Chapter 26: Friends?
Shadow had sat in the middle towards the window. It seemed like the teacher wasn't here at the moment. Although students had already filed into the room while being a bit noisy. Since shadow never really left the palace grounds and when he did he was at the library where usually only nobles were. He has never truly seen the difference in nobles and peasants.
For what he could see it seemed like they couldn't afford practical enchanted clothing for protection. Some of them that passed by him didn't smell that great either.
"So the only difference is money." Nobles no longer had that much power unless you were a part of the guardian nobles. Essentially they were just watchdogs who protected royals. All they got from it was more money and a lot more leniency for whatever they did.
Some nobles in the corner were throwing remarks at some peasants in the corner. Shadow wasn't fazed by it actually thanking the gods that they didn't seem to even recognize him.
"Hey,.....can I sit right here."
"Yea, sure."
The kid next to him was about 5'4 with brown hair, a sharp nose,and an average face. He didn't seem to be a noble though.
'Mhm, he's right next to you will you do nothing?'
"Umm, so you know anything about the teacher here." The kid looked at shadow with questioning eyes.
"Not really."
"Oh I figured since you were a noble you might have some connections."
Oh so he's trying to use me but he just thinks I'm a regular noble. At least he's not afraid to say anything like that. I can respect that more than trying to keep it secret.
"Nope, But what's your name."
"My father has named me Cain but I usually go by my middle name Sok. Listen I know it's rather abrupt but do you mine if I check out the campus with you. I have a hard time making friends."
Once again in the pit of his stomach he felt like something was wrong. Although he didn't want to be alone with that other girl either. So why not just have him come along and talk to her.
"Yea sure."
"Alright all of you sit down and be quiet. How is it that some of you are doing exactly what our lady has told you not to do. Do you not believe in the power of this academy to make sure even your parents can't get jobs. If you do I suggest sitting down in your seats and not messing with the students who could turn out to be generals or even Guild master's. If you don't please be my guest to continue. Some of the nobles looked at each before returning to their seat.
"Alright great, now their is not much to say. They just wanted to introduce you to the teachers who you will spend the most time with. With about 700+ students here about one fifth of you will die. I know you know that but we needed to reiterate that there will be casualties. This is not a regular school where you will just learn. We will also adjust your classes after you fill out the survey on your desk." As she said this they appeared out of nowhere. "You will fill those out so we will know where to put you. In certain magic classes you'll need or fighting styles. You'll also have basics like, enchantment, study of artifacts, or like this class the study of creatures. Which will be very important if you travel or want to be an adventure. Oh and at the end of every month here there will be practical fights or if you wish to challenge someone the arenas are always open and attended by staff. For those who have private tutors there is a build into used for training with them on the outside of campus." By the way my name is Mrs.Caz. Do not call me anything else or you will get hurt, simple as that. Although I do not like nobles I will be all but fair to those in my class.
"Isn't kinda wrong to just say who you dislike or like Mrs.Caz?"
Shadow had turned to the side. Staring at Sok, wondering why he would say something when he wasn't a noble.
"Mhm, interesting. Are you a broke noble or something?"
"No mam. My father is a farmer. I just believe in being fair and not having any prejudice against anyone."
"How noble of you but most nobles you'll meet will not have that same thought against a peasant who come from farming. That's speaking as someone who came from the exact same thing. Sadly girls if you are a peasant you have the chance of being raped by these stuck of nobles. And even though we will find and punish the one who did it, it won't change what happened. I've been here long enough to know and have even went through it when I was here. So with that being said I'm honest about what I dislike and like and I know for a fact I hate most nobles."
Shadow couldn't say she was wrong. Even though most nobles didn't have power anymore didn't make them more humble. Instead it almost made them do more to the peasants to prove they were better. He had been through a lot of hurt and insults because of he was even though he was technically in a higher position than them.
"Anyway finish your surveys then you may leave after dropping it off at my desk. Make sure to take a look around. Especially if you know you might be in that class or sector of the school after being given classes."
The class finished pretty quick because it wasn't that big. Most of it was aimed at what they wanted to be and what they could do and wanted to learn. He did have to say for Sok to finish so he waited outside of the classroom. Sok came out a few minutes after.
"So you ready to take a look around?"
"Actually not just yet I'm waiting for another person."
It had take her about 15 more minutes to finish up but she had brought another girl along.
"Hey shadow this taraja." Her blonde and deep blue eyes made her almost impossible to turn away from. Well probably for most. At the time shadow could tell that she was beautiful but he wasn't that interested but Sok told a different story by the face he made and the small comment he accidentally whispered out.
"This is Sok, I met him...."
"Hello I'm single and I can give you the world if you give me a chance." He walked straight towards him till he stopped in front of Lily who kept a straight face.
"I'm sorry I rather not." She was now looking at shadow for some type of help.
"Uh that's Lily, Sok she is the daughter of General Sono."
Sok had jumped away looking terrified.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you I was just taken back from your beauty.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Shadow had broken out laughing his ass off. Even the Taraja girl had broken down starting to laugh.
"I'm sorry I just couldn't take it but let's walk and talk now that we have time to waste.
