Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Life in Konoha (2)
After some explanations from Guy, Max finally fought of the feeling of wanting to run away. He still looked weirdly at Guy as he saw that his intensity was not going down at any moment.
"Anyway, Kakashi asked me to give you some training in the ninja arts. He gave me a rundown of what happened to you, so I know that you fight with swords. I believe to know of someone that could help you out in that regards, but that person will get here in the afternoon." Guy said as he looked around and saw that no one was at the training ground.
"So, what am I supposed to learn with you?" Max asked since it looked like Guy didn't even brought some weapons for him. He was open to train, but his sword was useless, and he didn't have the time to go look for a place that he could make ones.
Guy noticed that Max was looking at what he had on him and realized what Max was looking for. Guy took out a scroll from his bag and open it on the ground.
Max saw a lot of words on the scrolls that he couldn't place any meaning to, but he recognized the pattern. In the center of the scroll was the kanji of sword which was surrounded by one of the same patterns.
"One of my students gave this to me for this day. She is the one that will help you with the next part of your training." Guy said as he placed his hand on top of the sword kanji.
*Puff*
Smoke started to come out of the place that Guy had just put his hand on and he jumped back. As the smoke cleared, Max saw something that shocked him.
"These will be the weapons that you'll use until you make new ones. The katana and sword can be found in any weapon shop, so don't expect good quality out of them." Guy continued as he took the sword and katana and gave them to Max.
"What just happened!?" Max came out of his shock and asked.
"Fuinjutsu? Ah! I forget that you don't know about the ninja arts like the others. This art permit us to 'seal' any object in scrolls or places that we choose." Guy told Max a very basic explanation of what fuinjutsu is.
'Something like that could come in handy in a lot of situations.' Max thought as he planned to learn it later.
"Anyway, now that you have weapons at hand we'll go ahead start with the basics." Guy said as he began explaining about hand signs and chakra.
Time passed as Guy and Max exchange information and did some physical training. Guy knew that it takes months and even years to learn ninja arts, so he didn't limit his training time to just a lecture. He was also interested in seen the full strength of Max as not even Kakashi had seen it.
Hours started to pass as both spared and talked. Luckily, Max could talk as he spared which Guy was very happy with since he like to teach by doing more than by telling.
As noon got close, Guy decided to take a break.
"Your way of fighting is nothing but amazing, still there is a great deal that you could improve if you mix some jutsu on your attacks. I know of someone that could help you with that, but she is with Anbu at the moment so getting time from her is problematic for now." Guy said as he remembered someone. "Still, your swordplay is quick enough to give problems to most chunin in the village, if they don't use jutsu on you."
"But you don't use jutsu as much either." Max couldn't help but to say. He noticed that Guy knew what he was talking about but didn't practice it. Even if he could do the same jutsu that Kakashi did when he spared with him, less the clone technique, Guy only used his limbs as he fought him.
"As you get to know the other kids your age, you'll see a difference in talent. For some, making hand signs and controlling their chakra comes as second nature. These are the people that some may call genius." Guy say as he was reminiscing of his past. "As you can see, my chakra reserves aren't as big as other jounin and my chakra control is nothing much.
Still, I'm considered one of the most highly sought out targets in the bingo book of Konoha. I don't have the genius of Kakashi and Kurenai or the background of Azuma, but still any enemy of Konoha would take me as serious or even more of a threat.
This is because I believe in something that can transcend genius and background, and that is pure effort!"
"Effort?" Max asked as he was confused.
"Yes, effort. It can be one of the simplest things in our world, but it is something that drives my soul to surpass those that have the talent that I don't have.
I won't lie to you. At the start, I couldn't see any progress been made compared to the other ninja around me. Day after day, I kept on training without seen any rewards. Still, I believed in the path that I had chosen so I kept at it. Months passed and I kept working. Years passed and I tried even harder!
Till this day, I had not stopped working on improving myself. Even after I had reached to the place that the other ninjas with talent got, I pushed forward!
And now, I am the noble blue beast of the leaf, Might Guy!" Guy finished with his signature shining smile.
This time, Max didn't look away. He looked at the eyes of Guy with intensity.
He still remember those 4 years of hell that he passed in the Land of Waves. His only goal was to get stronger and not be the burden that he was let to believe to be.
As the same as Guy, he put the effort in training. He couldn't imagine how hard did Guy trained, but he believed to be something like the training he had experienced before.
'Same level of training. It could be said that I was ahead of him because I have more talent and chakra capacity than him.
Still, he stands now one of the top ninjas of Konoha. If I had the same number of years to train like he did, I wouldn't have been even close to what he is now.'
Max thanked Haku and Naruto to have appeared in his life in his mind. He could now see what having people that one cares about in their life could do.
Guy looked at how serious Max was and remembered something that Kakashi had say to him.
'Naruto told me some of the things that Haku, Max and he talked about. Max is someone that needs strength but don't know how to get it. After meeting Naruto and Haku, he now knows about the strength to protect. Hopefully, he can find more ways in Konoha to become stronger.' Kakashi said to Guy when he was talking about training Max.
'Hopefully you are right Kakashi. In this world, there are too many ninjas that do stupid things just to get stronger. Max is young enough to be led in a righteous path, but at the same time he is easily influenced.' Guy thought.
As Guy was thinking, Max had finished his train of thought and smiled. The sudden change in Max took Guy out of his own train of thought.
"The noble Blue Beast of the leaf? That sound nice. Maybe I could get known enough in the village to be called 'the Blade Devil of the leaf' in the future." Max said as his eyes glowed for some reason.
"Why would you want to be known as such a fool creature?" Guy was taken back by the aspirations of Max.
"What do you mean fool creature? Devil are one of the strongest beings of the underworld. Their intelligence as charm isn't comparable to any other species. Beast on the other hand have one-track-minds and have low intelligence." Max fired back.
"Hey, beasts are noble and powerful. You can't say that they have one-track-minds!" Guy also fired back.
"You didn't even refute the low intelligence part." Max sigh as he looked at Guy with some pity.
The two of them continued arguing and sparing for a while more.
Just when the middle of the day was getting near, another person appeared in the training grounds.
"Good afternoon Guy-sensei. I arrived a little early since I knew that you were going to be here." A kid said as she greeted Guy.
Guy and Max separated and stopped their spar. Max remembered that Guy told him that he was getting a sparing partner that will lead him in the second part of his training.
As Max looked at the new arrival, she was also looking at him.
She had some traditional garments on that he hadn't seen on any other villager since he got here, but he didn't give it to much thought since people used strange cloths here. Her two buns in her hair was something that he found strangely appropriated for her.
"Guy-sensei, who is this?" She asked Guy, since she didn't recognized Max.
"This is Max. Max, she is one of my student Tenten. The two weapons that I got for you were from her." Guy introduced both.
"Hi, thanks for the sword and katana. I felt naked without weapons on me, so I really appreciate them." Max reached out his hand towards Tenten as he said.
Tenten shock his hand and smile. "It was no problem sempai, I usually don't use weapons to force me to get close to my opponent, so those weapons were getting dust in my armory."
"He he he." Max smiled wryly as she mention 'sempai'. Tenten looked not older than him, so he was not someone that she should call sempai.
Guy noticed her blunder and decided to clarify. "Tenten, Max looks like that, but he is younger than you. Max should be the one calling you sempai."
"Wha?" Tenten couldn't comprehend what she had heard.
