Chapter 3: Freshers' Night

"Who cares? If I don't attend the party?" I said, lazily lying on my bed, my eyes fixed to the phone screen. "Plus, I have other things to do."

"And what is that, may I ask?" Jerry, my roommate asked.

"I have to think about it. That's why I don't want to go." I said, keeping my phone flat on my stomach.

He gave a terrifying look and then calmly replied, "Alright, then go to a lounge, have some coffee, a couple of beers and then come back."

"But why do you want me out?" I asked and then replied to my own question, "Teresa's coming."

He nodded with an evil smile on his face.

"C'mon, I won't disturb you guys. Have fun. I'll be here, quietly watching my series." I said and continued staring at the phone screen.

Later, I was found standing, all by myself, in a place with loud music, yelling crowds and disco lights. *Damn, I'm at the freshers' party.*

Jerry actually made me leave my cozy planet.

"Shirong!!" Someone yelled my name, tapping my back. It was Thomson.

"I thought you won't be coming." He choked me with his muscular biceps. It was his way of hugging.

"Yeah, I gave my roommate and his girlfriend some of their private times." I said.

"That's nice of you. C'mon, have a drink with me." He held my hand, and we both walked towards the juice stall.

"Two Apple Mojito, please." Thomson said, showing his two fingers to the juice guy.

"Where's Jonathan?" I asked.

"Well…" he stopped for a while and then said, "He found himself a cute little companion. They might be somewhere around here."

"Woah, he's fast." I exclaimed.

"But I must tell you, that girl is a pure devil." Thomson said.

"Why do you say that?" I said, sipping my mojito.

"Cute girls are always evil. Plus she, herself approached Jonathan. No cute girls approach a guy just like that." Thomson yelled.

"Jonathan got the looks." I said, and noticed Jonathan smiling and chatting with a curly haired girl.

"Hey, I saw her at the day of admission. She and her friends were eyeing Jonathan from the very first day." I said to Thomson.

"Was she? Wow, lucky guy."

Yes, he is lucky. Getting a girl in such a short time is miraculous. Thomson drank his mojito and ordered another one. While, Jonathan and his companion walked towards us.

"Guys, meet Becky." He introduced her to us.

Thomson gave his cheerful grin to her and introduced himself to her, "Thomson Bosco."

She smiled and shook hands, "Becky Daynes."

Then, she looked at me and smiled.

"Shirong." I gave a friendly smile.

"I think I saw you at the day of admission. You were with your friends?" I investigated.

"Oh yes! I dumped them. They were insisting me to wait for another year just because one of them didn't get through the admission." She chuckled, softly.

"Evil, as I said." Thomson whispered to me.

"Anyways, let's wait till they declare me as Mr. McDale." Thomson said.

"What? You participated?" I asked, shockingly.

"Of course, you missed the whole performance." He stopped and then said, "I freaking ramp walked for the first time. The judges liked my biceps. Hope I'll get the Mr. McDale award."

"Of course, you will." Jonathan clapped his shoulder.

"Welcome once again to McDale's Freshers' Night." A guy yelled at the microphone and the audience screamed like crazy.

"So, tonight's the night where we pick our Mr. and Ms. McDale. All the contestants performed amazingly but unfortunately there'll be only two winners who'll receive our prestigious Mr and Ms McDale award." The guy announced in a very homosexual manner.

"Gay." Thomson informed.

"So, the judges chose our Ms. McDale for the year, please welcome with a great round of applause, Ms. McDale, Ashley Dumor." He screamed her name as if he's calling her into the ring for a fight.

A tall, beautiful lady walked up on the stage where her award was waiting for her.

"I knew Ashley's going to get it. Her personality was mind-blowing." Thomson informed again.

I was not at all interested, Jonathan and Becky were busy cuddling each other and doing shitty romantic stuff.

"Now, here I call our handsome Mr. McDale, please give a big round of applause for our Mr. McDale, Tyler Parker."

Everyone screamed and clapped, except us. Thomson looked at us, and grinned again.

"Forget it. Mr. McDale isn't prestigious at all." He said and drank another glass of his mojito.

Becky held his hand, as if she was transferring all her positive vibes. "He might be Mr. McDale for the whole college, just for a year. But for us, you'll always be our Mr. McDale." She said.

"Mr. Grin face too." I added.

"Thomson, everything happens for a reason. Maybe, there's something bigger than this for you to achieve." Becky said, still holding his hand.

At some point, I felt maybe Becky was right. Maybe everything happens for a cause. Maybe we all met and became friends for a cause. Fate is an amazing thing.

Our night ended inside a lounge over a couple of beers. Jonathan left with Becky, as she was getting late for her hostel, Thomson and I were still chugging beers after beers.

"What do you think?" Thomson asked, "What might be the cause of I, not getting the Mr. McDale award?"

I looked at him with my half-closed eyes and said, "You're an athlete bud, you might win the McDale Championship, who knows?"

"Yeah, you're right. I'll get girls, attention, respect, everything." He completed his last bottle.

"Anyways, I think we should leave. It's getting late." I said and stood up.

"Yeah, of course, of course. Let's hit the roads." He said, stretching wide his arms.
