Chapter 15: Learning that a society isn’t a society without gangs of some sort and some sort of religion.
After they leave, I turn to Kanilo and intend to give my thanks as I didn't have the time to take them three down.
"Thanks for the help, I didn't wish to hurt them but they wouldn't be persuaded by me alone"
"It is not an issue, after seeing what you did to barreus previous vent shift, I knew that they didn't have a chance. Even if all three of them ganged up on you" he replied with a hint of fear in his voice
"Hmmmm barreus is his name, I'll remember that. However i must return home, I do not wish to make my sister worry" I say to him before I start to leave
"Hey, will you be watching the arena fights next vent shift?" He says to me before I get far.
"Yes I am, and if or when you get first place, you can challenge me. If that is your intention then I shall wait and await your victory" I say to him before heading off.
I nearly make my way home until I feel a mana mass quickly rush at me, I burst up and spin around to see what tried to get me. I look back and I see a megalodon with a horn and is about my size but with definitely more muscle, especially near it's tail.
It turned to face me in confusion as I just perfectly dodged his attack. If someone like this is our age, then Kanilo is going to have problems at the arena.
"Hey there kid, how are ya?" A voice I've never heard before says to my left.
I kinda saw him and his three friends, but my focus is on this one in front of me. I won't be taking any chances, by the look of his tail, he is definitely able to go way faster than what he already did. From what I can tell, he just gave a mild boost earlier. Such power can easily devastate me if I'm not careful.
"So you're definitely smarter and stronger than how you present yourself. Give him an opportunity and he will end your existence with ease. My name is tanauris and his name is morthas. And you are our prey" he said with cockiness in his voice near the end.
"Alright, this will be fun. Looks like you're first then" I say as I burst towards tanauris with the speed and power that many wouldn't expect from one of my size.
I go at him and bite his snout before he has the chance to react. I push back, swivel my body, and pushing my sword out at the same time to parry the horned missile that's coming at me. He hits my sword and I pushed back since I used my water magic and pushed at him right as our horns clashed. I dash in and leave a huge gash on his side, down to his dorsal fun where I actually cut off a good chunk of it to hopefully weaken his speed.
I then quickly move away as to not get chomped from behind by tanauris, my focus has been split on both him and morthas as the others have yet to process what just happened since it all happened in mere moments. Next they know, tanauris has a chomp on his snout, which is bleeding profusely since I chomped on many veins that are connected there, morthas has a huge gash on his side and dorsal fin, and I'm a good distance away from them, unharmed with a horn that seemed to just randomly appear on my head.
"HEY MORTHAS, WHY ARENT YOU KILLING HIM ALREADY?!" Tanauris bellows out in rage.
He looks at him and is completely stunned. This is the first in a long time that he saw morthas injured like this. Morthas is not too far away from him, looking at him and lowering his head in shame. He then looks at me with absolute fury in his eyes. I now know that this just became a life or death battle, and I'm at a huge disadvantage since now it's five to one.
I stare at all of them, watching for them to come after me. We wait for a moment and I'm ready to move first, then they all just calmed down. Morthas who was just looking like he could rip me to shreds just looked at me in contempt. Tanauris is looking at me in absolute fear. All the others are looking at me in disbelief and fear at the same time. What is going on?
(I'm tired of this, I won't take any risks with your life as all five of them were ready to kill you without any mercy. Keep in mind that I'm not restricted in who I speak with using my telekinesis. I just only talk to you as i am to guide you, and you are quite entertaining since you don't classify yourself immediately. You don't even see yourself as a megalodon at times. I quite enjoy your company as you are the second being that I can actually bear with, even if you do seem more like a child, you aren't all antagonistic or gun ho on being a hero. I just essentially told them to back off, if they don't then I will make a personal appearance. And all those in this colony know about me and my influence, so they will take my words to heart)
Ok so I can just take my leave then. Thanks for everything you've done for me. when I can, I will do my best to repay you in full.
(We'll see about that when you are able to enter my den. After that, I would like to explore the world. You've already gained experiences that I have yet to understand or grasp. So having you assist me in my exploration will be a great help. At that point after we're done exploring, then you'd have repaid me in full)
Ok I will do my best when that time comes.
I swim away towards my house again before hearing Tanauris speak from their position in a loud voice, "if you seriously have the blessing of the great leviathan, then you mustn't hide it as a blessing like that will guarantee leadership of the colony!"
Oh no, not this.....I'm sorry elder, but I don't wish to use your name for recognition or prestige. That's not how I like to gain my recognition for anything.
(What seems to be the issue with using my name? You're not with the humans anymore as yes such flaunting would cause trouble with them. But not here, if you say and show that you have my blessing, you will gain great things and have many freedoms that not even the leader has)
Damn I wasn't thinking about it like that. My understanding is that I would seem like a self entitled prick if I used your name to gain respect and prestige.
(That statement is correct for the human societies, but not here. See it as a small human settlement with a priest. Now see this colony as a settlement without one but has a god, if you take the part of the priest, it would be beneficial to you and those around you. You will gain many privileges and much recognition as long as you can be the medium for me and them)
That sounds interesting, well I'll do that but for now I will just return home.
I say that and head home. I can sense food in the next room. Is that the storage area or the dining room? Well I guess I'll check. I head to the room and my sister and both of my parents are there at a table like stone that has four protrusions with a sort of plate looking piece that resides on the protrusions. On the middle stone is food that looks like it came from a whale.
I head to the only empty one since everyone is there. Father looks at me and says, "looks like you made it for food"
"Yes I apologize for the wait, I got held up by a few other pups" I say with sincerity
"Not an issue son, now we shall eat" mother said then I sense her use her magic, making the food that's on the middle stone go on the plates in front of us.
I wait for them to start eating as I have no idea if they made any food eating etiquette since my memory on it is very blurry. They start eating and I see that there really isn't any, so I just start eating with them. I don't eat too ravenously as I still want to enjoy my food, but I eat it without really any regard as to how I look while eating it.
We all finish our food and mother is the first to speak. She says for us two to head to our bedding chambers as we don't wish to be tired when watching the arena battles next vent shift. So we obliged and went to our bedding chambers. My sister went to sleep as she was busy testing her new wings today and I went to cultivate since chances are, I'll be fighting the top contender next vent shift.
I go into my bedding chambers and lay on my bed. I quickly just start cultivating as the more time I utilize in it, the more powerful I get. I won't be taking any risks as the arena is meant for those who are the strongest in the colony to fight it out.
This is a multi vent shift event that will determine who will be raised by the leader to be the next leader. And now I am the complete champion since I devastated the expected winner with ease. But if I'm brutally honest with myself, I won that fight because he underestimated me. These contenders won't, especially if it's Kanilo who becomes top. He will not make the same mistake twice.
I do the usual cultivation and I feel myself slowly getting stronger and bigger. Except after a while of doing it, I feel something change, like instead of my mana getting bigger, it starts shrinking at a rapid pace. This scares me as at this rate, it seems as though I might actually lose my mana.
I start panicking as I desperately try to grab my mana. However, no matter how much I attempt to grab it, my mana keeps shrinking. It won't stop at all until it is tiny, but then it just stops. I look at it and what I have been feeling, I find out, is that my mana was actually condensing, not shrinking.
I look at it closely and see that all my mana that I have been gathering has completely condensed into a cube of mana that is fluctuating in different directions but all of it keeps the shape of a cube as it slowly grabs the mana I gather and pulls it into the corners of it like a funnel.
It all looks majestic as I can still feel all the mana inside of me but when I look at it, all my mana is just condensed into this cube and not flowing throughout my body anymore. Before this, all my mana was free and uncontrolled. It was always pushing out the entirety of my potential without any regard but such a thing is a blessing and a curse at the same time.
How it is now, it isn't free anymore nor is it always showing my full potential to everyone who can see it. If someone were to look at me with mana or magic sense, they wouldn't see anything but a small cube in me. This will allow me to purposely make those that wish to harm me lower their guards as they won't see much in me. Which in turn will allow me to catch them off guard.
This is perfect, but now I feel embarrassed that I was desperately trying to stop this earlier.
