Chapter 29: Are you trying to flirt with me?
As much as Amanda tried to doubt what she had just heard, she knew she couldn't.
She could not believe Tom was treating her that way. She was standing right there but his entire focus was on Lisa.
It was even worse because he had bluntly told her she was not his girlfriend.
"It's my job Mr Hwang. I have to protect you always." Lisa reminded him in her usual aloof tone.
"And that includes tasting every food I eat?" He asked in a stern tone.
'Why is he always making my job difficult?' Lisa complained within her.
"I always do that. But it's always been done covertly. Now, I have no other choice but to do this. Your safety is my priority." When she tried to walk past him, he blocked her way again.
Her last statement 'Your safety is my priority' would have sounded romantic to him if there were faced with another situation where she wasn't trying to explain to him that her job involves her risking her life for him at any cost.
He had to do.something about it. Even if it meant to get a new bodyguard whose sole duty would be to taste his food. But not Lisa.
"Let's get this straight. I will never allow you do that. You expect me to let you put your life on the line for me? Are you out of your mind?"
Amanda looked at the both of them with a fierce, burning gaze. Even her breathing became ragged as she tried to control her temper.
"Are you both trying to insinuate that I posioned the food?" She asked with a voice filled with anger.
Tom was a bit startled to hear her voice because it reminded him that she was still standing there.
"No one said that. We're just trying to settle something here." Tom explained before moving closer to the dining table and pulled out two chairs with his 'uninjured' hand.
"You both should sit. I'll go get us something to drink"
Lisa looked at him like he was nuts. Firstly, he had refused to allow her taste the food. Secondly, he was asking her to sit. Thirdly, he wanted to bring them drinks. With one hand?
When he turned to walk inside the kitchen, Amanda stopped him to ask in confusion.
"Both of us?" As she asked, she looked at Lisa who was still standing there with her usual expressionless face.
"Yea" Tom answered with a nod. "It should be enough for the three of us right?" He asked her, referring to the food.
Amanda scoffed out this time.
"I have never met anyone with a worse EQ as you" She said to Tom through gritted teeth before fetching for her little bag.
"I've lost my appetite. I'll leave now"
She had thought Tom was going to stop her but he didn't.
With one last glare at the both of them, she stomped out of his apartment.
Tom watched her back with an unreadable expression. When she disappeared out of sight, he smirked before turning to look at Lisa who was staring at him.
"I am sure you are suspicious of her. But try not to be so open about it." He advised.
"You..think she may be up to something?" Lisa asked in surprise. Maybe he wasn't so stupid.
He looked at her with a blank face before shaking his head. "I never said that. Is she up to something?"
'Maybe he is stupid after all' She concluded within herself.
When he noticed she was not going to answer his question, he asked another one.
"Do you think we should eat this?" He asked while looking at the delicious-looking food.
"I am not hungry. And I do not think you should eat this."
"Why? Because you're embarrassed it may taste better than the one you prepared last night?" He asked with a teasing smile.
Lisa's gaze darkened. But she said nothing.
"You know I was thinking.. you always say you're not hungry and I began to wonder whether you have some kind of medical problem. But who would have thought you were busy steal—"
When he saw the dark glare she was giving to him, he paused and let the words trail off before he suddenly began to laugh.
"The thing is..." He moved closer to stand in front of her.
"It was delicious. The chocolate." He said with a naughty smile plastered on his face.
"Mr Hwang?" She called with a straight face.
"What is it?"
"Are you trying to flirt with me?" She asked straightforwardly.
He was taken aback by the sudden question. Although he was doing just that, he had not expected her to ask him so bluntly.
"Of course." In a low voice, he added "I am."
Lisa was surprised by his answer. Or maybe she really wasn't. How could she forget so soon the kind of person Thomas Hwang was?
"Why?"
"Why what?" He asked with raised brow.
"Don't do that with me." She said with a frown.
"Don't do what with you?" He asked back.
Lisa closed her eyes and tried to contain her temper.
"I'll do my best to do my job. You should also do your part by making my job easy for me."
"Why? Are you afraid you might fall in love with me?" He asked with a wide grin plastered on his face.
"I'd rather choose to fall inside a well and drown."
"Nah!" He wagged a finger in front of her.
"Let's leave the drowning for your boyfriend"
When he saw her scoff in anger, he began to laugh. Finally, he was riling up different emotions from her.
He stopped laughing and looked at her intently. In a serious voice, he said
"Stop acting all cocky Germany. If I put my mind into making you fall in love with me, you won't be able to from escape it."
Lisa thought that was really funny. She? Fall in love with him? Was he crazy?
They both looked at the other with a challenging look before they heard a 'Ding Dong' which alerted them that someone was outside.
Tom turned to look at the door in confusion.
He was not expecting anyone again. Or did Amanda change her mind and came back?
"I'll get the door" Lisa moved past him to check who was outside through the digital peephole viewer, and turned back to inform him.
"Its Mr Hwang Zhendan, your father."
"What? My father?" Tom asked in surprise before going closer to open the door by himself.
