Chapter 1: 1
Once upon a time, high in the mountain lived a dragon . He led a joyful life full of flights, fire-breathing, and contemplation about Eternity. He enjoyed his privacy and never gave a thought about finding a companion. He was self-sufficient.
One night there was a terrible storm. The howling wind begged Nature to give the world some slack, but she was merciless. The rumbles of thunder threatened to tear the earth apart. The flashes of lightning shredded the ominous sky. The endless downpour was about to do away with all the living creatures when all of a sudden, it was over. The silence which followed was ill-boding.
The dragon was fast asleep in his den. He curled up comfortably and let rings of smoke out of his nostrils. In the morning, he stretched his mighty wings and flew out. Great was his surprise when he saw a lamentable forest around his cave. He let out a double whistle and set off in search of food.
He found plenty of fish left on the banks. Having satisfied his hunger, he made a final circle before heading home. Someone floating on a wooden plank caught his eye. It was his favourite delicacy: a sweet young maiden. The girl's eyes were open. They were beautiful amber eyes.
