Chapter 43: New Daughter

"Thank you for telling us Annabelle." John said quietly. "If you want some time to yourself feel free to go anywhere on the property just stay within the posts."

"Thank you."

"Lewis will call you for lunch, John has to go settle the paperwork and I have to talk to the clan council. But, if you ever want to talk, I'm here." Shelly said, still in tears.

Annabelle smiled softly at the woman before getting up and walking out the door.

After a few minutes Shelly looked at her husband. "Is there anyway?"

Shaking his head slowly John sighed in defeat. "I wish there were Shelly, but I can't. The amount of energy required to do that would kill me. I might be able to look for her brothers, but I wouldn't be able to send her anywhere, and I don't want to get her hopes up."

"But you could search?"

"I can try. I can't promise you I'll be successful love."

"All I ask is that you try John." Shelly stood up and kissed her husband on the cheek before picking up her purse and wiping her eyes. "Well we'd better get busy. Good luck with Angel honey."

John laughed. "Good luck to you too love. Remember to call Jeb if you need help." He pulled her in for a kiss before following her to the front and grabbing his briefcase.

Calling over his shoulder. "Lewis, your mother and I are leaving to deal with paperwork regarding Annabelle, please take care of the house and make sure Annabelle stays safe!"

"Sure dad!" Lewis called back from his room, not looking up from his homework.

It took John two hour by car to arrive at Angel's office. He was a little frustrated considering the fact that if he had been able to fly, without worrying about humans seeing him, he'd have been able to get there much sooner.

Knocking on the door he called out "Angel, it's John. Can I come in?"

"Come in John." An unpleasant voice that sounded like sandpaper came from inside.

Entering he came into view of the beautiful woman in charge of helping his kind get human papers. "Thanks for seeing me on such short notice Angel."

"No problem John, you brought the pictures?" Her voice grated as she spoke. As always it seemed painful.

"Yes, if you can make it seem like she's been our child since the beginning that would be best. Since with adoptions the government gets a bit too involved for my liking."

"Of course. It's going to cost extra though."

"No problem." He watched the woman thoughtfully. It was interesting how a cursed human was okay with helping the supernatural community. Granted she was being given protection for her services. However, for what she really wanted. There was no cure.

"Have you spoken to the elders about trying to lift this curse?"

"Yes, they said the same thing as last time. Unless you want to die immediately, there is no way reverse the curse."

"Hmm, sometimes I wonder what they would do if I said yes." The vixen laughed wretchedly. "If it weren't for that d*mned man none of this would've happened."

John kept a straight face. Barely.

"Here." She said as she thrust the documents at him. "I just tweaked them a bit, now get out. Make sure to deposit the whole amount before the end of today."

"Of course, Angel." He replied leaving as quickly as he could without seeming rude. Last time he hadn't left in time and the woman had thrown a vase at him.

************************** **************************

Shelly had gotten to the council in less than a quarter of the time it took John to get to Angel. However, she still hadn't been able to speak to the council about their new daughter.

The elders of the clan were still talking about how their needed to be more laws concerning human and supernatural interactions, because of a young dragon that had accidentally revealed himself to humans he considered friends.

Shelly was trying not to roll her eyes at the old dragons before her. They were trying to pass clan laws that would prohibit any immature dragons from being around humans.

"If we pass this law, we will have to make a school that was equivalent to the human schools and make it so that only supernaturals could attend." Shelly personally didn't have time to homeschool, which was what the elders were propositioning.

"Why supernaturals, it could just be for us dragons. Why invite trouble by letting other species attend." An elder she didn't know very well spoke up.

"Because, if we invite other species then we'll have a larger teaching base to pull from. A school might be a good idea, we can slip in classes on how to interact with humans and each other. That way some of the supernaturals that can't transform will have a school in which they can be social."

"School isn't a place to make friends Mrs. Caperd, the only reason we send our children is because they need to learn how to deal with humans. Building a school specifically for supernaturals will defeat that purpose." Another nameless face. Shelly was beginning to think she needed to call Jeb, if only so he could tell her who was who.

"Which would be why we teach them that in classes and possibly have field trips with someone supervising their interactions with humans during the school trips. It would be easier if we just let them continue going to human schools. Pulling them all out because one child had an accident is overreacting in my opinion."

"We wouldn't pull them all out. Just those that have issues maintaining their transformations." The old man who was the start of this debate spoke up. Realizing that what he wanted wasn't going to happen, so it would be better if he narrowed his goal.

Shelly struggled to keep a straight face. Hoping that her husband would be done with Angel soon, because she didn't want to bother Jeb.
