Chapter 9: love hiccup

*Knock* *knock*

"Sage, it's Lance, could I come in?"

Sage awoke to Lance gently tapping on her door. Soft sunlight shone through the round skylight above her. She sat up and looked around.

"Sure, you can come in, I'm up." She said with a yawn.

"Hey, Ty told me this was your room. I just wanted to come and check on you after last night."

Sage pulled her knees up to her chin under the bed clothes.

"I'm okay." She said wrapping her arms around her legs and resting her chin on her knees.

"Come on Sage. I have known you for years, I know you're not okay."

"Fine." she swung her legs off the side of the bed and stood up.

"I feel like shit. I left my family, granite we weren't very close anyways but I may never see them again and.... and I can't help thinking... that I made the wrong choice." Her body began to shack and tears began to fall to her feet.

Lance stepped forward and wrapped her in a hug. She buried her face in his shoulder.

"I'm sorry, this is all my fault." He hugged her tightly.

"I know what you've left behind. I know you only came because of me. But I promise I will make sure you get back to them no matter what it takes, okay. You are my best friend and I'm so happy you are here." He pulled her away from him.

He looked down at her, his hands resting on her shoulders. She gazed up at him, her eyes wet. A tear slid down her cheek, Lance gently brushed it away. They stood there for a long moment, then Lance slowly lowered his head towards her's. His heart was pounding in his chest. He closed his eyes, pulling her closer to him, he could feel her chest raising up and down. They were close, so very close.

Then a knock on the door. Sage quickly jumped away.

"Who is it?" she called.

"It's me, Justin, I just wanted to let you know breakfast is ready in the kitchen." Ty said through the door.

"Oh thanks, I'll be there soon."

She turned and looked at Lance. He was wearing a strange smile on his face.

"I guess I should go and let you get ready." He said, walking past her towards the door.

"Lance, I mean Sean..." She gazed at him knowing something had changed between them. He looked at her.

"Look." He said "I have loved you a long time, a very long time and I would love for us to be more than just friends but..."

"But, maybe it's better this way." Sage said finishing his sentence. Her face fell.

Lance walked over to her and gently kissed her on the cheek.

"I don't want things to be weird between us. We have been friends for so long and I don't want to mess that up." He said gently.

"Be sides, I think Ty has a crush on you."

Sage smirked.

"Oh really?" she said smiling.

"It's pretty obvious. Anyways, you should get dressed. We have a shopping spree to go on." He said turning to leave. She grabbed his hand and pulled him around to face her then quickly kissed him full on the mouth. She then turned away.

"I just wanted to know what that felt like."

Lance blushed.

"I'll see you in the kitchen."
