I am a cat that fur is black,
I was simply born like that.
If not for a witch who lied,
I could show it off as it is my joy and pride.
Soft as silk and dark as ink,
I never roll in anything that would make it stink.
I envy the others who receive all of the loving pats and cuddles,
While I am forced to go with out cream and must drink from puddles.
I have no bad luck of which people speak,
My color only helps me to stealth-fully sneak.
Whenever a kind human passes me by,
I cheerfully greet them and rub along their thigh.
Because of stigma and superstitions,
I have to endure this pitiful disposition.
Only due to the fisherman's wife and their daughter, Shelly,
I can live another day with a full belly.
I never mean to do any harm,
I only want love, a home that's warm, and maybe a ball of yarn.
Please do not hurt me or run away in dread,
I'm only asking for a stroke on my head.
I hide in the shadows with my fur of black,
I'm just scared of my surroundings and don't mean to attack.
If only you will take me home in the basket on your arm,
I will loyally guard your home and when someone comes raise an alarm.
Oh what luck, she picked me up!
Into the carriage she climbs, then makes the door shut.
A big house awaits as we pass through the gates,
Inside she introduces me to my new room mates.
Twelve black cats sit upon the stairs.
Some big, some small, but who cares.
With sniffs and nuzzles they welcome me to the home,
Nevermore will the streets shall I roam.
On a pillow I start to fall asleep by the warm fire,
This new owner for all of my life shall I admire.
