rolls in the conflict was immediately defined.

With Kakashi delivering a series of quick and precise cuts, not so much as a shred of wasted movement being seen, clearly intending on taking a ruthless offensive approach towards Obito.

In contrast to his opponent, Obito was mainly defensive, as he evade from side to side, avoiding Kakashi's kenjutsu, parrying and counter attacking with his kunai where he saw necessary.

Eventually, Obito saw an opening in Kakashi's guard, which he quickly tried to take advantage of by bringing his kunai down.

However, this was a fakeout, a trap set up by Kakashi, and Obito took the bate.

In a fluid motion, Kakashi's blade came back up and blocked Obito's kunai, disarming him in the process, which then immediately transferred into a cut which aimed for Obito's neck.

Obito was barely able to lean back, evading the blade by mere millimeters.

As he leaned back, he kicked Kakashi in the face, causing the boy to stagger backwards.

Obito: "I'll show you..."

Obito quickly used his newfound space to his advantage, as he leapt back whilst quickly and effortlessly forming the signs for the iconic Uchiha fire style jutsu.

Obito: {Katon: Fireball Jutsu!}

The medium sized orb of flames, with a radius equivalent in size to Obito's height, rapidly rushed forward to the dazed Kakashi.

However, the boy was able to snap out of it, forming a series of hand signs before slamming his hands against the ground, creating a jutsu of his own.

Kakashi:{Doton: Mud Wall!}

In a manner similar to Mizuki prior, a slab of earth emerged from the ground, which then proceeded to defend against the sphere of flames which it was barraged with.

Unlike Mizuki's wall however, this one did not suffer many spider like cracks along it's structure as damages.

Instead, Large parts of the exterior of the wall had fallen off, crumbled, and evaporated. Simply leaving a jagged stone structure where the wall once stood.

Obito used shadow clones to his advantage, as he used the blindspot of the wall to send two shadow clones along either side of the wall in order to flank Kakashi, whilst he leapt over the wall to execute a surprise attack.

However, Obito was immensely surprised to notice that Kakashi was not on the other side of the wall at all, and there were no holes to indicate that he had used any sort of tunneling jutsu.

Obito just landed, when the ground beneath his feet began to crackle in electricity, and a ninjutsu activated, which caused a bear trap made of lighting chakra to spring beneath Obito's feet.

Kakashi: {Raiton: Tiger Scissors}

Although the jutsu did trap him slightly, Obito was able to get out of it fairly quickly, although the attack had done some damage to him.

Obito grimaced slightly, as the lightning had been intense enough to cause some burning along his legs.

Obito looked around, checking to make sure that Kakashi had not used the opportunity to sneak up on him.

Seeing that he had not, Obito quickly came to the conclusion that Kakashi was underground..but how?

There were no new holes in the ground when he arrived.

Suddenly, a thought flashed into Obito's mind as he figured out his opponent's strategy.

Obito: {I see, using the hole that Mizuki created in his match against Idate in order to try to fool me, eh? clever.}

However, Obito had already prepared a counter strategy in case something like this occured in his battle, as both Kakashi and Mizuki were incredibly skilled in using earth style jutsu like that.

Obito leapt in the air in order to avoid unnecessarily putting himself in danger, all the whilst he weaved a series of hand signs.

He landed before immediately cupping his mouth and turning towards the entrance into the earth and fired a stream of flames into it, using the new jutsu he had made over the past month.

Obito: "Katon: Smoke Out!"

Leaving how Obito inherited his Sensei's crappy naming sense aside, Obito developed this jutsu specifically in order to force earth style users out of any underground tunnels by filling them with flames, which both threatened to burn them, but also to suffocate them due to there now being no breathable air left.

Surely enough, Kakashi broke out of the ground in the middle of the arena before rolling away, coughing slightly as the boy looked towards Obito with a newfound seriousness in his gaze.

Seeing this, Obito quickly realized that it was a do or die situation.

This match was going to end here.

One way, or another.

As such, Obito immediately realized he needed to use the Trump card which he planned to save for the finals.

Obito: "God damnit, I was planning on only revealing this in the finals."

Saying those words, Obito quickly prepared to utilize the jutsu which he had spent the past month learning and perfecting.

Thanks to his being the student of Minato, who was already incredibly influential in the village, and Shisui, who was a rising star in the clan, Obito was able to receive training from some of the Uchiha Clan Elders, who were veterans of Great Shinobi Wars past.

Upon seeing his strength, they were most pleased with his progress, doubly so that he was able to do so relatively independently, with only some help from peers from his generation.

As such, they decided to teach him the pinnacle of Uchiha Fire Style Jutsu.

Obito quickly weaved a series of hand signs, one that was unfamiliar to the genin, who had never seen it before, but caused several of the jonin to widen their eyes in shock.

Hiruzen: "Interesting...to think that the Uchiha Clan can now produce two members that can perform the jutsu that HE is known for using... Shisui and Obito, eh? The power of the Uchiha is definitely on the rise"

Obito than turned to face Kakashi before simply blowing a stream of tightly knit flame chakra towards him, which quickly enlarged until it became a small sea of flames that engulfed the entire floor of the arena.

Obito: {Katon: Great Fire Annihilation}[1]

Seeing the Sea of Flames begin to engulf the arena, a look which had never appeared on Kakashi's face when fighting one of his peers showed itself.

A look of shock.

Kakashi had an actual chance of losing.

Realizing that he would have to end this quickly, Kakashi was just barely able to leap over the sea of flames and drew his chakra saber, which had a faint white glow along the blade.

Obito quickly cut the jutsu, upon realizing that Kakashi was not being affected by it, and it had consumed vast amounts of his chakra.

Obito than rushed up the wall and drew his kunai before leaping off of it and meeting Kakashi mid air.

Eventually, the taijutsu bout between the two continued, now on the roof as both boys focused their chakra to their feet, as the ground below was still aflame from Obito's previous technique.

Eventually, the fatigue of casting such a powerful jutsu had run its course on Obito, causing him to be vulnerable and his guard to weaken.

Using this opportunity, Kakashi was able to quickly disarm Obito before chopping him in the back of the neck, causing him to fall as he lost consciousness.

Surprisingly enough though, Kakashi caught the boy as he was about to fall, an action which the previous Kakashi never would have never done, as it was not required in any rulebook.

Doto: "Winner: Kakashi Hatake!"

Kakashi: "Maybe the rules don't contain everything a shinobi needs..."

With these thoughts, Kakashi's match with Obito ended, as did the semifinals of the chunin exams.

. . . . .

[1] The Jutsu that Obito spent a month learning is that one fire style jutsu that Madara uses when he roasts the entire 4th division after being revived. Obviously, his isn't as powerful, although Obito's jutsu is still powerful none the less.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
IWANTMYDINNER IWANTMYDINNER

Aight, heres our normal chapter for the day.

We are approaching the end of this arc, after which we will have some edditing, and then..the third great shinobi war!

As far as Kakashi is concerned, I wanted to give him an arc about how he struggles with how rules affect him as a person, rather than just one speach in the middle of a fight and then stuff is done (Even if it is one hell of a speach).

For now, he is just willing to explore things outside of the rules, although would stll never break them.

I hope to create a gradual transition between this and the Kakashi we see in the series, where he doesn't really give a shit about rules and is always late.
