Chapter 5: Eating and Eating More

I slowed my descent by flapping my wings as I watched the humans below me pass by.

Landing quietly behind the one I chose, I grabbed at their chest and a wisp of blue light came out.

'I can only feed on lust and pride, and they both taste wonderful.

It had been a week since the voice in my head left me, and ever since then I fed on the souls of humans who carried my particular sin.

'Lust and pride, who knew that these were my sins?' Laughing softly to myself, I flapped my wings and shot into the skies.

...

A police car rolled up and came to a stop as two men leapt out and ran to a person who had collapsed in the middle of walking.

"This is the seventeenth case of this exact pattern, yet we can't identify if anything was used, and all having nothing in common!" A voice shouted over the ruckus of noise.

The voices receded as an ambulance pulled up and two men got out with a stretcher in tow.

"Get the legs, I got the arms." One said to the other while grabbing the arms.

...

"Police chief, this is a mystery case, peole dying everywhere and no one knows why. Find out why!"

A man got off the phone in an office and frowned, his brown eyes reading the reports.

'Thirteen females and four males, each perfectly fine one minute and dead the next, it's like feels something's missing though.'

Veres stood up and walked to the window and looked down, just in time to see a police car pull into the police station.

"Sir, we have no common points that point at any of the victims, it's like it's happening at random!" A man burst into the office and said.

"Thank you Fisher, now go talk to the two guys, they just came back from the case we're working on."

"Yes chief." She walked to his seat and sat down and looked at himself in the monitor.

Sand colored hair, brown eyes that seemed to radiate seriousness and straight jawline, in fact he could have been a model.

'I'm to getting to old for this job, I need to retire after this case is solved, but I still don't understand...' His thoughts trailed off as someone knocked on his door.

"Come in."

"Sir, we have a man that said he knows what's going on, but he said he'd only talk to you!" A woman in a police uniform opened the door and told the chief.

"Okay, it's the first break we've gotten in this case, tell him I'll meet him there in ten."

He grabbed his black coat that hung over his chair and half ran out the office towards the elevator.

"We can finally learn what's going on!" He frowned as a thought of someone pranking him flitted by then disappeared as he hoped it was a lead, a tangible one as this case had been giving him headaches for a week.
