Chapter 2: A special kind of Alice
A woman greeted us as we got off the bus. Two men unloaded our luggage. We all just stood there looking around in amazement. The town that was built around the academy was beautiful even from a distance. All the buildings were different and unique. The shops here must be filled with both beautiful and strange things.
"Girls and boys please line up in order as you hear your name." The woman started to call out names. Mine was eighth out of twenty. Half of the group was girls half was boys.
After we were lined up the woman started to talk. "Here at Wonderlin we have classes among the students. You will be able to tell these classes apart by their uniforms. Each classification was named after important characters from our history. For instance there are the highest ranking freshmen who you will be in class with who are named after the first royal leader. They are the red queens and kings." As if on Que. two students wearing red uniforms stepped out of the building behind her. "Another class would be the peace keepers named after the guardian of the portal, the White rabbits." Two students stepped out of a portal that just appeared. They were wearing white military like uniforms. The girl had on a rabbit ear head band and a knee length skirt. The boy had on a compleat military uniform both had a clock patch on the sleeve.
"We keep the order so do not break the rules." The boy said.
"Yeah or we'd have to hurt you." The girl giggled.
"They keep the peace here as well as all of you safe. Anyway the next classification is the,"
"Don't worry ma'am we are already here." A laugh rang out. Walking out of the shadows were a boy and girl dressed in what looked like patchwork uniforms. The girls skirt looked more like a tutu and the boys jacket was covered in patches and they both had on top hats though the girls was way smaller then his.
"Patched up Hatters reporting for duty." She giggled. "We are the crazy ones that have a lot of fun."
"Yes, then the next classification is the cats. The Cheshire cats are a class all their own. They are in this classification because of their teleporting abilities and the tricks they like to cause."
"Like showing up out of no where." A girl said popping out from behind the woman. "Hello, Helen."
"We also are the best at the disappearing spells." A boy's voice drifted around us. The girl three down from me screamed when a boy appeared behind her.
"That's it all of you in line, now." The woman, Helen, said sternly. The Cheshire cats and Patched up Hatter jumped into their spots but still smiled and snickered. "The last classification is the one you all will be in. The Alice classification. Though it is a girls name it is full of both girls and boys and you statistics will very according to your abilities. Now to enter the town you will need to put on your uniforms to pass through the portal."
"Why can't we just drive there? It seems like it would be easier." A boy asked.
"Right at the town border is a 49 foot wide mote that is 387 feet deep. You do not want the bus to drop strait down do you? You could all get hurt."
"More like die." A girl said.
"Now two upper-class Alice's will pass out your uniforms. When you get them go into the building behind me and get changed." Two girls walked out of the building and started to hand out the uniforms. I noticed on of the Alice's dresses were green and she had a set of headphones on around her neck. The others uniform was pink and she had on a little crown and her dress was covered in diamond shaped patterns. "Girls to the right boys to the left and don't even try to go to the other side."
The green dress Alice handed me my blue uniform. I thanked her and went to get changed. When I got in there the girls had either started to pull on their uniforms or were holding them out and looking at them. They looked like plain long sleeve blue dresses with no patterns or patches. One of the girls pulled on hers and it turned a shade of red and a weird little hat popped out of thin air and floated just above her hair. It was amazing looking. Another girl quickly pulled on the dress. Her's turned black and white an apron warped around her waist, a pair of white glove materialized, her shoes turned to black one inch heels, and a black bow popped out of the back of the dress.
I couldn't wait any longer. With a deep breath I changed into mine and watched my self in the mirror. The plain blue dress transformed. The skirt puffed out, the sleeves shortened, the neckline lowered, an small apron formed around the waist, and a large bow bloomed out the back. Cuffs warped around my wrists and clipped closed, a choker made of blue and white lace appeared, light floated around before becoming a bow, my running shoes turned into blue one inch heel, and white stockings seemed to grow up my legs. A gold chain looped around my neck and a pendant slid down it and hung there like it was never anywhere else.
"I never thought I would ever see a girl like you again." I looked at the woman who had greeted us when we first got here. She stared at the pendent as if surprised.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"You're a special kind of Alice."
